Westmistenders: 'No Deal please; We're British'

It has to be said that its almost as if Tory Rebels are too polite to challenge the PM.

But the stakes are getting higher and higher as it becomes more and more apparent that it is a clear choice between a chaotic no deal situation or a BINO and there is no alternative to that.

If the Tory Rebels don't show their grit and are not prepared to be as strong in their determination as the Brexiteers - out of almost politeness and obligation - then No Deal awaits.

As things move forward, the threat to May once again re-emerges too. If May doesn't do what the ERG say they are minded and will try to oust her. They have nothing to lose by it.

The Tory knives are hidden behind backs one again. Waiting.

Which way will the Withdrawal Bill go? Which way will the Trade Bill later this month go?

We are running out of time and options: for either a deal or no deal.

Time has already run out for many ordinary people - they just might not know that yet, but the decision has already be made about their future.

Laura Kuenssberg @bbclaurak
Guess who it seems was in Number 10 today? David Cameron and John Major - trying to find out why ....

hmmm

Jessica Elgot @jessicaelgot
Some very interesting interventions in the Commons now in succession - Dominic Grieve, Ken Clarke, Sarah Wollaston, Heidi Allen - sounding supportive notes on the customs union....

maybe tonight's votes might be a bit more interesting that we thought

If its going to be close the SNP better fucking turn up.

But would you all be happy to stay just in the CU ?

user1486062886 · 13/06/2018 14:44

Surely it’s in the SNP not to turn up tonight

OlennasWimple · 13/06/2018 14:46

Great stunt intervention by the SNP leader

RedToothBrush · 13/06/2018 14:48

I would be happy with ANY and EVERY alignment we keep with the EU.

I'd prefer as many as possible.

You have to start the roll back somewhere. I'll take the customs union as being that start.

user1486062886 · 13/06/2018 14:50

But if it’s only Cu ?

RedToothBrush · 13/06/2018 14:53

We will see what comes to pass first. I don't believe that the custom union alone is compatible with the GFA nor the agreements already made over NI. I do not think it is possible for it to be the CU alone. There will have to be something else too. Or there will be no deal.

mrsreynolds · 13/06/2018 14:57

What's that spam faced fucker Cameron doing at no 10??
😡😡😡😡

I'll take CU

I'll take anything

The Gov better start planning for a no deal then, rather than leaving it to late

RedToothBrush · 13/06/2018 14:59

David Allen Green @davidallengreen
If one was a cynical person....

...one would think Grieve and others have set May up in a trap...

...for they know she may not be able to keep her word...

...and if she breaks her word...

...they will never be able to be bought off with assurances again

So either May keeps her word or the rebels are released from accepting mere assurances ever again.

Win-win.

A bunch of lawyers made a deal 'in good faith' without getting it in writing first.
Just saying.

Emma Ahmed @EmploymentPSL
As a lawyer it was painful yesterday to watch the Solicitor General ask Grieve (in terms) to trust that discussions would take place "in good faith". Couldn't help but wonder if he'd advise a client to rely on such a vague promise?!?

It does make you wonder.

KT #OdeToJoy Parker @lunaperla
I think the rebels played a blinder. Yes, they could have knocked this on the head yesterday, but by spinning it out and snookering May, their ranks are likely to swell. Other ministers will follow Lee's example and resign to vote for parliament to take back control of #Brexit.

Doesn't it?

Could the Rebels plan and pull off such a move? I wouldn't argue they couldn't... mainly because they understand what the fuck is going on, which is more than I can say for any other members of parliament and government.

Already too late for that.
It was already too late on 30th March 2017.

It's amazing what you can get away with "in good faith", including murder, as the de Menezes family know Sad

woman11017 · 13/06/2018 15:12

Why is this turnip Buckland getting an hour to speak? Soubry was given only 6 minutes yesterday and SNP nothing.

Could the Rebels plan and pull off such a move
They may not have won a vote anyway yesterday but timing is all ......

Peregrina · 13/06/2018 15:22

What is this British Establishment that people are referring to? As far as I am concerned it's a predominantly Southern English Establishment, although Rees-Smug has a West Country seat.

RedToothBrush · 13/06/2018 15:37

I just don’t understand all this in fighting, the gov by a vast majority gave the public the vote, why didn’t they have all this out before the vote, which I have said many times was a very obvious leave win, All this should have been sorted before the referendum, As much as you can be upset at leave voters, I don’t think many people could have expected the complete and utter shambles the government is at the moment, I goes to show life goes on even when the gov haven’t got there hand on the till

I can't speak for anyone else, but no great surprise to me. Along with the complete paralysis of parliament thus far (and for the foreseeable future). Why, it's almost as if we were warned before the referendum.

AndSheSteppedOnTheBall · 13/06/2018 16:46

user, I'm not in the least surprised by the shambles. I was surprised (well, shocked and appalled) that Leave won, because it was very obvious to me that there was no way to leave without it being a total shambles.

That Leave voters couldn't see it coming says it all, really.

There's cake, chocolate and wine over in Europe.
If you get a good telescope you might be able to see it from the white cliffs of Dover.

user1486062886 · 13/06/2018 16:47

Why couldn’t the government see it ?
