Yet it is a great mistake to suppose that the only writers who matter are those whom the educated in their saner moments can take seriously. There exists a subterranean world where pathological fantasies disguised as ideas are churned out by crooks and half-educated fanatics for the benefit of the ignorant and the superstitious. There are times when this underworld emerges from the depths and suddenly fascinates, capturers and dominates multitudes of usually sane and responsible people, who thereupon take leave of sanity and responsibility. And it occasionally happens that this underworld becomes a political power and changes the course of history.
Norm Cohn ‘Warrant for Genocide’ 1970

(As referenced by Nick Cohen).

We have a deal (or bits of a deal). Bino til Dec 2020. Then the cliff?

Still a long way to go. It sounds better than it could be. But worse than it initially seems.

Tom Newton Dunn @tnewtondunn
Corbyn tells MPs Russia "bears direct or indirect responsibility" for #Salisbury. More than 100 different spy expulsions by 18 of our allies, and still he won't categorically call it a Kremlin operation.

Tom Newton Dunn @tnewtondunn
Extraordinary red on red: Labour MP John Woodcock stands to tell Jeremy Corbyn from his OWN benches that "it is just not true" he has been a critic of Russia for 20 years. Commons erupts.

Labour spokesperson Baroness Hayter is introducing an amendment to remove the exit date from the EU Withdrawal Bill, which she describes as a "straitjacket"

Conservative Baroness Wheatcroft says committing to 29 March 2019 is "slamming the stable door before the horse has even entered"

Ah, is this what Danny Finkelstein was referring to earlier?

I was so surprised by @OwenJones84 tweet about JVL because he has generally been good on anti semitism. I can see now he made an error of sharing a statement from the wrong group without checking it. I have made errors like that and it would be a shame if he took too much stick.

Ah bless you, but totally unnecessary, my mistake.

Ok. I know you can look after yourself! But as I had tweeted to my followers it wouldn’t be fair not to explain to them what had happened.

Heartening that London Mayor Sadiq Khan has acknowledged and spoken plainly against anti-semitism in Labour.

iirc, his first engagement when he became Mayor was to meet with Jewish leaders to offer support.
He's stepped up again:

http://jewishnews.timesofisrael.com/sadiq-khan-turns-up-heat-on-corbyn-labour-anti-semitism-depressing-saddening-and-unacceptable/

It is “depressing, saddening and completely unacceptable that that so many Londoners of Jewish faith have been made to feel so uncomfortable within, and alienated by, the Labour Party

There can be no hiding place for anti-semitism in the Labour Party or anywhere else in society.”

He vowed “to continue standing alongside the community to ensure they fulfil their potential and that we combat anti-semitism – whether in the Labour Party or anywhere else”.

< Sadiq is so much better a leader than any Labour MP >
