Mooser you know we are coming out, it's just how far out we go...

Moussemoose · 23/01/2018 22:06

@mummmy2017 as I've explained numerous times constitutionally we are not yet out. HoC is sovereign in the UK.

Let's wait and see - just like you keep on saying.

HangingRoundInABofAlorsStance · 23/01/2018 22:41

Wine thanks mummy kind of you x

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 23/01/2018 22:45

non binding opinion polls in what amounts to tyranny of the mob.

JWIM · 24/01/2018 09:20

what I voted for was to come out of the EU, not to have to pay ever increasing amounts to fund their runaway budget.
I got what I wanted

mummy sorry to disappoint you but the fact is at this point in time you have neither got the UK coming out of the EU*, nor have our Gov't achieved not having to pay what will be increasing amounts to the EU. Your view on the state of the EU budget is just that, a view.

*It might have a different name or acronym but SM and CU membership, paid for and with no say in the rules is the current, and only, outcome that fits with both the UK Gov't statements on the border between NI and RoI and UK wide alignment with EU regs and would also suit the EU side of the negotiating table.

What will you do if this remains the outcome of your once in a lifetime chance to vote to leave?

whooptifeckindo · 24/01/2018 09:24

But we'll have parliamentary sovereignty- as long as parliament decides to never question Brexit decisions made by the shitshow government.

OliviaD68 · 24/01/2018 09:27

Hang on all. We are saved.

Just learned that Liam Fox, in order to compensate for leaving the largest and richest free trade area on the planet, is now negotiating a free trade deal with Mongolia.

I was getting worried there for a minute.

I hope you are all reassured. We now have access to yak milk.

Mummmy: just to clarify because it's not always immediately apparent to you, the above is a sarcastic remark.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 24/01/2018 09:37

Ah, sovereignty. The sovereignty the British government admitted was never lost.

whooptifeckindo · 24/01/2018 09:41

For reasons too complicated to explain, I have an English-Mongolian dictionary. Thank goodness I kept it - my career will just blossom!

LondonMum8 · 24/01/2018 10:12

Liam Fox and Bo F. Jo keep shamelessly brainwashing the likes of m2017. It's utterly disgraceful. How can they demonstrate such utter lack of integrity and still be in public office? It's really so simple: no honest politician could promise any money unless they knew that the EU contribution won't be offset by loss of business and decrease in economic activity - and unfortunately both can and are reasonably expected for a myriad of reasons. The hit to the financial services alone will more than offset the EU contribution.

whooptifeckindo · 24/01/2018 10:15

If TM had the nerve she'd sack these idiots. There are plenty of other idiots to take their place but BJ has just broken the golden rule of collective responsibility- he should go just for that.

mummmy2017 · 24/01/2018 10:28

Did you hear Swiss are rethinking the Europe thing, and the EU are trying to blackmail them into not trading with us. Financial services...
Wonder why the Swiss are doing this.

The EU have also admitted they are WORRIED about us gaining trade deals in Financial Services, as London is a World Hub, not just an EU hub..
Maybe Boris and Fox know more than us, after all I was of the impression they work there,, not us...

whooptifeckindo · 24/01/2018 10:35

Talking in a posh voice doesn't make you smarter.

SoulStew · 24/01/2018 10:36

Why shouldn't we trade with Mongolia!? If being part of the 'biggest, richest' trade club means shitting on the smaller nations, then I'm proud to be leaving.
We (brexiteers) are always lambasted for being insular, racist, Britain-first types, but it actually looks like post brexit Britain will be a much more worldly place 😊 thanks to us!
Yak milk lattΓ¨ for me please! πŸ₯›

whooptifeckindo · 24/01/2018 10:38

Fine to trade with Mongolia but it is not a strong trading partner. And, I imagine, we already were as part of the EU trading bloc. Hey ho.

OliviaD68 · 24/01/2018 10:47

We already have one.

Official Title Agreement on trade and economic cooperation between the European Economic Community and Mongolia
Type of Agreement Bilateral
Place of Signature Luxembourg
Date of Signature 16/06/1992
Date of Entry Into Force 01/03/1993
Duration Indefinite
Objective of Agreement To establish mutual cooperation in trade and economic matters.
Remarks In 1991 Mongolia was granted preferential access to European Community markets via the Generalised System of Preferences. The two Parties accorded each other’s exports the most-favoured-nation treatment and engaged themselves to examine appropriate measures to foster trade and economic relations. The Agreement on trade and economic cooperation is a wide-ranging trade and economic cooperation agreement. Given the disparity in development levels between the parties, there is provision for financial and technical cooperation. It also includes a commitment to protect human rights (Article 1). Financial cooperation measures were carried out under the Tacis programme and, since 1994, under the ALA programme. Concluded for an initial period of 5 years and automatically renewable thereafter on an annual basis (Article 15). Joint Committee meetings in Ulaanbaatar and Brussels were agreed and have regularly taken place since then. The EU is Mongolia’s fourth trading partner, after China, Russia and the US. Copper and gold mining generate most of Mongolia’s export earnings. The major EU import commodity from Mongolia is cashmere wool and related products (mainly imported by Italy and the UK). The main EU export items are machinery, office equipment, agricultural products and chemicals, coming principally from France and Germany. The EU-Mongolia relationship has been consolidated over recent years and is set to develop further in the future, also as a consequence of the enlargement of the Union to the East. Several of the new Member States and EU Candidate Countries traditionally maintain close relations with Mongolia and are represented in Ulaanbaatar. The first ever EU-Troika mission to Mongolia on 8-9 June 2006 set another sign for the intensification of relations.

Slightly surprised to find Hedge Funds, of which we are one of the best providers are not Covered by the Passport scheme.
It seems there are quiet a lot of things in this Finance thing that London is in control of that we can't do now that we will be able to do after Brexit.
Reuters think the UK will regroup and return, Banks will change direction, and simply excel at the the profitable sectors, while new investment properties are found, it seems there is a growing request for rental space in the heartland of London Banking, as Non EU Company's don't want to be left behind..

Vacuum effect once more, something goes, something takes it's place.

OliviaD68 · 24/01/2018 10:48

Feels kinda dotardy from the ole Fox dunnit?

LondonMum8 · 24/01/2018 10:49

Mummy2017, Switzerland's financial services are in no way comparable to London's. They specialise in the private banking niche, and large Swiss banks currently still operate out of London because we are in the EU!!!

I think I have posted this before, but just so it hopefully sinks in: Swiss circumstances are vastly different. They are a very rich and relatively small country, they manage budget surpluses with ca. 10% personal tax rates. They are in no way analogous to Britain, they are not a gateway to Europe and thus they don't need the EU as much as we do.

OliviaD68 · 24/01/2018 10:52

Funds are regulated by EU regs. UCITS, AIFMD, MIFID. If we are out why do you think funds would have access to EU investors?

What can't we do now that you believe we should be looking forward to when we leave?

And why do you think London focusing on the profitable sectors -whatever these are - will make any difference if it can't sell them? Or if takes like WHT are imposed for example?

LondonMum8 · 24/01/2018 10:53

Really? Who lied to you about that?

There's EMIR too wrt the funds ...

AgnesSkinner · 24/01/2018 10:57

So we’ll be replacing the existing EU-Mongolia trade deal with one of our own? We don’t exactly export a lot to Mongolia.

OliviaD68 · 24/01/2018 10:58

Hey don't knock Mongolia. The yak milk could come in handy.

Doubletrouble99 · 24/01/2018 11:00

Very interesting Exiting the EU committee questioning DD at the moment on BBC parliament.
There is absolutely no talk of having to stay in the SM and CU in order to comply with our promise to have a frictionless border between NI and Southern Ireland. So Bearbehind how does that fit with your assentation that it won't work?

DD states that he has looked in detail at the US/Canada border which has massive trade going back and forward and how they manage this means that it takes less than a min. to process each truck. This is how he says we should manage this border.
