surfer what are your views on Trump? What do you think of that photo of Farage fawning at him outside Trump tower? Genuinely interested.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 20/08/2017 12:03

That was a cross post faith and in no way intended for you

(Note to self....refresh thread is there for a reason)

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 20/08/2017 12:06

Lol Rufus, no offence taken at all - I just realised after reading your post that mine may have looked like I found the actual poster amusing.

I reckon he's Jean-Claude Junker, donning a leather jacket, cargo pants and biker boots, pretending to be The Terminator.

surferjet · 20/08/2017 12:23

I took down your beloved Claig and WinchesterWoman, and a few others

I was embarrassed for him there.
I think he sees this as his personal little war & is equating anonymous posters on MN to major political figures. It's just too cringe.
& he seems totally oblivious to the fact that they may well be back on MN happily keeping & low profile & better off for it. ( after all, he's been back 10 times 😂 )

He's not a great advert for the remain camp.

faith

Very easy to laugh when someone is making comments like 'taking them down'

surfer Are you going to answer my Trump question?

MichaelFabricantsHair · 20/08/2017 13:01

I hope someone can bring Trump down, I think he's vile!

MsHooliesCardigan · 20/08/2017 13:05

surfer ? I've asked quite a few times now, very politely. What is your opinion on Trump?

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 20/08/2017 13:06

Trump's a dick - I agree with Michael.

That said, he was elected fairly & democratically so I'm fine with the fact he was elected iyswim.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 20/08/2017 13:07

he seems totally oblivious to the fact that they may well be back on MN happily keeping & low profile & better off for it.

Too true Surfer - I suspect his personal victories are not all he thinks they are.

surferjet · 20/08/2017 13:31

What is my opinion of Donald Trump?

He was elected fair & square so good for him. I was pleased he won even though I disagree with a lot of what he says, but he has just as much right to be in power as anyone else. If he's what the people of America voted for then who are we to argue with it?
He's right about the extreme left being as dangerous as the extreme right, that's what I like about him, he doesn't take any crap from the left. He isn't scared of them like most politicians.

I accept Chump was elected democratically.
I don't have to like him or respect him.
I can hope for his resignation every day.
Especially after the 8 yrs of astounding lack of respect to President Obama. Those people destroyed the tradition of deference to the President.

Brexit: It's amusing to watch the "hard" Brexit being rolled back.

time4chocolate · 20/08/2017 14:12

My two penneth on Trump echoes what others have said, he got more votes, more citizens wanted him than Clinton end of.

I don't agree with a lot of what he says but a lot of people do (maybe Americans were fed up with their politicians and wanted something different and they have certainly got that!). He doesn't dress anything up or play to his party he just says what he thinks. It's what happens when you vote in a businessman not a politician.

If his Virginia rally which I caught a bit of on TV a few weeks ago is anything to go by, which was akin to teenagers at a pop concert, (and if he isn't impeached during his first year, which I don't think he will be) if I was a betting person, I would put money on him doing two terms in office Shock.

Assuming of course things haven't gone nuclear in the meantime!

lljkk · 20/08/2017 14:32

I accept the electoral college system is what it is, but Chump simply did not get more votes.
I love all the comments by people saying that they didn't find it confusing, to figure out who were Good guys & who were Bad Guys, in Raiders of Lost Ark.

mummmy2017 · 20/08/2017 14:50

I do over how you think we have been taken down, while it's Remain who have been taken down, you think you have all the answers and say everything is wrong, that we know nothing, but if Remain were so bright how come they could marshal enough information to convince even 5% of Leave to swap sides.
That means for every 20 people you only had to convince one person that your arguments were of such strength they could not be ignored.
I read that voting comes down to Emotion, and at the final point of putting pen to paper heart rules head.
Hence why sometimes the results are so shocking.

FlatPacker · 20/08/2017 15:28

Oh bleedin hell. Trump got a load less votes. He won on the electoral college. More PEOPLE voted for Hillary. I find it disgusting the vocal support for Chump that came from the Brexit camp (everyday people and the MPs we elect). It was a guileless display of "he's giving the people what they want" - shoulder shrug. All because Quiters had just won a vote the educated classes (libtards, whatever) found distasteful. Purlease. This guy is an abuser, a misogynist, a despicable excuse for a human being. I would only have respect for any Quiter to say something like "Okay, Brexit may be a display of controversial populism similar in some respects to Trump's campaign, but the bloke is just too bad for me to condone." In fact, I know an woman who voted leave - as hard a leaver as you could imagine - but she loathed Trump and I have much respect for that position.

Carolinesbeanies · 20/08/2017 15:37

Oooh, another label I can hang on my hat of shame. Yay. Grin

MichaelFabricantsHair · 20/08/2017 15:38

I voted Leave and loathe Trump and everything he stands for, why would I feel any different, he's everything that's wrong with the world. I can't stand Farage either.

Not that it matters, but my political heros are John Smith (he would have made a fantastic PM), Tony Benn and Dennis Skinner. So it gets right on my tits when it's assumed I must be a Trump fan girl, based on my referendum vote.

time4chocolate · 20/08/2017 16:28

Yup, it appears that a vote for Brexit means you are automatically a rascist and a Trump supporter and not forgetting supporters of the death penaltyShock. What a load of tosh!

Anyone who posts that sort of garbage is immediately marked down as a twat in my book.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 20/08/2017 16:31

Ah there was lots of support in the brexit arms for trump unsurprisingly.

One poster memorablyposted a clip from ranting racist's favourite milo yoannopaulis where he is arguing there's no racism in the us and political correctness gone too far etc. The poster said: 'he gets it' They name changed but I have faith they're still here.

did you agree with trumps comments at his press conference surfer? He thinks people who oppose neo nazis are extreme left - is that your thinking?

One of the joys of posting here is just when the brexiteers are getting uppity about being thought of as racist or stupid - the outrage!- a brexiteer always comes along with comments that are racist and stupid. Brilliant.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 20/08/2017 16:31

What on earth is a 'quiter'?

Is it someone who is 'quite' something?
Or uses the word 'quite' a lot?

I checked urban dictionary as well as a normal one, but alas! nothing to be found.

lljkk · 20/08/2017 16:44

Sobering thought: about 45% of eligible Americans didn't vote at all in last presidential election. What does that mean? Not much of a mandate, for sure.

MichaelFabricantsHair · 20/08/2017 16:50

Who is getting uppity and outraged, @histiny?

I just simply can't understand why Leave voters get lumped together as one, 'tis all. But it's no biggie, I sleep well at night knowing I'm not racist. A bit stupid maybe, but hey, no one is perfect

Carolinesbeanies · 20/08/2017 16:56

"Sobering thought: about 45% of eligible Americans didn't vote at all in last presidential election. What does that mean? Not much of a mandate, for sure."

Same issue for Macron. Something like 35% didnt bother in first round, soaring to 60% not bothering to vote in the parliamentarys. Somewhat eclipses the US on the apathy or silent objector front.
