When is lying not lying. When you can get enough of your mates to agree it is not lying.

And so we have David Davis, who has made two statements to parliament which deliberately contradict each other and must constitute some sort of lie to parliament at some point however you cut it.

Will the Speaker risk the wrath of his party to uphold democratic values? We watch carefully.

Davis also reveals and exposes May too though. May one way or another is complicit in Davis’s lie, either through not doing her job in reading the reports or by protecting Davis when she knew the reports did not exist. This is gross misconduct in her inability to ensure her staff do their bloody jobs. All so she can keep her own job.

This is where whistleblowers in other institutions pop up.

It has also become apparent that May has not had THE conversation with the Cabinet over what shape Brexit should take. After 18months.
Why not? Is she incapable of consensus building or is she just incompetent?

And then we have the DUP seemingly not being properly being involved in the wording of the all important document.

Vote Leave’s Oliver Norgrove is perfectly right in saying that Hard Brexit is all but dead. Don’t let that make you feel happier. Hard Brexiteers know that there only option now, is No Deal and that’s what they will try and pursue.

There is no deal until everything is settled. Right now, nothing is settled, not even what the UK want out of Brexit, never mind the EU position.

May might well have blown the only opportunity for a deal too, because of her failure over NI and the DUP. Where does she go from here? The idea that she will stand up to anyone, is ludicrous given her track record.

We might all wish we could John Lennon's song was apt when it comes to this Christmas and Brexit, it seems the war for our future post Brexit, it seems it is only just starting.

@bbclaurak

  1. Hear current plan is for PM to travel to Brussels v v early in morning to see Juncker and Tusk to cross 'i's' and dot 't's, make some kind of short statement announcing agreement then be home in time for lunch, BUT

@bbclaurak
2. While I'm told DUP Westminster leadership has signed off the new proposal, the DUP Belfast leadership has not yet - so take this caveat seriously, nothing has been officially confirmed and it could yet stumble

RedToothBrush · 07/12/2017 21:54

Tom Newton Dunn @ tnewtondunn
The DUP are still holding out (as is their way). DUP source: “No deal tonight”.

Not mince pies though, I don't really like them.

I don't care much for them either, but MIL does some with frangipane toppings and they are good.

But meanwhile, back in Brexitland - I wonder if TM has told the DUP - sign up or else the bung is off?

woman11017 · 07/12/2017 22:10

@faisalislam
Sky Sources: DUP team “has more work to do tomorrow”
So I can’t see PM at that Tusk press conference now

@faisalislam
We aren’t there yet, plenty still to nail down, says another source close to talks

Good news on the Afghani translator who is now not to be deported (imagine having to celebrate non deportations in 2007, but there we are)

woman11017 · 07/12/2017 22:12

@MollyMEP
Judicial review proceedings applied for today with @JolyonMaugham. We've run out of patience with bluff and bluster. David Davis will have to explain his refusal to release the #BrexitStudies to a High Court judge. mollymep.org.uk/2017/12/07/judicial-review/

woman11017 · 07/12/2017 22:16

Sources have revealed that Brussels is willing to accept a 10 year sunset clause to end the role of European Court of Justice rulings after Brexit

In the stinky sun, so I won't post the link.

NorWoman · 07/12/2017 22:17

Xmas Hmm to Brexit shenanigans.

Star for a new thread.

NorWoman · 07/12/2017 22:19

Sorry woman11017 weird name change, first post under new name, Blush. It's female Norman thought it would be witty but probably silly Blush Thanks

woman11017 · 07/12/2017 22:24

Like it Grin NorWoman there can never be too many of us.
My 'maiden' name was as common as common can be, and I loved having an invisible name.

@faisalislam
Just asked Foreign Secretary about whether he was briefed in Cabinet sub committee about the offer on Ireland regulatory alignment, and if he is comfortable with whole UK alignment in order to keep border open...

@faisalislam
He said he wouldnt comment on or off record and Cabinet sub committees... he said whether the end deal “it has to be consistent with taking back control of our laws, borders and money” banging his fist on the podium

BigChocFrenzy · 07/12/2017 22:36

Thanks, red Flowers
I'm sure Mr Speaker will love the Venn diagram as much as I do

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 07/12/2017 22:37

Received this and thought it might be useful:

In case you missed this yesterday, we are in the final week of our fight to ensure Parliament have a meaningful vote on the final Brexit deal. This will be decided by Parliament on Wednesday (13th December). Your MPs must hear from you.

We have received an overwhelming response for this cause, but we still need more of you contacting your MPs asking them to support Amendment 7 to Clause 9 of the EU Withdrawal Bill.

Make sure that by the end of today, you have done one or more of the following:

Sign our petition urging MPs to vote for a meaningful vote.
bestforbritain.org/lucky7

Already done that? Why not check out this blog for some more ways to get active, including a template letter you can send to your local paper and a print-ready flyer to help us get the word out. blog.bestforbritain.org/index.php/2017/12/07/5-days-ensure-meaningful-vote-brexit-deal/

Best wishes,

Thanks for that pain and the rally outside HOC on Monday 11 Dec 10am to late evening is to persuade MPs to vote for meaningful vote too.

This is interesting: letter from DD
The Great Remain #FBPE‏ @TheGreatRemain
Letter from @DavidDavisMP to @Baroness_Verma dated 30th October outlining detail of analysis & listing 58 #BrexitImpactReports

It is a very detailed letter & references approaches to the analysis of the data.

Don't believe these don't exist.

www.parliament.uk/documents/lords-committees/eu-external-affairs-subcommittee/Brexit-trade-in-goods/Response-brexit-trade-in-goods.pdf

It's not that detailed, but clearly refers to detailed research on the impact of brexit on 'UK goods sectors'.

Peregrina · 07/12/2017 22:51

Signed the petition. Having got rid of our useless Tory MP, I am quite satisfied that my LibDem MP will oblige. Will it be enough? I don't know, but I know I will have done my best.

Peregrina · 07/12/2017 23:07

Also written to the Speaker.

HashiAsLarry · 08/12/2017 00:17

Was hoping to see some good news here. Needed it after listening to Ken Livingstone opine about Hitler. The most interesting thing that came from it was he essentially admitted without using the words he didn't get expelled from Labour as he knows where the dirt is. Can't really see him helping Labours cause from next March.
Anna Soubry was very entertaining and didnt hold back thankfully.

mathanxiety · 08/12/2017 00:41

Bigly, I agree that May is no Remainer.

I think she is actually a fascist. She might feel upset at that distinction but I suspect that would only be because she does not know enough of history to realise that it's not just Germans and Italians of the 1930s who can be fascists.

mathanxiety · 08/12/2017 00:59

Wrt baking in cups -
if we have to throw in our lot and be the 51st state of America it will be cups... Ugh. Fine for dry goods like flour and sugar, but fats and things?
Works perfectly. Fats weights are simply converted to volume in recipes just as dry ingredients are.

American butter and margarine come in pound weight packets with four quarter pound 'sticks' individually wrapped inside. The stick wrapping is marked off in 8 tablespoons. Each stick is a half cup, and the wrapper shows what a quarter cup and a third of a cup are too.

If you use oil or melted butter (or any other liquid) you simply measure with your set of cups or measuring spoons.

BigChocFrenzy · 08/12/2017 01:12

R North is creating links to impact assessments** - from himself plus trade associations etc - and will later have a link on his menu toolbar to them

So far, 31 sectors covered for the Uk, plus a link to the EU site for theirs

EmilyAlice · 08/12/2017 06:21

Martin Selmayr tweeting white smoke and they are eating croissants....

HesterThrale · 08/12/2017 06:21

Just heard on R4 that the DUP have confirmed the deal is now that the entire country is all leaving the SM and CU.
I guess that's why TM is on her way to Brussels.

How did we get here? Has the electorate said it wants to leave the SM? Was it in the Tory manifesto this year?

HermioneIsMe · 08/12/2017 06:27

:(:(:(
How is that going to work with NI?

HesterThrale · 08/12/2017 06:31

Must be a hard border? Unless they've thought of something v creative.

EmilyAlice · 08/12/2017 06:33

I don't think Ireland would accept that. It will be a verbal fudge to get to the next round. TM has always said the UK is leaving CU / SM. It will be a long time before we know if that is really the case.
