Not the Brexit Arms

Since BrexitArmsLandlady says she isn't starting anymore threads here's a place to discuss Brexit developments for those that still want to.

It never ceases to amaze me what a shambles this is.

The cabinet still can't even agree what we want, let alone what we're going to get.

Why do people presume that people that didn't vote where so desperate to remain that they thought it was a good idea not to bother to vote. I suspect most of the people that didn't vote just couldn't be bothered one way or the other, so don't keep claiming they wanted to remain as it stands rightly or wrongly the majority of people that voted, voted to leave, no ifs no buts, lets agree on that .

time4chocolate · 16/07/2018 11:55

Ooh weird occurrence there - maybe need to get back to work Blush

If there was a second referendum and leave won again, would you now accept the result or want another and another till you got the result you want ?

DGRossetti · 16/07/2018 11:57

More people voted to leave than voted to remain.

Not if you respect the fact that the UK is two countries, a Principality and a Province.

I infer they didn't vote. That's all. Whatever their reasons. We are stuck with a vote which does not represent the majority view of the electorate. Because it wasn't set up that way.
And so I prep.

Rosstac · 16/07/2018 12:01

Motheroffourdragons Leave had more votes than remain, ie a majority of votes casted. what is so hard to understand

BolleauxtoBankers · 16/07/2018 12:01

In particular, a lot of us have been pointing out that the leave voters were manipulated and lied to, so potentially there is scope for a different result today now these things are known.

^
This is so true and is what most people who voted to leave absolutely refuse to acknowledge, as it completely destroys their version of Brexit facts. Plus, British people with the vote who live in EU countries should also have been allowed to vote, obviously.

Peregrina · 16/07/2018 12:05

There were also foreign residents whose postal ballot papers arrived too late for them to be able to. Add to that flooding in the South East on the day and disruption to Southern Trains, meaning that a lot of would be voters couldn't get to the polls in time. How much difference would it have made ? Hard to say.

Why is it that Cameron's pledge to implement the result of the Referendum (i.e. he thought Remain would win, so do sweet FA), is regarded as sacrosanct, but his Manifesto pledge to enfranchise overseas residents, and the manifesto pledge to support the Single Market are conveniently overlooked?

Helmetbymidnight · 16/07/2018 12:07

Why is it, do you think, that remainers are so concerned about Brexit?

Greens proposal (with a 2nd preference vote to give a suitable majority) could work and solve the impasse in Government.

Though if the decision is still Leave, who and how would that be implemented? no one so far has come up with a workable solution, We d still be left with all the EU bodies we need to be in (Europol especially) and the NI border issue.

Have Tories started listening to women ?

54321go · 16/07/2018 12:36

Rumour has it that Mrs May is a woman, and Mrs Thatcher was too.
If a pink and green stripey cat were in charge and could manage to get out of this mess then it would be worth voting for.

"Allowed to vote" Confused. Did someone actually say there was a majority among those "allowed to vote "? God help us all.

frumpety · 16/07/2018 12:55

What the UK Government and Parliament need to decide is whether they only have a duty to 26% of the population ?

DGRossetti · 16/07/2018 13:03

Rumour has it that Mrs May is a woman, and Mrs Thatcher was too.

The question was not "name Tory women Prime Ministers", it was "Have the Tories started listening to women ?"

Current evidence is sparse. Remember this is the government that invented the rape clause for child benefit claimants. That alone makes me wonder how any woman could vote Tory.

The only good thing about the current debacle, is that it's not only counter to Mrs Thatchers views. It's pissing all over her legacy.

Rosstac · 16/07/2018 13:16

frumpety Our should they listen to the minority of voters

Rosstac · 16/07/2018 13:18

bellinisurge Yes allowed to vote, do you want the Russians to have a vote? Oh wait a minute you probably believe they already did

Rosstac · 16/07/2018 13:19

Motheroffourdragons Why do you keep including the non voters ? They had their chance,
