.......would you vote the same as you did originally?

OP posts:
Peachydream · 17/07/2018 15:13

DP & I both voted remain and would do again.

I know of 2 leavers who have changed their minds, I personally don't know of any remain voters who have reconsidered.

What has David Davis actually done in position prior to his resignation, he didn't seem to have any handle on the negotiations- or achieve anything.

I am still so angry that this ever went to a referendum with no idea what leave would ever look like.

Rosstac · 17/07/2018 15:23

Helmetbymidnight Not so much a plan, but why offer something to the public that is unattainable, why would you as the government set your self up to fail in that way?

Imhertwopennyprince · 17/07/2018 15:28

I voted and I would stick to the way I voted.
I know lots of people who voted remain who would do the same second time round and I also know lots of people who voted leave who would vote leave again!

Vitalogy · 17/07/2018 15:29

Yes out again.

MotherofPearl · 17/07/2018 15:32

Those who would still vote Leave - why? I have yet to read a single compelling argument in favour of Leave. Have you not been following the news these last 2 years? The whole thing is a nightmare.

I remain a remainer.

fussychica · 17/07/2018 15:33

Yes, Remain. I can't understand anyone wanting to do otherwise, especially when all the lies unravelled and it's clear they have no clue how to get leaving to work.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 17/07/2018 15:35

MotherofPearl PESCO and the increasing right wing/ nazi-esque governments forming across Europe! vile.

user1483390742 · 17/07/2018 15:37

I would vote the same- remain.
David Cameron is keeping a very low profile throughout this whole shambles. I wonder if he had his time again, if he wouldn't leave it to the general public to make such an enormous decision?

Parker231 · 17/07/2018 15:38

I’m not entitled to vote in the UK but there can’t be another vote whether to leave the EU. We’ve had the vote and have to do the best with what we’ve been given.

nearlyfiftyjeez · 17/07/2018 15:39

We voted the first time we don’t need to vote again.

Referendums are not best out of three.
I don’t know any leavers that would vote to remain. I know lots of remainers that would vote to leave having seen the world didn’t collapse the first time 🥂

MissLingoss · 17/07/2018 15:39

Those who would still vote Leave - why? I have yet to read a single compelling argument in favour of Leave.

And I have yet to read a single compelling argument that would convince me to change my vote. The reasons I voted Leave still exist.

Yes, Remain. I can't understand anyone wanting to do otherwise,

Haven't you read any of the many threads on MN where Leave voters explained in detail why they voted as they did?

Moussemoose · 17/07/2018 15:40

Yes the right is gaining traction in some parts of Easter Europe a strong EU will act as a mechanism to mitigate these influences. The U.K. leaving weakens the EU. So by leaving we make the very situation you are concerned about worse....

Rosstac · 17/07/2018 15:41

MotherofPearl How can we judge what leaving will be like untill we leave, all these fear stories have yet come to fruit, When and if we leave the business will have to adapt and change and the clever business person will always want to trade, if we are going to leave we need to close the door and no looking back only forward,

MotherofPearl · 17/07/2018 15:43

I agree that the rise of the extreme right-wing in parts of Europe is scary OnlyFools, but would have thought we'd have a greater chance of exerting influence against such regimes from within the EU, rather than as outsiders.

Moussemoose · 17/07/2018 15:43

Referendums are not the best of three

Why not? Where is it written that that is the case? The referendum was advisory. Parliament can hold as many referenda as it wants.

The one thing Brexit has made apparent is the stunning ignorance many people have in relation to our Constitution- or lack there of.

MarshaBradyo · 17/07/2018 15:43

Yes remain

Topseyt · 17/07/2018 15:43

I voted Remain and would do so again.

Brexit is every bit as much of a shit show as I thought it would be and more.

It is patently obvious that there was no plan at all for a Leave win at the 2016 referendum. The only plan, if you can call it that, was for things to carry on as before on the back of a Remain win, however narrow.

I'm not even convinced that Boris Johnson himself was truly on the Leave side. I think he has always been just an opportunist. I think that his plan was for a narrow Remain win, which he would use as his ammunition to mount a leadership challenge, hoping to oust Cameron and become Prime Minister. Only it didn't quite work out like that.

Will people be so stupid as to fall for any of his bullshit again? Sadly, some might.

MotherofPearl · 17/07/2018 15:46

@Rosstac and @MissLingoss

I am persuaded by the pretty unanimous arguments from financial and business experts (I still believe in experts) that leaving will be an economic disaster.

Rosstac · 17/07/2018 15:53

MotherofPearl Unfortunately all these experts have agendas, on the EU pay role, etc, ie the CBI get a EU grant, etc, it’s hard to know who to believe, it’s got to the stage that I always read about the person before reading the report, it’s a shame not to know who to believe, not helped by the then chancellor GO, with his numerous and blatant lies

Rumboogie · 17/07/2018 15:56

I would vote Leave again, with a vengeance. I also know several previous Remain voters who are so fed up with the EU's negociating stance that they would also now vote Leave, even (?especially) if it meant crashing out - withholding the £39 billion.

However, realistically, the choice could not now be between leave and remain, as article 50 has been activated, and although we have not yet actually left, this is irrevocable.

The choice would be between leave and rejoin.

The EU has made it clear, as I understand it, that if we want to backtrack we could not return to the same terms of our previous membership. This would make membership much worse for us, tying us into the Euro and unification, among other things, and losing our rebate.

IMO we need to leave, not half leave. The EU is toxic and will not reform. It essentially exists for the benefit of Germany and is run by unelected despots - as we have seen reinforced in the Brexit negotiations.

SilverySurfer · 17/07/2018 15:59

It's irrelevant since there, quite rightly, won't be a second referendum.

Frith1975 · 17/07/2018 16:00

Yes. It would take something awful/momentous to make me want to leave something so beneficial. And that’s without the chaos and shenanigans we seem to have generated over leaving!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 17/07/2018 16:00

No I dont think we could exert influence on such racist regimes when quotas set out by the EU themselves are being ignored.

The fact that the UK has taken in so many Eastern European Economic migrants and when we raise concerns we are called racists, yet Poland, Hungary etc can refuse to allow refugees fleeing war/persecution in because they are black or brown is EU hypocrisy at its best.

Rosstac · 17/07/2018 16:10

Frith1975 In what way beneficial, that cannot be achieved with out the self serving money grabbing EU

Topseyt · 17/07/2018 16:11

There is nothing in the text of Article 50 that states it is irrevocable.

If we decided we wanted to revoke it then we might need the agreement of all 27 other states, but if that were given then surely it could be done?
