Ever closer to Brexit! 🥂 🍻 🍾

Remainers are welcome, as ever.

But!

If you just want to abuse Brexiteers, then start your own thread.

This is a pub thread, not an interrogate-a-Brexiteer thread

We have more in common etc, even if Brexit divides us.

WineBrewCakeThanks

Thread is coming to an end - I won't be starting any more. Someone else can do so if they wish to continue them.

I had hoped that they'd be a more lighthearted thread, separate from the more information-based Westminster ones, but unfortunately it was not to be.

I continue to look forward to brexit - with a Leave-leaning cabinet now in place thanks to Sajid Javid, and I am optimistic that the anti-brexit fanatics will be thwarted.

🍷 ThanksCake
To all fellow Brexiters, and to Frumpety & Rufus who stood out as genuinely nice people who tried to see beyond the way people voted, and were genuinely lovely to converse with.

Sajid Javid , he of the wide legged pose ? which incidentally,
appears to have disappeared from google images Grin

So I give you the first and finest exponent of such a stance ........

Cobblersandhogwash · 03/05/2018 06:45

Brexitarmslandlady, you'd hoped for a more lighthearted thread?

It's not to be given that even this government's has done studies that shows Britain will be worse off under every Brexit scenario.

There isn't anything to be lighthearted about. Unless you are a head in sand kind of person.

frumpety · 03/05/2018 07:34

Cobblers to be fair nearly every Leave voter still around on these threads has said they don't care if Brexit makes the country poorer , money isn't the be all and end all , there are more important issues at play for them. FOM being one of those.

I stand by my previous statements , I do not think the UK will leave the EU, especially not in the way that 'True Beleavers' thought would be the case when they voted in the referendum.

I still believe facts are and always should be vitally important, but I can also understand and respect that as complex as leaving the EU is , humans as equally so, and often their feelings and other emotions will override the rational side of their brain despite being presented with such facts. I see this on almost a daily basis in my job , I don't berate people for being stupid for not accepting all my lovely evidence based solutions and advice , I don't judge them . The main difference of course is that their decision have no material or otherwise, affect on my life, unfortunately the same is not true of the fiasco that is Brexit.

frumpety · 03/05/2018 07:50

Off to work now , have a good one and enjoy the sunshine Smile

And don't forget to vote

jasjas1973 · 03/05/2018 08:15

Brexit is an extremely damaging and divisive issue, what ever the result, you ve got 17m ish people dictating to the rest of the 64million the direction of the country for all our life times - there should never have been a referendum, unlike a GE there is no going back.

Unlike Frumpty, i firmly believe we ll leave and most likely with no immediate deal.
I feel sorry for younger generations, our generation (and previous ones) have really screwed them over, climate, housing, jobs, uni debt and now brexit, i say this because the vast majority of young people want to stay in the EU.

surferjet · 03/05/2018 08:22

i say this because the vast majority of young people want to stay in the EU

They should have voted then shouldn’t they - but apparently they were too busy get stoned at music festivals.

Doubletrouble99 · 03/05/2018 08:57

Your dead right Surfer. Loads of young people didn't vote. I also wonder about this idea that because more older people voted leave if the vote was taken again it wouldn't be the same.
I would ascertain that as people get older they tend to become more conservative in their views and with more experience may well change their view to leave rather than stay.
So I really can't see that all these young people have been hard done by at all, as you say they should have voted.

AgnesSkinner · 03/05/2018 09:01

How many people went to Glastonbury in 2016 surfer?

Hint it wasn’t a large proportion of under 25 voters.

Extra hint around 64% of 18 - 25 year olds voted in the EU referendum.

surferjet · 03/05/2018 09:18

Extra hint. around 64% of 18 - 25 year olds voted in the EU referendum

Extra Extra hint - then lots of them must have voted leave, hence the result.

AgnesSkinner · 03/05/2018 09:23

Nope - around 71% voted Remain.

There were just more older voters who voted Leave.

surferjet · 03/05/2018 09:35

Old people don’t matter of course.
Yes, we know how ageist remainers are.

But anyway - the only statistics that matter are 48% & 52%.

52 is more than 48.
You lost.
GET OVER IT.

Hasenstein · 03/05/2018 09:41

Surfer

If, as seems likely, we end up with BINO, will you just shrug and get over it?

AgnesSkinner · 03/05/2018 09:48

Nice twisting there surfer, I don’t count everyone as aged 26 years an over as “old”. Just “older” which is factually correct.

And we’re back to the old refrain of “remain lost, get over it”.

Well done

surferjet · 03/05/2018 09:49

No, because that’s not what we voted for.
We voted to leave the EU.
& I’d be entirely justified in ‘not getting over it’ because the country voted to leave and that’s what we should be doing - not leaving ‘in name only’
Remainers have no justification in still being angry - you lost. It was 2 years ago.

Bellatron · 03/05/2018 10:00

It's only a very tiny amount of people that are still raging Surfer - most reasonable people have accepted the vote & just want to get on with it.
