You are delighted but cannot explain why other than using hyperbole and counter factual claims. Then when you can't back it up you appeal to patriotism, which of course is the last refuge of the scoundrel.

Its just hilarious watching you and others trying to explain your delight, or what you think will change, really entertaining, watching the expression of realisation on your faces when none of what you wanted to happen comes about is going to be even funnier.

LadyWithLapdog · 16/08/2017 23:44

This is fabulous, what a wind up. These leave posters aren't real. Jesus

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 17/08/2017 01:24

Dear littlebird, I can assure you that my English is just fine, in fact superior to your command.

It really isn't.

Phew, seems a tad quieter now, popping back for a night cap on my way to bed.

Valentine had a good point when she pressed for the Brexit Arms to stay open, so bearing in mind her good intentions, Im moving on to a glaring question Id like remainers to answer.....whilst theyre here Grin

Where were you when UKIP wiped the floor at the last european elections?

I cant speak for any other leave voter, but I can honestly say, I have never voted in a european election, ever. Ive never agreed with the EU. I was actively involved in the anti-Lisbon movement, and I subsequently voted out at the first chance I got.

(Remember that at the time of Lisbon, out of 150,000 polled by the Electoral Reform Service, 89% said the treaty shouldnt be approved, and 88% wanted a referendum. This wasnt some Guardian headline grabbing "of 700 people 'found' and 'polled' by some left wing think tank", this was the ERS running mini-referendums).

The utter apathy to european elections, Id always assumed, were indeed the silent 89%. Our objection, was shown by abstaining from the ballot box. (Clearly some enjoyed the irony of having a UK Independance representative sitting in Brussels...scratch that...Ive enjoyed the irony of having UKIP in Brussels, but thats been a pleasing side effect, not an aim)

Roll forward to 2016. Brexit. Half the nation are bereft. But where have you been remainers? What were your reasons for refusing to vote on so many previous occasions?

When someone finally starts writing the history of this period, surely that question has to be the first one that needs answering?

Anyway, hoping tomorrow is a sunny day, I note the CJEU has thrown out the Canada/EU Data sharing deal this week, by, wait for it, enforcing the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights...........
Hope no one spent too much on all those so called negotiation experts. Bit of a sting in the tail there.

littlebird I totally agree that Brexit is history in the making. It's just that some of us think that it will go down in history as one of the most catastrophic decisions ever.
For me, one of the most ironic things about Brexit is the way that Jacob Rees-Mogg (aka the poshest man in Britain), Nigel Frottage (Dulwich College, ex banker) and Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson have been embraced as men of the people taking on 'the elite'. They are the fucking elite.

bathildabagshot1 · 17/08/2017 04:59

"What were your reasons for refusing to vote on so many previous occasions?"

You'll find that remainers tend to be the ones that voted, the unusually lage turnout of voters swung it to leave as there were many that had not voted in a long time, coming out to "kick the establisjment" and vote against immigration.

UKIP didn't wipe the floor with any european election, they won seats because of proportional representation.

A spell caster you say charity?
You are certainly in the right place.

Did the person who wrote 'here, here' and 'Ching, ching' suggest that someone else'english was poor? Really?

Bearbehind · 17/08/2017 07:46

I'm also Shock that the same person also said 'data was a 1980s word'

Who knew!

InfiniteSheldon · 17/08/2017 07:59

Nothing changes in here I see

Mummy - this thread once again is playing out like ALL the others. Faith summed it up nicely 'This is what they do, blow the whistle, assemble the clique & gang up on one poster - nasty bullies one & all 'tis boring, circular and a tad pathetic in my opinion.

I'm putting a nice selection of grips behind the bar if anyone wants one - because I am a nice person they are free so just help yourself!

Nice to have you back Smallfox

histinyhandsarefrozen · 17/08/2017 08:06

Smallfix is back, touting spellcastors? Shock
unlikely.

Bearbehind · 17/08/2017 08:07

What is boring and tedious is the absolute predictability of Leavers arguments

  • make a point
  • get challenged on it
  • fail to provide a balanced response so revert to 'we won you lost, get over it'
  • other leavers turn up and cry 'bully'

It's completely in line with the lack of progress on Brexit that there's such a lack of progress on here too.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 17/08/2017 08:17

You don't think: 'I had a feeling, it'll be worth it in the end, gah immigrants, get a grip,' Constitutes powerful political arguement?!?! Shock

MsHooliesCardigan · 17/08/2017 08:22

Mummmy I completely agree with your 18.36 post and am very worried about our young people's future. However, the things you mention- zero hours contracts, house price inflation and wage stagnation have absolutely NOTHING to do with the EU. I believe that workers' rights will be eroded yet further if we leave.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 17/08/2017 08:22

We looked and read things, then this great longing inside us of took over, this feeling, this need to do the right thing over came us all too such an extent that well we ticked a box. Hoping against hope that others of our kind were wiling to take a chance on the UK that once was great still had breathe left in it to kick and scream to drag it's self till it stood proud and strong, to take our loved and return it.

So beautiful. So deep. Reminds me of one of Martin Luther kings speeches, or Churchill or Elizabeth 1st if you prefer. We should print this out, put it on walls, furniture, calendars, screen savers, a reminder of what leavers did for us.

It's fabulous, isnt it? I'm doing a module on rhetoric as part of my MA next term. I will definitely be using this as an example. It could have been written by one the greats. Trump, for example. Especially that last 'sentence'.

Carolinesbeanies · 17/08/2017 09:20

Bathilda, youre still not answering. I was talking european elections, as you know. (Referendum turnout was one of the highest at 72%. Wine We're all agreed on that)

Why didnt you vote in european elections? PR is no excuse. UKIP won more votes than any other political party. A staggering result if the remain debate is to be believed.
Where was the now bereft 'voice' thats been so influential in Brussels, (allegedly)? Its a vitally important question when using a 'sheep' argument against voters. Its a vitally important question when remainers complain they now feel their views are 'ignored'.

Mshoolies, you are a tad confused. (Though its understandable) The leave vote didnt embrace any elite. If anything its quite the opposite, and its upset a lot of people...apparently. Grin
Are you confusing a general election where we do vote for 'people'?

GhostofFrankGrimes · 17/08/2017 09:52

The leavers were played by the elite. Someone suggested Brexit was a Trojan horse for elites to turn UK into a low wage tax haven. Sounds about right.

TheElementsSong · 17/08/2017 09:53

The atmosphere in this pub certainly bodes well for the future.

Carolinesbeanies · 17/08/2017 09:55

Bear, because we do show you. You ignore judges, scrutiny committees, parliamentary papers. You ignore the Lisbon Treaty (across europe) as well the rejection of Lisbon (which I assume in remainer land wasnt racist? But Brexit is?). You ignore the fundamental fact that we all voted as we did in the referendum, because we were legally entitled to. You ignore that we are also, all, entitled to keep our vote and our reasons private.

Yet here we are. Hunted down in the Arms, because of some misplaced entitlement, remainers believe they have, to demand justification from a voter, and some 'right' they now have to harangue and abuse a voter. In RL, its illegal.
That is why you are doomed to failure bear, because your fundamental reasoning is wrong. All voters did was execise their right to be heard at a ballot box. Any further questions about implementation etc that concern you, I suggest you write to your MP and MEP. Thats what they are there for.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 17/08/2017 10:03

We heard the leavers. The government are trying to implement what they believe leavers want. It is proving unworkable and very damaging to the economy and UKs long term future. As remainers pointed out.

If this upsets leavers here tough. It is reality. Brexit is unworkable.

howabout · 17/08/2017 10:30

Good interview with ROI foreign minister (I think?) on Newsnight last night. Sounding pretty positive about the UK Government position papers. Good balanced programme in stark contrast to all the stuff in the papers about back door border entry - Carol and Stig were beyond ridiculous on both sides of the debate on the Sky newspaper review - largely given up reading the papers so they may have been doing a decent job of reflecting the print media however ridiculous.

Carolinesbeanies · 17/08/2017 10:43

Im certainly not upset Ghost. Youre in the Brexit Arms here, champagne all round Grin
