Ever closer to Brexit! 🥂 🍻 🍾

Remainers are welcome, as ever.

But!

If you just want to abuse Brexiteers, then start your own thread.

This is a pub thread, not an interrogate-a-Brexiteer thread

We have more in common etc, even if Brexit divides us.

WineBrewCakeThanks

But it is not surprising that eople are worried as nothing is clear yet.

It is very clear we have no idea how to actually Leave.

It is very clear the only way the NI border issue can be resolved is by staying in the SM/CU

It is very clear the expectations of Leavers are being dumbed down with each passing day.

It is very clear there is no substance behind any of the Leave slogans.

It is very clear you can't actually think of a single product we can buy outside the EU despite insisting that's the glory of Brexit.

Heyduggeesflipflop · 07/04/2018 20:56

Talk to trees

Disagree ref surestart - lots of evidence it doesn’t work. If children are at the conditions you cite age 4 then the parents are at fault and should have the children removed from that environment in extremis.

If we continue to mollycoddle incapable parents they won’t take any responsibility.

But we thread drift.

mummmy2017 · 07/04/2018 20:58

Cardinalsin this isn't a result of brexit
...you can't place the blame for people not talking to others on us...
This is a breakdown of society... mums having to go to work collect a child at 6 put them to bed and never being home . Means there is very little interaction with nextdoor or other mums in the area....... we don't live near family but where the work is.....hence why people are insular.

Heyduggeesflipflop · 07/04/2018 20:59

Just to add - just because some people are poor doesn’t mean bad parents are always going to come from that side of the tracks. Before someone (probably ghost of) accuses me of being anti working class/ anti poor/ unkind to kittens. I accept bad parenting isn’t just dictated by income.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 07/04/2018 21:00

Where do you remove the children to? Underfunded local authorities who already struggle with adoption/social services? You haven’t thought this through have you?

mummmy2017 · 07/04/2018 21:09

Where have I missed a page...removing children.....

Heyduggeesflipflop · 07/04/2018 21:11

Ghost of - more money floating about if we don’t use left wing white elephant policies like sure start.

Ooops silly me - a direct answer to your question. Forgot that’s not the game you play. Let me quote one of your random sentences out of context and then waffle on about some unconnected Shoite. That’s the ghost of way!

mummmy2017 · 07/04/2018 21:12

Brexit isn't about new trade deals but better deals for the UK...
Freedom to build our own future not the EU vision.... that won't fit 28 different country's with different needs ....one sizes does not fit all
.

Talkstotrees · 07/04/2018 21:14

Educating parents isn’t mollycoddling. Removing children doesn’t tackle the fundamental issues and is hugely expensive (not to mention damaging to the children). Surely the aim should be to fix the problem rather than saying it’s too expensive to fix & giving up.

Sure start centres have not been as successful as expected but they do benefit children and families. They’re just a(nother) casualty of austerity.

Hasenstein · 07/04/2018 21:17

Brexit isn't about new trade deals but better deals for the UK...

What does this even mean? What sort of "better deals"? And with whom?

mummmy2017 · 07/04/2018 21:24

Food could be 20% cheaper but EU set prices on lots of things....
We don't eat all we catch loads is chucked back... into the sea... we used to sort and land a fishing catch.... So there was a diversity of fish at a Local market ... meaning better profits per catch for a boat....
Lamb at different times of the year cost less from a country with a different season.....

Heyduggeesflipflop · 07/04/2018 21:27

Talk to trees - no austerity is not to blame - human nature is. Some people will simply not look after their children properly no matter how much money you throw at them or how much we supervise them.

By reinforcing state intervention in such areas all we do is increase the sense of entitlement in those kinds of people.

In doesn’t mean we should give up but it does mean we shouldn’t equate pounds spent with success. As I keep saying it’s not all about money... but the problem with many left wing policies in many areas is that financial largesse (or spending taxpayers money in other words) is assumed to effect change.

Cobblersandhogwash · 07/04/2018 21:30

Mummy2017, what do you mean by better trade deals exactly? Do you have details? Nobody else seems to.

We won't have any leverage. We had lots of leverage as members of a big trading block.

Please could you explain how you would change trade deals to suit the U.K. better?

Liam Fox has been shuttling around the world and has managed to secure sweet FA. And nor will he. I know it's tricky as we've not actually left yet but I think you'll find the world won't be queuing up to give us favourable deals.

Could you explain why you think the UK will take precedence over the EU when it comes to trade deals?

Talkstotrees · 07/04/2018 21:31

Completely and utterly disagree with you on this Hey and can see that we’ll always be poles apart, so as you said, it’s thread drift - let’s agree to disagree.

Heyduggeesflipflop · 07/04/2018 21:33

What exactly is the problem with hard Brexit and reversion to wto rules.

Genuinely, can anyone tell me?

At the moment it feels like the current version of Brexit is merely designed to continue alignment with the eu for when we all (apparently) change our minds in 5 years time...

GhostofFrankGrimes · 07/04/2018 21:35

I see some people are still peddling the benefit scrounger line...

I’m not sure how strangling funding from library closures to public sector pay freezes benefits the country, but then some don’t believe in society either...

Heyduggeesflipflop · 07/04/2018 21:35

Talk to trees - no problem - life would be boring if we all shared the same views.

One thing we can agree on is that it is ultimately unfair that children are the ones who suffer from bad parents.

mummmy2017 · 07/04/2018 21:36

You seem to thing that once a country trades with the EU they are unable to trade with anyone else....strange that.....
So what products does the EU have the monopoly on that won't be around when we leave so i can stock up..

Heyduggeesflipflop · 07/04/2018 21:37

Ghost of - library closures - people aren’t using them en made anymore - they are this no longer economic to maintain..,

bearbehind · 07/04/2018 21:37

What exactly is the problem with hard Brexit and reversion to wto rules?

Are you taking the piss?

How does the NI border issue get resolved in that situation, just for starters?

AgnesSkinner · 07/04/2018 21:39

We don't eat all we catch loads is chucked back... into the sea...

You’re out of date there mummmy

ec.europa.eu/dgs/maritimeaffairs_fisheries/magazine/en/policy/discarding-discards-0

But don’t thank Farage, the UK MEP who sat on the EU fisheries committee but managed to attend 1 out of 42 meetings. It was left to
a TV chef to mobilise support against the discard policy.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 07/04/2018 21:41

Hey, not everything’s about money apparently...

Heyduggeesflipflop · 07/04/2018 21:41

My point was about wto rules. But you ignored that so let’s go back to your ni hobby horse.

I would say that the eu already has huge land borders with non eu nations on the continent. This border process is already happening every day!

This is being kicked up because we are psychologically used to being an island nation. I don’t see the existing eu land borders in the papers every day for not working!

mummmy2017 · 07/04/2018 21:42

OMG Hey.... you put WTO in Bears coco....duck... she is about to lose it start throwing toys.....
