Ever closer to Brexit! 🥂 🍻 🍾

Remainers are welcome, as ever.

But!

If you just want to abuse Brexiteers, then start your own thread.

This is a pub thread, not an interrogate-a-Brexiteer thread

We have more in common etc, even if Brexit divides us.

WineBrewCakeThanks

ghost of - this country is almost at full employment.

You are literally clueless.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 06/04/2018 10:44

Clueless says the person who doesn’t understand sovereignty.

I think senior government officials should establish fact before shooting their mouths off. Salisbury was the perfect opportunity to bury bad news, Cambridge analytical anyone?

Heyduggeesflipflop · 06/04/2018 10:48

Nobody except the guardian newspaper really cares about the analytica story - evidence: everyone still uses Facebook...

Heyduggeesflipflop · 06/04/2018 10:49

Ghost of - what is your view on Salisbury - who do you think was responsible on balance of probability?

Hint: if your answer is anything other than Russia you are hopelessly naive.

mummmy2017 · 06/04/2018 10:50

Hey it's me that thinks it is failing....
People seem to be just about managing and not in a good way.. it's been going down in terms of how much money is left over after Bill's for years ....
Friends with business interests are not doing more than paying the bill's... people have had enough of boom and bust .... the vote was for a different way.... forcing any new government to make a lot of changes.... there didn't seem to be any other way to do this...

BrittW · 06/04/2018 10:56

The Ponzi scheme still hasn't had its accounts signed off. How many years is it now, and what other outfit would be allowed to trade year in, year out?

Of course the EU has played hard ball because they do not want UK to leave; we are one of the top 6 of contributors - always there, always prompt. Who's going to pick up the slack; the Baltics, Romania .... I don't think so!

GhostofFrankGrimes · 06/04/2018 11:05

If the government are genuinely concerned about Russia why don’t they do more than make a token gesture of expelling diplomats?

Yes let’s airbrush Cambridge analytica out like every other inconvenient truth. Of course the pro Brexit papers won’t cover it.

Heyduggeesflipflop · 06/04/2018 11:11

Ghost of - what do you propose the uk government do over Salisbury instead? Declare war?

But yet again - the second time in as many pages - you haven’t answered a pointed question. Who do you think was responsible?

Talkstotrees · 06/04/2018 11:12

Another one for you:

Heyduggeesflipflop · 06/04/2018 11:14

Talk to trees - interesting link - a good example of the answer depending on what side of the fence you sit on!

Rees-Mogg criticised over firm's Russian bank investment

www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/mar/20/rees-mogg-criticised-over-firms-russian-bank-investment

Talkstotrees · 06/04/2018 11:17

I know you’re not asking me Hey, but I have no personal opinion as to who was responsible. I am inclined to believe the Govt on this but my belief or otherwise is immaterial. I do think, though, that they should have followed the Chemical Weapons Convention guidelines, which it appears they have not. I also think that Boris Johnson is a dangerous, bumbling, embarrassment

mummmy2017 · 06/04/2018 11:21

That link over budgets made me laugh.
It had a yes.no and a maybe from the accountant.. talk about covering your own arse....

GhostofFrankGrimes · 06/04/2018 11:22

if you look at the BBC link you'll see accounts have been signed off every year since 2007.

Going back to the local elections in May, can I ask everyone if they vote for party or person in those elections?

I am hit & miss wrt voting in local elections usually - I've lived in Lib Dem, SNP, labour & Tory areas over the years.
The SNP area I voted against them on a party level, but the other two I voted for person.
If I were in a labour area now, I'd be voting against, regardless of person.

GE - usually person, but I voted for party in an SNP area (against SNP). If I was living in a labour area at the mo (which I'm not), I'd def vote against them on a party basis.

Wrt current govt - I'm happy with TM & current govt.
Boris Johnson is a bit of a twat, and should have been booted ages ago, but overall I'm happy - I'd vote Tory if there was an election tomorrow.

Wrt Brexit - even though I'd prefer a clean break, I'm comfortable with a Norway model for the immediate future as it would appease the majority of people, (soft remainers & soft leavers) - and coupled with a FTA, would solve the NI border. Complete Brexit is still possible in the future.

SM & CU option leaves us too bound up to the EU & so it would be unlikely that we'd ever move on from that - I'd be hugely fucked off if that was the outcome.

mummmy2017 · 06/04/2018 11:34

Accounts signed off but with errors... accountant speak for they are numerically correct..... But so many what the f errors it's untrue......
Like you took a million out...true..
Do you have receipts.......no

GhostofFrankGrimes · 06/04/2018 11:35

Norway is in the single market (EEA) so that won't resolve NI if Britain is determined to come out SM/CU.

Bellatron · 06/04/2018 11:43

Brexiteers can’t even agree amongst themselves. Laughable

Part of the extremist remainer's problem is the continued belief in Brexiters as the Borg.

Add to that, they are convinced that everyone who voted Remain is just like them, and therefore won't countenance anything other than stopping Brexit completely.

Back in the real world, the majority of the country is not extremist either way wrt Brexit, Leaver or Remainer.

Bellatron · 06/04/2018 11:46

Why are nation states so important?

Because different countries are different, and as such they have different needs & priorities.

One size does not, and never will, fit all.

Globalisation is good, but only with individual nation states working collaboratively - completely homogenised globalisation just creates greater inequality.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 06/04/2018 11:51

How do you propose the UK changes globalisation from 3rd party status, desperate from any trade deals it can pick up at a time when the 2 largest economies are engaged in a trade/tariff war?

Bellatron · 06/04/2018 11:51

I believe DC had genuinely honerable intentions but his naive arrogance and unwillingness to listen to experts (yes, him too) has led to this mahoosive clusterfuck.

Agree.

Labour is more of a middle class idealist party now

Also agree!

Bellatron · 06/04/2018 11:56

If the government are genuinely concerned about Russia why don’t they do more than make a token gesture of expelling diplomats?

Are you for real?!

The 'token expulsion of diplomats' on an international scale is unprecedented, and is a huge diplomatic success for U.K. & TM.

Out of interest, what action would you have preferred TM to take?

GhostofFrankGrimes · 06/04/2018 12:00

The 'token expulsion of diplomats' on an international scale is unprecedented, and is a huge diplomatic success for U.K. & TM.

How exactly was it a huge success? Do Russia look bothered? UK TV will be broadcasting the Russian world cup this summer, a great PR coup for them. Take alook at the Rees-Mogg article I linked also.

Very little concern about the allegations of Russian interference in the democratic elections of sovereign nations. Strange.

Heyduggeesflipflop · 06/04/2018 12:01

BEllatron - you are wasting your time with ghost of.

Truly she knows the price of everything but the value of nothing.

bearbehind · 06/04/2018 12:01

do you seriously not think Russia committed a state sanctioned assassination on uk soil?

Well the fundamental flaw with that comment is no one was actually assassinated.

That’s what makes me think it was us rather than Russia- whoever did it screwed it up.
