.......would you vote the same as you did originally?

OP posts:

I apologise too I am sorry that the Leave vote is jeopardising everyone’s future

MimpiDreams · 24/07/2018 12:14

Well, apparently it matters because the evil EU builds roads in non-EU countries. Like Spain

They do actually build roads in Africa though, through the European Development Fund, in order to reduce poverty and hunger. The bastards.

How do we know that the dogmatic EU would allow us back in?

Because they have said over and over again that we can still stay in if we want.

Talkstotrees · 24/07/2018 12:27

They do actually build roads in Africa though, through the European Development Fund, in order to reduce poverty and hunger.

That should read we do, as we are still an EU member state with some pretty wonderful MEPs working for the common good (plus a fair few total time wasting UKIP arseholes).

Buteo · 24/07/2018 12:28

The UK funds 15% of the EDF, yet 40% of it goes to Commonwealth countries.

Peregrina · 24/07/2018 12:45

The UK funds 15% of the EDF, yet 40% of it goes to Commonwealth countries.

So if we crash out, yet more potential losers, unless other EU nations decided to speak up for Commonwealth countries.

frumpety · 24/07/2018 19:07

Lets be honest Peregrina it won't be the UK government speaking up for them will it ? I think the Commonwealth countries have a fair idea of where they stand following the Windrush scandal, they are useful when it suits us Sad

TheElementsSong · 24/07/2018 21:43

Well, now that I know we're aiming for the dizzy heights of "Adequate food" maybe I'll change my mind and vote Leave With No Deal next time. I mean, who on earth could resist?

Talkstotrees · 25/07/2018 09:00

Just in case there is a red tomorrow.

Well I beg to differ re cleaner beaches. You can see the pollution where sewage is just dumped at sea. I don’t know how anyone even paddles in the South-East let alone swims.

LoveInTokyo · 25/07/2018 10:02

If you think they are dirty now, you should have seen what they were like before.

But of course, if you are right about the sewage, perhaps you should make a complaint to the EU. Except that they probably don’t care all that much about the standard of British beaches now that we are leaving.

Trumps latest tweet on: "The European Union is coming to Washington tomorrow to negotiate a deal on Trade. I have an idea for them. Both the U.S. and the E.U. drop all Tariffs, Barriers and Subsidies! That would finally be called Free Market and Fair Trade! Hope they do it, we are ready - but they won’t!"

Trump thinks he's got us over a barrel of chlorinated chickens and Jack Daniels.

PerkingFaintly · 25/07/2018 10:23

Confused Sez the man who's just announced a whole load of new tariffs and subsidies.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 25/07/2018 10:31

Trump is a dick. He doesn't care about America let alone the rest of the world.

We may dislike the EU for lots of reasons but there are checks and balances inherent in countries having to achieve a consensus before making big decisions.

PineappleSunrise · 25/07/2018 11:52

Did anyone else see the article in today's FT about Trump's tariffs? Apparently they're having a knock-on effect on American farmers due to retaliatory tariffs on soybeans and pork (which loads of America economists warned him about before he did it, but hey ho), so Trump has just authorised an enormous one-off (pre autumn elections) $12 billion subsidy to them to help them.

At the same time, the US is one of the countries that's filed a protest against the agricultural aspects UK's Brexit plan at the WTO, which means we'll have months of haggling to get a WTO-approved method of trading outside the EU.

Naturally, Trump is banging on about how terribly protectionist the EU's CAP is while pumping yet more subsidies in the the US's already well subsidised agricultural sector.

Boy, the upcoming US/UK trade deal is going to be quite something. I suspect "taking back control" won't be a phrase we'll be hearing much after next March. Hmm

SoloD · 25/07/2018 11:56

The problem is everyone is already in big groups and we will be the outsider trying to get in. So we will now a rule taker but unlike in the EU we won't have a say.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 25/07/2018 12:08

No say and precious few allies.

StrangeLookingParasite · 25/07/2018 14:52

I apologise too I am sorry that the Leave vote is jeopardising everyone’s future

I think that might be the first time I have ever seen a leaver apologise for what they've done to us.

Helmetbymidnight · 25/07/2018 15:49

I’ve seen 3/4 leave voters on mn say they fucked up.

Nothing compared to the many many mn who were so delighted in the first few months ‘we won, get over it’. I wonder where they’ve all gone. There were loads of them.

bellinisurge · 25/07/2018 15:54

@Helmetbymidnight - I've not noticed this. I've noticed a sullen silence but I can't say that means acknowledging this idiocy. Yes, I said it - idiocy.

LucheroTena · 25/07/2018 16:03

Remain for me and I’d vote remain now.
What a shower of shite this is. And they can’t turn back because of political embarrassment. May had a good opportunity at the start to say well it was close and therefore very divided and opt for a Norway style exit (plus end austerity, emergency brake immigration, used existing powers to deport those without jobs) but instead chose to embrace the UKIP nutjobs.

user1457017537 · 25/07/2018 16:47

There is far more sewage pumped into the sea now. There used to be sewage treatment plants everywhere, they seem to have been abolished. Sorry to keep harking in but the seas around the UK were ctrystal clear when I was growing up.

frumpety · 25/07/2018 19:06

Not sure which parts of the coastline you visited growing up User but there were plenty of bits that weren't and still aren't crystal clear.
