Westmistenders: 'No Deal please; We're British'

It has to be said that its almost as if Tory Rebels are too polite to challenge the PM.

But the stakes are getting higher and higher as it becomes more and more apparent that it is a clear choice between a chaotic no deal situation or a BINO and there is no alternative to that.

If the Tory Rebels don't show their grit and are not prepared to be as strong in their determination as the Brexiteers - out of almost politeness and obligation - then No Deal awaits.

As things move forward, the threat to May once again re-emerges too. If May doesn't do what the ERG say they are minded and will try to oust her. They have nothing to lose by it.

The Tory knives are hidden behind backs one again. Waiting.

Which way will the Withdrawal Bill go? Which way will the Trade Bill later this month go?

We are running out of time and options: for either a deal or no deal.

Time has already run out for many ordinary people - they just might not know that yet, but the decision has already be made about their future.

But - people like me will disengage from the political process.

Given your previous contributions on MN that's probably not a bad thing.

After all, what is the point in voting if your vote counts for nothing?

Take it you're not familiar with First past the post.

Well if nothing else we live in exciting times.

Yeah I'm sure the 3 million EU citizens in the UK left in limbo are delighted.

RedToothBrush · 13/06/2018 19:52

I'm sorry a peace agreement enshrined in international law is an inconvenience to you.

Its hardly 'holding the rest of the country to ransom'.

I would start with tomatoes and salad Scoobydoo It saves a lot of money and is very convenient just to pick them when you need to.

Theworldisfullofgs · 13/06/2018 19:54

hey actually I really can't be bothered with that kind of passive aggressive stuff. It really isn't worth my effort and doesn't progress anything. But do carry on if you find it amuses you.

veg people kale, Tom's, courgettes. Just about to pumpkins in and the borlottis are sprouting nicely. We have a terrible slug problem, though.

Tambien · 13/06/2018 19:54

My point is that the remain ‘side’ have been equally odious in their atttempts to ‘big up’ the sense of imminent disaster

Hmm it seems though that the study done by the governemnet about what would happen in the U.K. if we leave on WTO terms are quite dire. The Armageddon scenario seems to me to be worse than the Project Fear tbh.

I fully agree with rtb about how badly everyone has handled the situation.
I’m just not sure that things won’t be that bad if we dont reach an agreement with the EU.

TheElementsSong · 13/06/2018 19:54

Yes agree - salad is the easiest thing to start with.

Theworldisfullofgs · 13/06/2018 19:55

And beetroot!

TheElementsSong · 13/06/2018 19:56

Oh yes, beetroot! And you can eat the tops, bonus!

Why the Gardeners Question time in this Brexit thread? A new approach to surrealism or something?
FWIWT I am looking forward to some shallots I planted a few weeks ago
but I haven't had time to put anything else in.
Are we 'marking time' waiting for a pronouncement from Westminster?

BigChocFrenzy · 13/06/2018 19:57

My concern about Parliament having won the right to review in November / December / January if the govt is still clueless:

Under A50, the EU is required to negotiate a deal with a departing member country within 2 years,
but
the EU is not obliged to re-negotiate outside this timeframe until the departing country has made up its mind what it wants

Otherwise negotiations might take decades to complete, not just the transition itself (which may well need 10 years to avoid pain)

RedToothBrush · 13/06/2018 19:57

NI Potatoes!
NI Beef!

Yummy yummy. Shame the lorries are all stuck in the queues at Holyhead and everyone has run out of fuel due to delays at customs.

I'm not talking gardening, because I have black, not green, fingers:
whatever I plant curls up and dies

Tambien · 13/06/2018 19:58

rtb I think they have done the same to Scotland too.
Which means that they e also added another tone on the path of seeing the U.K. explode.....

I think it’s coming from an intrinsic issue. Devolved governemnet in NI and Scotland but none for England. So it puts needs of England on a pedestal compare to the others.

Its an ongoing joke about needing to grow turnips because we can't import food due to customs problems so we will need to grow our own food.

Same here. Plus my garden is the size of a postage stamp and the builders left so much debris when they built the house, its impossible to plant anything. Even grass won't grow in it. Hence I have an environmentally unfriendly plastic law which is fabulous, but not very edible.

And since when are you going to need green fingers anyway Big Choc since you are an evil traitor with access to nasty foreign food?

Tory Rebel Remainers say Hailsham is tabling Grieve's "meaningful vote" amendment - which @theresa_may tried to kill yesterday - in Lords, in case she fails to honour pledge she made to table government amendment capturing spirit of Grieve's. Battle not over #EUWithdrawalBill

Cailleach1 · 13/06/2018 20:07

Red, lorries from NI have to go through Ireland to get across to Holyhead.

woman11017 · 13/06/2018 20:08

on the nod” with no discussion
voting on the executive nod in the totatlitarian/henry 8th styley.
Likewise repealing primary and secondary legislation?

Peregrina · 13/06/2018 20:10

Why is there this dislike of Germany? No one would realise that Nazis were defeated in 1945 the way some trolls go on. Since then it's been a well run, orderly country, which could teach us quite a lot about running productive industries. And one which thankfully learnt the hard way about holding Referenda.

Sorry I missed the start of GQT as I spent the afternoon mowing some friends gardens.
For my offering I have some organic French beef to go with my minuscule shallot harvest (if it grows properly).
My effort to 'Remain' in Europe amounted to leaving the UK although it wasn't Brexit inspired.

Peregrina · 13/06/2018 20:11

No lorries can go from Belfast to Stranraer, I believe.

woman11017 · 13/06/2018 20:12

@tnewtondunn
Break: Corbyn suffers biggest rebellion yet - 90 Labour MPs defy his 3 line whip on EEA: 75 voted in favour of it, 15 voted against. That's more than a third of the entire parliamentary party.

Break: Five Labour MPs resign from Corbyn's frontbench to vote for EEA - shadow cabinet office minister Laura Smith, and PPSs Ged Killen, Ellie Reeves, Tonia Antoniazzi and Anna McMorrin.

Peregrina · 13/06/2018 20:12

I hope to get a good crop of figs this year.
