More magical thinking. "Speaking positively" can't alter the actual negative consequences of Brexit. It's like believing that if you just keep saying that black is white, it is or will be. Talk about living in a post-truth world.

MissLingoss · 17/07/2018 20:42

so you voted for an action with no plan or ability to create one...well done

I had a vote. I used it.

And no, I won't be stockpiling.

Redact · 17/07/2018 20:45

I voted remain and would do so again in a heartbeat

pfttt · 17/07/2018 20:46

I think we should split the country according to how people voted. If they voted Leave they get a new blue passport but have to pay for visas to holiday in Europe. If they run a business they must pay all tariffs. They can choose jobs - fruit picking or being healthcare assistants in the NHS, to make up for all the EU workers they don't want to let in. They should have their personal rights including access to the NHS cut as part of the bonfire of red tape that the far right under Rees-Mogg will implement.

The rest of us poor sods who voted Remain will be forced to live in Britain exactly as it has been for the last 40 years, with our humiliating European passports helping us to embarrassingly avoid queues and not pay any fees and our businesspeople will face the indignity of avoiding tariffs and being able to trade easily and cheaply in a market of 500 million people. We will be made to suffer by being forced to shop in shops that sell a range of foods from across Europe and not just live off good British boiled swede and turnip each winter, like our happy Leave brethren.

That would resolve it, no?

shirleyschmidt · 17/07/2018 20:48

what are you all talking about?! Do they exist on air alone in all the non-EU countries or something?? I hereby pledge not to stockpile! This is Brexit not the Walking Dead!

Can't understand the mentality of those of you who can just declare 'it's a disaster and the whole world knows it' as though it's fact. What do you all know that 17m people here don't? Plenty of countries aren't in the EU and exist very well. Many countries in the EU are not doing at all well. To suggest that it's a binary choice between remaining or the apocalypse is ridiculous.

On that note I'd better bow out as it's descended into weirdness!

TheElementsSong · 17/07/2018 20:49

That would resolve it, no?

I like it!

AdoraBell · 17/07/2018 20:51

Yes.

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 17/07/2018 20:52

Those who were remain but would now vote leave because of the way the EU are negotiating - I have no idea what was expected? Why would they make it easy or give us what 'we' want.

The way I saw it when I voted and the way I see it now is that Brexit essentially limits Britain's power and if we want to keep 'perks' then there will likely be conditions and some of those conditions might mean accepting decisions made by the EU without any of our input.

Remain then. Remain now.

I have been thinking this too.

StrangeLookingParasite · 17/07/2018 20:56

I would remind you that how ever unsatisfactory you feel the percentage, more voters were convinced by my side of the argument than yours, and if you want another roll of the dice the onus is on you to make the case for the EU.

They were supposedly 'convinced' by a pack of lies that is now subject to legal proceedings. There have already been fines.

shirleyschmidt · 17/07/2018 20:58

@smilethoyourheartisbreaking yes I did!!!! About 10 mins ago, have a scroll! But I'll say again - am definitely not stockpiling!!

BakedBeans47 · 17/07/2018 21:01

So long as you also hold onto all the shithole English areas that also voted leave.

Yes, I would still vote Leave. I am old enough to remember the time before the EEC/EU and I think it's mostly those who have never known being a self-sufficient, independent nation who are the ones terrified of leaving EU.

And of course there are those who are shouting down the referendum result who have their own political agenda. Be in no doubt that those who have a stage (actors, comedians, local councillors, TV personalities, interviewers, journalists, etc) are the ones pushing mightily to sink Brexit. I watched HIGNFY for years, but cannot watch it anymore because it's just a Remainers fest.

I have no political agenda myself, except to say that I instinctively feel it is far better to be untied to a group of other nations and to plow our own furrow in all respects.

What are Remainers exactly saying ........ that we can NEVER cancel our membership ever? That's frightening and preposterous. It's like saying you can never leave your current employer.

@smilethoyourheartisbreaking no I don't need to, nobody does.

user1457017537 · 17/07/2018 21:11

The EU needs us more than we need them. We give them billions

user1457017537 · 17/07/2018 21:13

We import nearly all our manufactured goods from China not the EU. Check the labels on what you are buying

I voted remain and would now vote leave

I still think all the original leave voters are criminally stupid.

But the fact is that most of the adverse stuff has already happened. Sterling has already tanked. Most businesses have already prepared for a hard Brexit and are building up their EU hubs at the expense of the U.K. EU migration is massively down. UK plc is poorer.

There isn’t any way to go now other than hard Brexit. Anyone thinking otherwise is dreaming TBH. Business has already voted with its feet.

BrittW · 17/07/2018 21:18

And on MN we have long-serving bots - check out the Westministenders thread. That was originally started many months ago by Leave supporters but hijacked by Remainers. The latter were welcome to participate, but they didn't want that, they wanted to take over the thread and they have.

I recognise many of the names, and I can bet your bottom dollar that nearly half of the posters are originally from non-EU nations via Europe. That is their reason for being Remainers.
