Good morning Smile

Voting to leave the European Union was a monumental decision, and one that will change the direction of our Country for decades to come.
I see that as an exciting opportunity & something to be welcomed & celebrated.

So, if you see solutions instead of problems, if you see a better future for the citizens of U.K., free from the constraints of an organisation we had no control over, then this place is for you.
Of course not everything is going to run smoothly, maybe not for years, because leaving a union drowning in red tape was never going to be easy, but we are forward thinking progressive people who know the future doesn’t just mean next week.
So, here’s to our new future,
To the future of the U.K. Wine
The countdown begins.........

If surferjet has seen the contents of the speech in advance does that mean he or she is a Conservative party employee?

Cailleach1 · 14/02/2018 08:11

into the economy post Brexit vote , that is.

Cailleach1 · 14/02/2018 08:13

Connections with Boris Johnson. That is worse than just Conservative connections.

Cailleach1 · 14/02/2018 08:16

Are there instructions like 'ruffle hair and give a cheeky schoolboy grin'. 'Spout some bollocs in Latin to to impress the masses.' As opposed to his usual bollocs in English.

surferjet · 14/02/2018 08:19

Lol, I haven’t got connections with Boris Johnson, I just thought it funny that he’s delivering a ‘look at the positives’ speech a few days after I started this thread.
But it’s true, we have to stop all the moaning about Brexit ( we’re leaving and that’s it ) so let’s be optimistic Smile

OP posts:
Bearbehind · 14/02/2018 08:31

The trouble is surfer neither, BJ nor this thread deliver any actual, tangible positives, because none of you can think of any.

It's just going to be another speech that rouses those already behind Brexit and annoys those who aren't even more.

We don't need a series of bloody aspirational speechs at this stage, see need some fucking answers.

I despair at the brainwashing that's happened here that means you are all so please to hear yet another rhetoric and bravado filled speech yet all so determined not to even acknowledge let alone come up with sensible solutions to anything remotely difficult.

PS - on reflection, neither surfer nor the other Leavers on here could have written his speech today; whilst the content will be nonsense it will be extremely articulate and well written.

Cailleach1 · 14/02/2018 08:33

Is it going to be like Norway, who are also non EU? Or Canada? That is the problem isn't it? A simple in/out vote turned out to not be so simple. No 'will of the people' reflected in the Con's decision of what it will be. Not one in a ballot box. If they are using 'vox pop', then they should use that method for exploring a whole plethora of issues. 'Do you want lower taxes? Yes. Do you want well funded public services? Yes.' Hmm.

Mistigri · 14/02/2018 08:35

Surfer, your words were "it could have been written by me". Those words contain a strong implication that you have seen the speech.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 14/02/2018 08:37

Brexit blunders on because politicians know if they throw a "positive" slogan out every few weeks enough useful idiots will be galvanized by it. So the patriotic march over the cliff continues...

surferjet · 14/02/2018 08:48

You think I’ve seen the speech?
I didn’t even know he was delivering it until 7.00am this morning!

I don’t know much about politics, ( there’s more ammunition for you Bear Wink ) but I’m pretty sure that speech would have been written weeks ago.
Although who knows? maybe Boris lurks on these threads & we’ve inspired him?

< waves to Boris >

Bearbehind · 14/02/2018 08:57

I hate to disappoint you surfer but Boris's Valentine's Day speech was announced well before you started this thread.

I'm gob-smacked by the number of Leavers who post on here despite freely admitting the don't actually read or listen to Brexit related stories. Says a lot about this clusterfuck in general doesn't it? Hmm

AgnesSkinner · 14/02/2018 09:07

ITV news are reporting in snippets of it: www.itv.com/news/2018-02-13/boris-johnson-road-to-brexit-speech/

From that report (Boris going all hard Brexity and the usual “will of the people”, “lets all pull together” shite) I can see it is going to be preaching to the converted and a massive wind up to everyone else.

The most interesting thing will be how much non PC stuff he can throw in and get away with yet again.

AgnesSkinner · 14/02/2018 09:11

BTW I think these roadshows of speeches by cabinet ministers are mere showboating in an attempt to show the cabinet is united (it obviously isn’t) and are a complete waste of time, particularly given that the clock’s ticking down rapidly.

surferjet · 14/02/2018 09:15

It was the will of the people.
Only problem is, it was the will of the you don’t like. UKIP supporters, the less well educated, the type of people you feel aren’t worthy of success or winning.
Well you were wrong, & you still can’t accept it.

OP posts:
GhostofFrankGrimes · 14/02/2018 09:21

Surfer,

the poorer folk who voted for Brexit are the ones who will be most negatively affected by it. That is what remainers have been trying to say.

Plenty of wealthy Tory voters supported Brexit too. but I suspect you've been told this countless times already.

AgnesSkinner · 14/02/2018 09:21

It was the will of the people.

As demonstrated so many times on these threads, it was the will of some of the people on one particular day over 18 months ago.

Or are you conveniently forgetting the 16.1 million that voted against it?

DGRossetti · 14/02/2018 09:23

From that report (Boris going all hard Brexity and the usual “will of the people”, “lets all pull together” shite) I can see it is going to be preaching to the converted and a massive wind up to everyone else.

It really sounds to me like Boris is trying to convince Boris that Brexit will be great.

surferjet · 14/02/2018 09:33

Or are you conveniently forgetting the 16.1 million that voted against it?

You’ve been conveniently forgetting about the 17.5 million who voted to leave since day one. Do they matter to you? these poor folk who you’re so concerned about, whilst simultaneously calling them brainwashed idiots. You couldn’t give a fuck about any of them.

OP posts:
GhostofFrankGrimes · 14/02/2018 09:38

Been trying to engage with leavers on these threads for 18 months, asking politely what they want from Brexit and how the expect it to implemented. Only response has been flags, pictures and repeat of slogans.

Perhaps you can see why remainers are a little concerned about the situation.

whilst simultaneously calling them brainwashed idiots

I can't speak for the 17 million but based on your admission that you don't know much about politics and the constant repeat of slogans-as-coherent-answers approach what conclusion would you like me to draw surfer?

AgnesSkinner · 14/02/2018 09:47

And there we have the reasoned response from surfer yet again.

Let’s turn that around to you couldn’t give a fuck about any of the 16.1 million who are being dragged into something they don’t want surfer and that will profoundly affect their lives.

The difference is you are not constantly being told to shut up, stop moaning, stop subverting democracy.

Ifailed · 14/02/2018 09:50

Whilst unhappy to concede that there are some brainwashed idiots out there on both sides, I still wonder what it is leavers are expecting to happen, and what things will look like after March 2019?

I'm afraid merely feeling that you got your own way (which I doubt many will, actually) just won't do because your actions will affect the whole 67 million who live in the UK, not just 17 million who voted to leave.

So come on, what's your hopes for the other 50 million who did not vote to leave? As a hint, Boris Johnson is not the answer.

surferjet · 14/02/2018 09:52

How will leaving the EU profoundly affect 16.1 million people?

OP posts:
GhostofFrankGrimes · 14/02/2018 09:53

job losses, loss of FOM, worse off financially, families potentially being split up, peace process in NI compromised, break up of UK. That enough for you?

Bearbehind · 14/02/2018 09:56

How will leaving the EU profoundly affect 16.1 million people?

You genuinely don't see the problem do you?

How can you be so bloody blinkered?

LondonMum8 · 14/02/2018 10:01

"the less well educated, the type of people you feel aren’t worthy of success or winning."

Yep, that's the essence of the Brexit con: telling the disadvantaged that Brexit is like their only opportunity to be a success and win in life (while in reality they will be the worst affected, unlike the 1% Brexit leadership and their chums). A truly Pyrrhic victory.

"You’ve been conveniently forgetting about the 17.5 million who voted to leave since day one."

... and you have been conveniently forgetting about the British expats and the EU citizens resident in the UK who (unlike Commonwealth citizens) were denied a vote.
