Boris Johnson is clearing the decks for a leadership challenge.

I guess that means that the Brexit we get all depends on what George, Michael and Boris decide over lunch and how good Operation Yellowhammer is.

US President Donald Trump's Ireland visit cancelled

An Irish government spokesman said the trip had been "postponed for scheduling reasons".

The White House had announced the visit earlier in September.

Mr Trump was expected to visit his golf course in Doonbeg, County Clare, and Dublin on the weekend of 10-11 November.

Scheduling?
But the dates were already confirmed...

When's the US mid term elections?

Tues 6th November.

Hmmm....

oh goody - a troll.

Elements isn't it you that started the leavers pledge not to prep? I believe we have another pledgee biting ...

1tisILeClerc · 11/09/2018 18:15

@Mother
If the 'worst' happens he will be fine but you may not be able to travel to see him. Anything 'better' than worst will just be more hassle and expense but doable.
IIRC you are in Europe and he is in the UK? In that case he may have disruptions but the whole cohort will be in the same boat. It is obviously far from ideal but for him not a catastrophe.

TheElementsSong · 11/09/2018 18:15

Yes, it was indeed me, pretzels - overall I had a very low success rate, surprisingly Grin

They're not, though, LeClerc. Most of them live out of halls, are adults and thus no-one's responsibility, and - by definition - isolated from community networks of support.

It's bloody worrying.

BigChocFrenzy · 11/09/2018 18:23

Yes, the visitor rejoicing in our "freedom" after Brexit Hmm

Freedom from having our essential meds ?

10degreestostarboard · 11/09/2018 18:26

Freedom from the gilded cage that is the eu

prettybird · 11/09/2018 18:28

There's your answer Hmm Who cares? Sad Selfish Dogma wins Angry

BigChocFrenzy · 11/09/2018 18:30

cat I'm so sorry delays have worsened your health issues Thanks

Instead of bloody Trident & bloody pointless wars, an extra 100 bn could have made a real difference to NHS patient outcomes;
we could have reduced treatment delays to those in say France or Germany

1tisILeClerc · 11/09/2018 18:31

Apart from those in need of specific meds and treatment, in the words from Star Trek, it's life, but not as we know it.
The EU don't want a catastrophe and there are emergency measures that can be taken. Of course we shouldn't have to be taking them at all but you know, some people 'won' and everyone has to know about it.
We obviously need water every day, but for healthy people, you can go without food for about 3 days without harm, and with a waistline like mine, make that a week! Being totally practical, having food available that is high nutrient but relatively bland so that if it really is that desperate it won't make you ill. (That means no Vindaloos!)

I said to a certain somebody before that I don't think they voted for this out come and if they did then they lacked humanity....a certain someone then got frothy.

elements a no stockpile pledge? Iconic!

BigChocFrenzy · 11/09/2018 18:33

If the gilded cage is having essential meds available
it seems some Leavers' definition of freedom is the freedom to be without meds Hmm

Maybe they could just enjoy that freedom themselves and let the rest of us keep our meds and our jobs

BigChocFrenzy · 11/09/2018 18:36

For some Brexiters,

Immanuel Kant had it right:
"I had therefore to remove knowledge, in order to make room for belief"

for others,

"I had therefore to remove empathy & knowledge, in order to make room for belief"

TheElementsSong · 11/09/2018 18:37

Gosh, if only somebody had taken the trouble years ago to explain to Remainers that, instead of fearing that their loved ones might expire in agony, they should rejoice at them being "freed" from the EU by death, I'm sure everybody would have voted for Brexit.

prettybird · 11/09/2018 18:39

Peregrina - I don't actually do much work in it Blush I usually run out of steam by July. The borders are overcrowded full of perennials which look after themselves although I really should be lifting and dividing them Blush

I've been better this year with the raised beds - and am planning on being really good next year Wink - plus trying to sort some space in the borders to grow more veg in them decoratively (like the purple podded peas and I'll maybe give globe artichokes a go).

But as dh says, he does most of the gardening as he looks after the grass Grin (not just "our" side but our neighbour's half too Wink). He'd really pleased with how green and lush it is looking - and we didn't actually water it that much. The massive pear tree probably helped as it meant it wasn't in full sun for most of the day.

@thecat
I appreciate it is very worrying but I feel as parents that we might 'overworry'. Having been involved with Scouts, anyone over the age of about 13 can 'go feral' and survive and besides they will be with friends. Parents can be quite shocked at how their precious darlings behave when not in their line of sight. It is easy to underestimate what even youngsters aged 10 can achieve.

thecatfromjapan · 11/09/2018 18:41

Thanks, guys. 💐

And a hug for Hazardswan.

I am in awe of Element's no-prepping pledge.

That has actually made me laugh.

There's a man in a village I visit who proudly displayed a UKIP banner during the Referendum, and campaigned locally for Leave.

Methinks he will come to see that as having painted a target on his house and rather regret it. He's not important enough to qualify for security.

My heart doesn't bleed for him.

Big choc

Ah yes - trident - that thing that stops nasty people (like Russia) blackmailing us

Left wing AND a remainer. Truly, life can be cruel to some
