Brexit

Where do you realistically think we go from here?

So Amber Rudd says 'no deal is unthinkable' and David Davis says the opposite.

DD also says we'd only agree to a transition period if the terms of our deal were known before hand.

The EU are still insisting the 3 priorities are addressed before talks can move to trade so basically we're at a stand off.

Something has to give at some point.

Regardless of what you want to happen, what do you think will actually happen.

I think we will walk away from the talks, all hell will break loose when the repercussions of that come to the fore and we'll end up staying in the EU in some capacity but in a much weaker position than before.

This is exactly what my DH feels, Howabout.

RhiannonOHara · 19/10/2017 11:07

prettybird has an interesting reading of the leaked memo from German business (well, actually, German Foreign Ministry). I'd be interested to hear any other opinions on it?

MichaelFabricantsHair · 19/10/2017 11:07

Hump's got the hump Grin

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 19/10/2017 11:10

FlowerPot, perhaps you should post a short clip of you dancing a jig to convey a sense of euphoria?
Maybe that will sate Humps’s desire for ‘proof’.

Or do some side kicks & punch the air - in the style of Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins?

M4Dad · 19/10/2017 11:12

Wasn't it interesting that the EU didn't in any way shape or form condem the violence of the police during the Catalonia referendum.

This is because this is how they will deal with dissent in the future.

Humpsfor20yards · 19/10/2017 11:17

I didn't have a desire for proof- flowerpot did.

I thought there wasn't much excitement about March 2019.

Clearly the leavers I spoke to, the change in tone in the debate and the surveys I saw, were NOT representative and many leavers are still as misty eyed and jubilant as ever.

My apologies to you all.

Humpsfor20yards · 19/10/2017 11:21

I dunno why but I thought I read that you regretted your leave vote Michael

My mistake.

Humpsfor20yards

Yes you did ask for evidence.

Could you link to some celebration events, flowerpots? I'd love to go.
So no mounting excitement then? No parties or celebration events?

You have posted repeatedly that you have not seen or heard manifestations of excitement in Leavers that satisfy your benchmark of being suitably excited enough.

I give you a personal example, and you respond rudely. I ask again, what is your problem?

Bearbehind · 19/10/2017 11:53

the only comment on it from a remainer was that apparently it’s not news at all

faith the response (admittedly not from me) was that it wasn't proposing a full free trade but one based on our adherence to the regulations i.e. The 4 freedoms.

Let's see what Merkel et al actually say today and tomorrow

I stated I'd spoil my ballot paper if I had to vote again. No regret as such but dismay at how events have unfolded since the vote.

Bearbehind · 19/10/2017 11:58

The only thing dampening my Leave enthusiasm is the nagging suspicion that politicians on all sides are still trying not to

That's always been the problem though.

There has never been sufficient appetite to make robust plans which would make leaving actually work.

It's why many of us felt there was no choice but to remain because there was no sensible process for leaving.

You remind me of Homer Simpson, "if a jobs too hard to do then it's not worth doing"

Humpsfor20yards · 19/10/2017 12:03

I have apologised and I have retracted my opinion: Leavers are very, very excited about march 2019.

I apologise if my initial apology did not go far enough. To say leave voters were not excited about March 2019 was quite awful of me.

To ask for links for celebrations as evidence of mounting excitement was most unnecessary and strange.

Humpsfor20yards · 19/10/2017 12:04

So no mounting excitement Michael? Grin
Ah well.

M4Dad · 19/10/2017 12:05

Sorry, that should read "that reminds me of a quote from Homer Simpson"

prettybird · 19/10/2017 12:05

I do love the Chinese whispers. I'd love to see a link to a leaked memo from German businesses Hmm. What was posted up last night was a leaked memo from the German Foreign Ministry - not the same thing at all Confused

In fact the BDI's task force is currently preparing for a hard Brexit because of the confusion emanating from the UK and the head of the BDI warns about the ill-will towards the UK and making the point that while 7.5% of German exports go to the UK, and they were not going to piss off the other 92.5% by encouraging the EU to give the UK a preferential deal.

I have absolutely no doubt that you behave like this in real life. You must be a nightmare to be around.

M4Dad · 19/10/2017 12:09

Cold hands, Humpster?

Humpsfor20yards · 19/10/2017 12:11

Frozen, M4Dad. Grin

There's no conspiracy. I forgot my password.

Still punching those elites in the face and denying the rise of price of butter?

Soci · 19/10/2017 12:15

I think there will be some sort of half-arsed deal that leaves all sides feeling unhappy about the whole thing. UK will remain divided on the issue and the government will use that to impose more destructive policies on us, and the media will distract the general public by any means necessary. that's how it seems to be going at the moment and I don't see why it would change.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 19/10/2017 12:20

it wasn't proposing a full free trade but one based on our adherence to the regulations i.e. The 4 freedoms.

Adherence to regulations does not equal signing up to the four freedoms.

Being a member of the single market equals that, yes, but not adhering to regulations.

You are conflating two different things.

Bearbehind · 19/10/2017 12:21

You remind me of Homer Simpson, "if a jobs too hard to do then it's not worth doing"

Not at all m4 but if you fail to prepare then prepare to fail.
