Not the Brexit Arms

Since BrexitArmsLandlady says she isn't starting anymore threads here's a place to discuss Brexit developments for those that still want to.

It never ceases to amaze me what a shambles this is.

The cabinet still can't even agree what we want, let alone what we're going to get.

No I just chose it because it was the most ridiculous think I could think of and I like Elvis. It’s only slightly more ridiculous than your question to me. I don’t have a crystal ball I’m afraid.

frumpety · 14/07/2018 06:52

Surfer we are leaving the EU by remaining in bits of it or trying our hardest to. Is that what you voted for ?

54321go · 14/07/2018 08:11

If you just look at the 12 items on Mrs May's list and think forwards what they actually mean in practice you will see that leaving is a BAD idea.
Security for example. The UK will not have full access to the data and technology of the EU police forces. All the police and security work done in the EU will have to be duplicated by the UK.
This means that rather than being on anEU wide database when you go on holiday your passport information will need greater checks(translating into time at the borders).
The Galileo satellite system, for GPS and far more will not be accessible to the UK.
Just in time manufacturing will practically stop as the extra warehousing necessary to 'feed' production lines would be too expensive.

Peregrina · 14/07/2018 09:30

I think May was of the opinion that she could publicly opt out of the Security aspect of the EU and then quietly opt back in when her right wingers weren't looking. Now she's found out that it doesn't work like that.

jasjas1973 · 14/07/2018 10:27

I just thought I would highlight that there is more than one unhinged leader doing the rounds this week. Especially given one of them is President of one of the largest trading blocs in the world. Did we have a say in that? can we remove him? Did the Americans vote in their president?

One of the more idiotic posts recently.
MEPs vote in the President and we vote in the MEPS but of course Juncker has no real power, unlike Trump with a huge Red button and can lock up kids, though May has also done that.
Good to know you acknowledge the EU is a v large trading block, one we are now leaving, with deal far worse than we ve got at present.

Peregrina · 14/07/2018 10:32

But I believe that the Americans don't actually vote in the President, but the electoral college does. Hence Hillary Clinton winning the popular vote but Trump becoming President.

Bearbehind · 14/07/2018 10:34

We’re leaving the EU.

Except not we're not surfer

We're still going to have to follow EU rules and effectively keep FOM, and that's just our opening offer which is going to be diluted because of the SM/ CU issue.

Not exactly what you voted for is it?

OP posts:
surferjet · 14/07/2018 10:37

No it’s not bear.

I guess it’s time to admit defeat.
We lost, you won.

You should be happy Smile

Peregrina · 14/07/2018 10:39

Unless the ERG force a crash out. I hope that Theresa May and her current Cabinet are aware of the tense situation now in N Ireland, and know that the absolute red line, must be to preserve the GFA or they will have blood on their hands.

Not that I think you care about that surferjet, I believe you have said so in the past.

Bearbehind · 14/07/2018 10:43

I don't understand you surfer, if you agree it's not what you voted for, in fact it's the worst of all world because we're still beholden to the EU with no say anymore, why do you still say I need to get over it?

OP posts:
time4chocolate · 14/07/2018 10:48

Jas Yes I did know it was the largest trading bloc and am happy to leave it.

Just as well Juncker has no real power really (we all know it’s Merkel) - the man is an embarrassment.

Thank goodness Hilary didn’t get in.

Everything happens for a reason Grin

surferjet · 14/07/2018 10:48

Because in the end, Brexit has gone more in your favour than mine.
It will be BINO which surely you’re happy about? Or happier than if we’d gone hard Brexit.
I know you didn’t want to leave the EU full stop, but what we’re getting is the best option for remainers. Yes?

surferjet · 14/07/2018 10:50

That’s why you need to ‘get over it’
we’re leaving, but on your terms.

Bearbehind · 14/07/2018 10:52

My terms would have been not to bother with this whole fiasco.

It annoys me beyond words that's it's all been for nothing, in fact, worse than nothing as it's a step backwards.

And those that chose it don't seem that bothered either way.

OP posts:
frumpety · 14/07/2018 10:54

Time so which trading blocs are we going to trade with next ?

jasjas1973 · 14/07/2018 11:04

@time4chocolate

Weird, you want to be dictated too by the yanks (even more than we are already) & where we ll have zero influence.
Got to love Fox as he seeks a favourable FTA with the US, we ve a trade surplus, they ll seek to reduce that, why would they give us any favours?

Good back track on Juncker, first he is a crazy world leader of the EU (which isnt a country so has no "leader" ) now he has no real power lol!

jasjas1973 · 14/07/2018 11:08

Leaving the EU on Mays terms, is the worst of both worlds.

Here i happen to agree with JRM, it ll leave us out of the best bits, we ll be a rule taker, still have FOM and limited ability to broker FTA's
Leaving the EU and joining EFTA would be the best compromise, as they have full access to EU FTA's and can do their own deals.

surferjet · 14/07/2018 11:10

It is the worst of both worlds, but she’s trying to appease remainers so this is what we’ve got.

Bearbehind · 14/07/2018 11:13

Appeasing both sides just means no one is happy.

And she's not trying to appease Remainers, she's acknowledging Leaving is impossible due to the fact we've done sod all about putting plans to do so in place.

OP posts:
jasjas1973 · 14/07/2018 11:35

May is in an impossible position, go soft brexit and she ll be booted out, go hard brexit and she ll be booted out, internal politics of the tory party are once again dictating what the UK will get.
She should call a GE, put art50 on hold and hope the electorate give the winning party a decent majority, its the best she can do for the country.

Biggest concern for me, is not being part of Europol, something our Police forces use constantly.

time4chocolate · 14/07/2018 12:29

Biggest concern for me, is not being part of Europol, something our Police forces use constantly

We are the second largest (I think) contributer to Europol so for us to not be involved post brexit would be detrimental to the whole continent of Europe - massively shortsighted of the EU if they decide to continue without our input.

time4chocolate · 14/07/2018 13:06

jas just for the record nowhere did I say I wanted to be dictated to by to by the US and also I said Juncker was President of the largest trading bloc, I didn’t say he was a world leader.

DaisyTwirl · 14/07/2018 14:15

Turns out the Brexit domino effect actually meant the Brexit Arms leavers fucking off one by one.

Nah - the leavers are fucking off because they're bored to fuck with the whining theatrics from remoaners on these threads.

DaisyTwirl · 14/07/2018 14:20

they will have blood on their hands.

The only people with blood on their hands will be the wankers who choose violence as a means of objection.

DaisyTwirl · 14/07/2018 14:22

And she's not trying to appease Remainers,

Yes she is.
She has walked a tightrope to appease remainers whilst respecting the vote to leave.
