Brexit

Where do you realistically think we go from here?

So Amber Rudd says 'no deal is unthinkable' and David Davis says the opposite.

DD also says we'd only agree to a transition period if the terms of our deal were known before hand.

The EU are still insisting the 3 priorities are addressed before talks can move to trade so basically we're at a stand off.

Something has to give at some point.

Regardless of what you want to happen, what do you think will actually happen.

I think we will walk away from the talks, all hell will break loose when the repercussions of that come to the fore and we'll end up staying in the EU in some capacity but in a much weaker position than before.

I can empathise with Remainers though.

I'd be totally crapping myself if I thought JC was going to be the next Prime Minister of the UK, I presume this is much like how a remainer feels about Brexit.

LewisThere · 19/10/2017 14:41

Happy to see a Leaver saying they have empathy for Remainers.
Could you elaborate of what you mean by 'crapping yourself'?

Does it involve loosing everything you have (by that I mean your family and/or your job, possibly a lot of your financial protection etc...)?
Does it involve possibly having to leave your own country too?

Because if it does, you will have a very frightening view of what JC can do to the country TBH....

M4Dad · 19/10/2017 14:43

Sure, JC will turn the UK into a socialist and marxist hell hole. If he went down that path I'd leave, you fucking betcha.

woman11017 · 19/10/2017 14:53

If he went down that path I'd leave I'll get your coat, poppet.

M4Dad · 19/10/2017 14:55

Poppet!!! That's how I shall patronisingly refer to Remainers from now on, thanks for the inspiration.

Where would you go? Please keep in mind that if you only have a UK passport you're options will be much more limited unless of course you are very rich or very highly skilled. I'm neither, I won't be able to leave.

BoboEK · 19/10/2017 15:23

Can a leaver please explain the solution to the N.I / Eire situation ?

M4Dad · 19/10/2017 15:27

Fake: Would you want to leave?

I'd probably go to the Channel Islands again or Serbia.

I would then wait until JC and the marxists had been ousted and return to my beloved UK and help establish the capitalist revolution.

fakenamefornow · 19/10/2017 15:30

Fake: Would you want to leave?

No. But I would and wish I could for the sake of my children's future.

M4Dad · 19/10/2017 15:33

:(

It really doesn't bear thinking about.

Soci · 19/10/2017 15:35

I very much hope for a labour government. Gives me a bit of hope.

M4Dad · 19/10/2017 15:37

With JC and DA in charge?

woollyminded · 19/10/2017 15:47

So much posturing. So little substance.

My predictions (wild guesses) include:

Hit the end of the A20 deadline with nowt, government ridiculously weakened, tories attempt to put someone else in, doesnt go down well at all, general election then...I dunno. Hares everywhere.

Some kind of deal gets done but it's a pig's ear. Remainers (obv) don't like it, hard leavers don't like it, doesn't get through parliament so can't be enacted. Everybody points at the person opposite and says 'it's his/her fault'.

Or maybe tories put someone else in soon. EU goes 'eh? What? Who are we actually talking to here and does the stuff we've already talked about still stand?'. Bit of scrabbling around, extension on A20 deadline to line up ducks then in 2019 we're all here again having this conversation.

fakenamefornow · 19/10/2017 16:00

Can somebody put me straight on something.

WTO rules. Can we fall back on them? I've heard some talk that actually we can't as our WTO membership is tied up with our EU membership and we would be on 'third country' status.

Video by Oliver Norgrove talking about it has been removed from youtube.

fakenamefornow · 19/10/2017 16:07

M4Dad

Just to clarify. I'd like to leave the country (as many people already have) because of Brexit, not because of JC.

What would you do for a living in the Channel Islands and would you be allowed to move to Serbia? And do you know how Serbia's progress into the EU is going? Is that happening or not?

M4Dad · 19/10/2017 16:20

Fake

You think a lot of people have left because of Brexit? Wait till JC is PM.

That's if we can escape the re-education camps of course.

What would you do for a living in the Channel Islands and would you be allowed to move to Serbia

That's not really your business and yes, I could move there this evening if I wanted.

fakenamefornow · 19/10/2017 16:21

Sorry, yet another question, manly for Leavers.

If the government are forced by the court to purplish the 50+ Brexit impact studies, will you believe them to be a credible assessment of the most likely impact? If they paint a negative picture, will that change your view at all?

I will give my answer, as a Remainer and the published reports paint a positive overall future.
I would probably still want to stay unless on Leaving we still get to keep FOM and peace in NI. I have been told already that my job will almost certainly go because of Brexit, but not until we're actually out, I would be very happy and much reassured if this changed.

fakenamefornow · 19/10/2017 16:23

I could move there this evening if I wanted.

You're very lucky then and genuinely, I'm happy that you have this option.

M4Dad · 19/10/2017 16:24

Just like you could move to France if you really, really wanted too.

LewisThere · 19/10/2017 16:28

But you would be chosing to leave M4.
You wouldnt be forced to do so.
YOu wouldn't see your family split.
You wouldn't loose your pension.
Because all that would be likely to be temporary (until Labour is overturned so what 4 or 8 years?)
That's not what some Remainers who are married to EU citizens are facing.....

fakenamefornow · 19/10/2017 16:29

I've looked into it. Well Ireland. I think Ireland would be the lease likely country to boot us out post Brexit because our right to stay pre-dates the EU. Plus the language in our favor. You're right we could, if things get really desperate. Our children are now in secondary school though, we don't know anybody in Ireland, my husbands job is England and Whales only, plus further collapse of the pound would be very painful when moved to the Euro zone.

fakenamefornow · 19/10/2017 16:29

Sorry typos

fakenamefornow · 19/10/2017 16:30

I wish you well if you choose to leave, hopefully a better life awaits you. :)

LewisThere · 19/10/2017 16:32

And you have actually no idea what communism is.

The UK has been for so long governed by people from the right (I include Tony Blair in that) that you have forgotten what is socialism and communism TBH.
You are mentioning France. Well TBH, a lot of the policies defended by the right would be put squarely in the left here.
What is considered mainstream conservative right in the U.K. Is what the extreme right is defending in France (marine Lepen and so in). A party that is seen as an EXTREMIST party. One that you really don't want to see in power because they will wreck everything, like any extremist party.

Tbh on that front, I think that the IK needs to wake up. Quick.
