Ever closer to Brexit! 🥂 🍻 🍾

Remainers are welcome, as ever.

But!

If you just want to abuse Brexiteers, then start your own thread.

This is a pub thread, not an interrogate-a-Brexiteer thread

We have more in common etc, even if Brexit divides us.

WineBrewCakeThanks

By the way - ‘brexshitters’? What a patronising comment.

Almost as infantile as "ReMoaners". But less inflammatory than "Traitors" Hmm

mummmy2017 · 07/04/2018 18:47

Taking back control is about the future.....changing laws and rules if needed... you don't know you have red tape till your wrapped up in it... But how great to be Able to amend Uk laws ...

GhostofFrankGrimes · 07/04/2018 18:49

Hey, this working class remainer certainly isnt obsessed with money. Remember now I’m not the one dismissing the closure of sure start centres, austerity etc.

KennDodd · 07/04/2018 18:50

Surviving outside the eu is preferable to thriving within it.

Really?

Would you also say civil war in NI while outside the EU is preferable to peace in NI while inside it?

KennDodd · 07/04/2018 18:55

Just skimmed the last page but what with all the 'we can trade with the world instead' nonsense? Have you lot never been into a shop? We already do trade with the rest of the world.

I meet exporters all the time, loads of tiny little companies exporting all over the world. I've yet to meet a single one of them who thinks Brexit is a good thing.

KennDodd · 07/04/2018 18:57

Anyway, if there is one thing I agree with Leavers on it's that the economy isn't the biggest concern, it was far down my list as well.

mummmy2017 · 07/04/2018 18:58

You must have met millions and millions of traders then......

bearbehind · 07/04/2018 19:01

Just skimmed the last page but what with all the 'we can trade with the world instead' nonsense? Have you lot never been into a shop? We already do trade with the rest of the world.

kenndodd, its pointless, I've been here with mummmy before.

She regularly bandiee about her desire to strike new trade deals yet is completly incapable of citing even one example where we can get somtething we couldn't before.

It's all part of the pitiful clinging to slogans that they've been brainwashed into reciting, even though they have no substance behind them.

KennDodd · 07/04/2018 19:03

I know 100% your not the governor at the bank of England... and he thinks we .can survive.. So he will do for me.....

So when he said Brexit will damage the UK, he will do for you then as well?

KennDodd · 07/04/2018 19:05

You must have met millions and millions of traders then......

No, but I have met hundreds. Brexit rarely comes up as that's no what I'm there for, I think it's come up 25-30 times in conversation.

mummmy2017 · 07/04/2018 19:17

He also said that while it would damage the UK short term we would recover .... and replace lost trade..
One trick pony ....... name a trade deal.
Answer ... not my job...
Pleaee write to
NO10 ..... ask there .......

mummmy2017 · 07/04/2018 19:21

Kenn then your sample of traders is just a small slice and not representative of more than your limited business sector....
Remain tend to do this a lot..
.
Take one thing and apply it to everything.....as if it is a definitive statement....

KennDodd · 07/04/2018 19:43

limited business sector....

I visit every type of business/employer there is, from one man bands to huge great multi nationals. I agree, it's a small slice but why are you so sure it's not representative? I am yet to meet an exporter positive about it which of course doesn't mean they don't exist.

Met on business person last week who said 'basically, we're fucked'. He was an importer and processer though, not an exporter.

I work in H&S in case you ask and try to visit four businesses a day, not all are exporters.

bearbehind · 07/04/2018 19:50

mummmy if you wanted to try and rescue a shred of credibility on these threads you'd have come up with at least 1 example of a trade deal we could seek outside the EU that we couldn't do inside.

If you still can't, it just goes to prove how little thought you've actually given to this process.

mummmy2017 · 07/04/2018 19:54

Ken you said 30 ish mentioned it....
4 a day ... 100 a month
1000 a year......
So less than 3 %.....
Not a lot really.....
Bear one trick pony ...

Let's import ice from Alaska....

KennDodd · 07/04/2018 20:04

mummmy2017

It's less than that, maybe about 600 different employers a year, most are not exporters. 100% negativity amongst exporters I've met. I agree, that can't possibly be representive some exporters must be positive about it surely.

Heyduggeesflipflop · 07/04/2018 20:08

Ghost of - correct I couldn’t give a monkeys about sure start centres. More gimickery from the left - the state has no business supervising society in that way.

The state should focus on rule of law, defence of the realm and provide sufficient welfare such that it prevents poverty but remains low enough that it isn’t a long term cushy number.

Individuals - like countries - are responsible for their own destinies.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 07/04/2018 20:12

Except in unequal societies people have limited control over their destinies. Social mobility is a crock.

Lol at “defence of the realm” what century do you live in?

mummmy2017 · 07/04/2018 20:12

So your first statement about how many has changed.....
Too be honest I do understand how people are worried about this on business . But if 100% of UK buisness worry about it . It will be the same in the EU.......unless both sides do something it will just be a case of wait and see...... but trade wont

mummmy2017 · 07/04/2018 20:14

Won't stop I will just be a different way to do it.

Talkstotrees · 07/04/2018 20:23

Hey, Sure Start and Children’s Centres (also closing rapidly) are about helping the children. Helping the children who arrive at school aged 4+ unable to communicate, still in nappies, malnourished and developmentally delayed. These initiatives are intended to break the cycle - to give children a chance in life.

You would deny them this help because it’s state intervention? Helping these children to achieve a better future not only helps the individuals (laudable enough imho) but also benefits society. I think you’re very wrong on this. Like the folks who think free school meals are wrong and it’s the responsibility of the “feckless” parents to feed their kids. Of course it is! But if they won’t, why should the children suffer? It’s not their fault. In a decent society we should help those who are suffering.

mummmy2017 · 07/04/2018 20:37
  • well said Trees..
I do think the poorest need to be supported.. I also think we have all become very insular.. Hope that's the right word. Human kindness and looking out for others is almost frowned on..
KennDodd · 07/04/2018 20:46

So your first statement about how many has changed.....

No. I said I try to visit four businesses a day, about I day a week it's only three. I work term time only and some employers (not all are businesses) I visit twice in the year. I repeat visit about 15% the next year.

CardinalSin · 07/04/2018 20:50

"I also think we have all become very insular"

As voted for by the Quitlings!

mummmy2017 · 07/04/2018 20:50

You said brexit didn't come up maybe 25 - 30...

I think I just misunderstood your context ... But it is not surprising that eople are worried as nothing is clear yet.
