Westmistenders: 'No Deal please; We're British'

It has to be said that its almost as if Tory Rebels are too polite to challenge the PM.

But the stakes are getting higher and higher as it becomes more and more apparent that it is a clear choice between a chaotic no deal situation or a BINO and there is no alternative to that.

If the Tory Rebels don't show their grit and are not prepared to be as strong in their determination as the Brexiteers - out of almost politeness and obligation - then No Deal awaits.

As things move forward, the threat to May once again re-emerges too. If May doesn't do what the ERG say they are minded and will try to oust her. They have nothing to lose by it.

The Tory knives are hidden behind backs one again. Waiting.

Which way will the Withdrawal Bill go? Which way will the Trade Bill later this month go?

We are running out of time and options: for either a deal or no deal.

Time has already run out for many ordinary people - they just might not know that yet, but the decision has already be made about their future.

Hanahsaunt - you could really blow your colleague's mind and inform her that Advanced Highers are worth more in UCAS points, grade for grade than A Levels Shock ("Go stick that in your pipe and smoke it" Wink)

An A at AH is worth the same as an A* and a B at AH is the same as an A at A Level Grin

And both Scottish and English students with good AHs or A Levels can, for certain subjects, go straight into 2nd year at Uni. (Not an option for the subject that ds is off up Aberdeen in September to do - International Relations - as everyone is starting it from scratch). In practice, very few do as it means that they miss out on forming friendship groups and developing the new way of learning that university requires.

Daleks, biscuit barrels, dustbins, cabinets. They're all the same.

54321go · 14/06/2018 22:22

@prettybird
Obviously as a well brought up Scot he will advance well at Uni.
For an English student studying International Relations the course is very short. You just have learn to shout loudly (in English if course).
@Lonely. No, biscuit barrels are the odd one out, they contain biscuits.
Not as good as wine unfortunately.

RedToothBrush · 14/06/2018 22:29

Daleks were the most feared and dangerous creature in the universe. They were filled with nothing but hated.

But until the reboot, if you stuck some stairs in front of them, they were utterly fucked and completely foiled. Supreme intelligence but it took them 42 years of being on television to some up with the solution of 'flying' to combat the problem.

Yep, very Brexit.

Radio 4 wanted to put Oakeshott on to Balance Cadwalladr. Why aren't the BBC having Oakeshott on without Cadwalladr in that case? Distract, distract, distract. What a shower who have the airwaves. Honesty, intellectualism, decency and integrity. All edged out.

Buteo · 14/06/2018 22:40

the tone always seems so very angry.

And defensive.

Cailleach1 · 14/06/2018 22:42

On Question Time from the 10th of May, Esther McVey started going on about project fear. After Alejandro Agag, on the same panel, revealed he had a plan in place for his business to be able to leave the UK in 24 hours. Reality is not what it used to be.

Peregrina · 14/06/2018 22:46

....yet delight in every story / rumour that the German govt is in trouble.

Still fighting the last War.

AndSheSteppedOnTheBall · 14/06/2018 23:07

Isabel Oakeshott is a fucking idiot.

Cherrypi · 14/06/2018 23:09

Ooh mumsnetter on QT? “Nest of vipers”

AndSheSteppedOnTheBall · 14/06/2018 23:16

Dominic Grieve is too reasonable for this world.

Cailleach1 · 14/06/2018 23:19

oakeshott shouldn't be allowed anywhere without being asked if she helped hide Russian connections. She has the gall to say that people don't trust Dominic Grieve. Talk about a charred kettle taking about a teapot.

lonelyplanetmum · 14/06/2018 23:20

Have we heard how this meeting went at all? So that's the air and banking sectors pushing for some clarity today.

"The bosses of some of Europe’s biggest banks will ask ...Theresa May on Thursday to give them a reason to stay in the City of London after Brexit now that hopes are fading for a generous EU trade deal.

May will dine with bank and insurance chiefs who are members of the European Financial Services Round Table and discussions could shed light on what the government wants from Europe for financial services.

This group includes banks and insurers from around Europe, such as Deutsche Bank ,Societe Generale, Barclays, and Aviva.

Barclays’ Chairman John McFarlane is hosting the dinner ..where executives will push May and finance minister Philip Hammond for details of their financial services plans.

“We are expecting her to make a statement about why we should stay here,” said one executive who will be attend. “We need clarity, they are not thinking enough about the sector and we need to change that.”

Cailleach1 · 14/06/2018 23:36

John Mann hasn't a clue. When push comes to shove, no deal is worse for the UK than Ireland or the rest of the EU.

prettybird · 14/06/2018 23:45

What they can't get through their thick skulls tiny intellects is that the (undoubted) pain will be divided amongst 27 countries whereas the impact on the UK will be borne on the UK's shoulders alone but especially the poorest Sad

It's not rocket science. Confused

But it does challenge the shibboleth that "they" might not know who we are Shock

Cailleach1 · 14/06/2018 23:48

Isabel got called a tabloid hack. She says she is not a hack. Tomatoes, tomaytoes.

woman11017 · 14/06/2018 23:53

Beardy man's speech on trust seems to have won that programme.

Cailleach1 · 14/06/2018 23:54

The chap in the audience said he never thought he'd say he trusted a Conservative politician, albeit a legally trained one. However, he'd trust him a damn sight more than a tabloid hack. For once, a spade is being called a spade. She was so busy trying to paint Grieve as getting in the way of the will of the people. Good to see the tables turned on her. It won't matter as she probably has the hide of a rhino. Quite the hobgoblin. With many hobgoblin friends. All my own (probably prejudiced) views.

tava63 · 14/06/2018 23:54

prettybird there is also widescale ignorance of the fact that all the other EU 27 country members have to agree to whatever future deal may be negotiated - not just the ERG!

Cailleach1 · 14/06/2018 23:55

I totally agree, woman.

woman11017 · 14/06/2018 23:58

I presume she kept 'mistakenly' calling Grieve Damion deliberately too. She works for a very spooky bunch. She's one of those Stepford Kelly Anne Conways.

SusanWalker · 14/06/2018 23:58

I'm glad I watched it now. DG was very good, explained his position well. Isabel told him he was making it too complicated and difficult for everyone to understand, so obviously she either can't understand it herself, or she's the kind of idiot who thinks details will sort themselves out. I thought Matthew Wright was quite good, pointed out TMs red lines made the whole thing undeliverable. And I have a girl crush on Leeanne Wood, she has the most beautiful speaking voice i could listen to her for hours and she made good points about the devolved powers and the cost of a hard brexit to Wales.

SusanWalker · 15/06/2018 00:02

Also Isabel said that politicians come across as if they are more intelligent than the rest of us, to which I thought I would like them to be, seeing as they are running the country and all.

prettybird · 15/06/2018 00:03

True tava63 Grin

Sooooo much angst and energy being spent within the Government and WM on negotiating positions that are never going to be accepted by the E27 ConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfused see what I did there? Wink

Cailleach1 · 15/06/2018 00:04

A few are annoyed. A leave vote for sovereignty will result in a lessening of sovereignty in Wales. Smelling the coffee.

A disorderly withdrawal will most likely mean the EU will have no appetite for a future trade deal. A hornets' nest. Brexiteers so want to say FU and the horse you rode in on to the EU. Just because. But there will be consequences.
