Good news yesterday < gets out green highlighter >
Still work to be done but it’s another step in the right direction.

Wine

Ps: completely given up on the Brexit Arms as it’s been taken over by remainers.
This is our chilled out place to post on in the run up to March 2019.

We don't know that the UK isn't going to disappear. In twenty years time, the blue passports might say England and Wales on them.
After all the United Kingdom that my parents were born into isn't the same one that I was born into. Hint - my United Kingdom is a bit smaller.

JWIM · 24/03/2018 15:31

So back to Surfer's positive people.

I am positive that leaving the EU will be rules based, and the UK will adhere to those rules.

I am positive that the UK and EU will both agree that the GFA/BA/peace agreement will not be breached and there will be no border on the island of Ireland.

I am positive that there will be a CU/SM solution agreed between the UK and EU27 and it will have a new name/acronym.

I am positive that leavers will be told, and accept (maybe) that we have left the EU 28 and that body is now the EU27. The UK/EU new name 'agreement' will mean that the UK will adhere to all EU rules going forward, the UK will retain the rights to participate in financial and other services in the new UK/EU new name 'agreement'.

I also am positive that under the UK/EU new name 'agreement' the UK will pay to access the goods/services/capital/workers at a rate that is more than the 'mates rates' of the EU27.

I can't be positive (sorry) that the UK will participate in any democratic activity in the EU27 and there won't be a democratic element to the new UK/EU new name 'agreement'.

Leavers will be happy - we will have left the EU28, we will no longer be beholden to the undemocratic bureaucracy they see as the EU Council, EU Commission, EU Parliament.

Peregrina · 24/03/2018 15:35

I can't be positive (sorry) that the UK will participate in any democratic activity in the EU27 and there won't be a democratic element to the new UK/EU new name 'agreement'.

But a positive here is that Farage and his fellow UKIPers will be out of a job, and if the party is wound up, as looks likely, then we might just see the back of Farage in the media all the time. I wonder if he'll do a bunk and go off to his friend Trump, or have they fallen out?

mummmy2017 · 24/03/2018 15:36

I am happy we can do trade deals with other counties.

JWIM · 24/03/2018 16:00

I didn't say that in my list of positives. I don't think we will be negotiating any new FTAs but UK citizens might be told that we are 'negotiating worldwide' to cover the EU27, UK and the 750+ counterparty countries as they set about rolling over those EU28/3rd party agreements to include the UK when it is no longer part of the EU28.

Let's hope that our politicians (Boris, Liam, DD) don't mess it up and we end up with fewer international agreements in place after than currently.

JWIM · 24/03/2018 16:01

But we will have left the EU28 - hurray for us!

Glad that Mummy and Surfer will be happy.

bearbehind · 24/03/2018 16:08

I am happy we can do trade deals with other counties.

mummmy can you name a country who's products we desperately want, that we could potentially access which we couldn't before.

LondonMum8 · 24/03/2018 16:23

@mummy2017:

We also know the UK isn't going to disappear ...

That would be a piss-poor consolation, if it was even true given the NI situation, and the ongoing risk of losing Scotland, compounded by Brexit.

So sorry bear but not going to bite.
Still not sure about the car going past ghosts house.

mummmy2017 · 24/03/2018 16:30

Olivia you poor dear..

You really are finding this hard. Never mind you can stay here safe on this thread and pretend....

KennDodd · 24/03/2018 16:31

I went on one of the pro EU marches today, loads of people, really great atmosphere, very glad I went. There was a small (about 12 - 15 people) pro Leave counter demonstration, they were so angry, aggressive and racist. They accused me of being a traitor and loving foreigners over my own people because I had an EU flag. They also said 'I bet you wouldn't march in the street to protect British jobs, would you!' I dared to point out that I was marching in the street to protect British jobs Grin That didn't go down well!

Why are they so angry? They won.

bearbehind · 24/03/2018 16:35

So sorry bear but not going to bite.

What do you mean bite?

I'm not goading you, I'm asking a very simple question.

You repeatedly stated you want the UK to get trade deals with other countries.

I'm asking which products and which countries do we desperately need that we couldn't access without leaving the EU.

mummmy2017 · 24/03/2018 16:35

It's the remain who are angry on here.
I think it is the hard factor both sides..........

mummmy2017 · 24/03/2018 16:37

Bear an thing said gets twisted. You know it does...

bearbehind · 24/03/2018 16:40

There's nothing to twist mummmy; you want us to trade with other countries, I'm asking which countries and products that applies to.

The fact is it's nothing more than a sound bite from you and you haven't got a clue, you just think it sounds good.

mummmy2017 · 24/03/2018 16:43

Until you enter negotiations how do you know... unknowns again...

LondonMum8 · 24/03/2018 16:43

"They won."

The problem is, it's a Pyrrhic victory at best.

KennDodd · 24/03/2018 16:45

Maybe the counter demonstration today were Briton First or NF/BNP something like that? They're all really passionate Leavers... wonder why?

bearbehind · 24/03/2018 16:47

I'm asking which countries we want to 'enter into negotiations' with mummmy

I'm asking you which countries and products we couldn't access whilst in the EU that you want us to be able to access now?

You frequently mention this; surely you have 1 example?

JWIM · 24/03/2018 16:47

Presumably Mummy you could say who we will be entering those negotiations with but granted the ambit of the goods, though probably not services, would then depend on what was negotiated.

So could you say what countries the UK should aim to negotiate a FTA with once we have 'left' the EU28? I know you won't be doing it, you won't have a say in how those negotiations proceed. Just which countries - your opinion?

Moussemoose · 24/03/2018 16:48

Pyrrhic - was he one of those Greeks?

KennDodd · 24/03/2018 16:48

I'm asking you which countries and products we couldn't access whilst in the EU that you want us to be able to access now?

Is it chlorinated chicken? Grin

Peregrina · 24/03/2018 16:49

If Brexit, other than BINO, does happen, I would also expect it to cause May, Fox, Johnson and Davis to 'to a Cameron' and leave politics as fast as they are able to. That may or may not be a positive, depending on who comes to fill their places.

Peregrina · 24/03/2018 16:49

'do a Cameron' - mistyped, sorry.
