Petition to rescind Article 50

Just got an email from Avaaz with a link to a petition:

secure.avaaz.org/campaign/en/no_deal_no_brexit_loc/?cNWBamb

"The government called an election to get a massive mandate for hard Brexit, but instead, it lost its majority. Now, as the French and German governments have confirmed that the UK can reverse Article 50, and it becomes clear that a ‘no deal’ Brexit would have devastating consequences for Britain, we call on you to commit to rescinding Article 50 if we fail to reach a deal with Europe."

I know a lot of people, including DF, who voted for Brexit but now regret that decision. Even the most positive amongst them say that they wish we could just stop the madness now.

I think you are right ever.

I have yet to hear a single brexiter properly outline what will replace the fairly massive holes in our economy (from financial services, sci and tech, pharma, manufacturing, universities) left by a hard Brexit.

Etaina · 20/06/2017 20:36

I agree Bolshy and although I don't think that it was stupid to vote leave a year ago, I think it would be pretty stupid to vote leave now. Nobody seems to be talking about the utopian future that they seemd to envision last year, now it's all just damage limitation.

It has me a little. If nothing else giving my kids FOM. Also making plans to get a little place abroad if we can afford it. Just in case. Hmm

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 20/06/2017 20:38

And remainers who have changed their minds pah! Accepted the situation yes many have. Changed their view on how they voted nope

Etaina · 20/06/2017 20:39

Maybe you should get the place overseas sooner rather than later ever before the pound drops even more!

Great that the petition is up to 108,000 woman12345!

Hopefully where we are looking it shouldn't be as much of an impact...not in EU! But yes before the full Brexshit...if I could now I would

Peregrina · 20/06/2017 20:50

Why you wonder, if Brexit is so wonderful, and May has made such a mess of things in recent weeks, are no Tories lining up for a leadership challenge? Don't tell me that BoJo no longer wants to be leader? No, only when things are sorted out (which might be too late for him.)

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 20/06/2017 20:57

I dont know anyone who has changed their mind either way

And i really don't understand how someone could vote remain, see everything that followed and no think that they should have voted leave

I absolutely understand someone voting leave and still thinking that its worth it

Figmentofmyimagination · 20/06/2017 21:48

Recognising that a decision was stupid, or foolish, economically suicidal or however you want to frame it, is not the same as suggesting that people are stupid.

CrossWordSalad · 20/06/2017 22:43

Good grief, more than 12 months later and still on leave voters didn't know what they were voting for and made a stupid choice (but of course that's not calling them stupid Hmm).

God help this country.

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 20/06/2017 22:55

Cross It is possible to make a stupid decision and not be stupid

CrossWordSalad · 20/06/2017 23:08

Gosh, we've moved such a long way. Leave voters aren't stupid, they've just been stupid. Fab. Keep up the division and denigration of people who disagree with you, anyone who feels that way inclined. Just what the country needs. Brilliant.

Bolshybookworm · 21/06/2017 06:19

They haven't been stupid, they've been hoodwinked. I am pretty concerned about what will happen when our country plunges into it's inevitable next recession and people realise just how much of an impact Brexit will have. The lack of honesty from members of the government will put us in a dangerous place.

Bolshybookworm · 21/06/2017 06:23

Also, brexiters need to bloody well move on and look at the damage that has already been done to our country. Burying your heads in the sand and shouting "WILL OF THE PEOPLE, ITS ALL GOING TO BE AMAZING" is not going to help us when the economy goes tits up and the jobs leave.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 21/06/2017 06:40

With all due respect I don't think you'd require a PHD in economics to understand leaving the biggest trading in the world with only some vague notion of what would replace it is a tad naieve.

I've burnt my lovely house down but don't worry i can live anywhere now. Hmm

Peregrina · 21/06/2017 06:48

Why aren't the Brexiteers displaying their anger against BoJo, Gove, Leasdom? All still in Government and all so far noticeably failing to list tangible benefits, either silent or mouthing platitudes about how wonderful it will be. Or Gisela Stuart who cleared off promptly and Farage who has been pretty quiet since an initial flirtation with Trump came to nothing much, but threatening violence if he doesn't get his way.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 21/06/2017 07:01

Well if the Brexit arms is anything to go by Brexit is merely symbolic. That is it. Whatever happens next is somebody elses problem.

Clalpolly · 21/06/2017 07:38

The government is faking it to make it. This is negotiation posturing. Of course they know what a shit fest this is.

Peregrina · 21/06/2017 08:16

Which is why they haven't rushed forward to replace May.

Carolinesbeanies · 21/06/2017 10:00

"Well if the Brexit arms is anything to go by Brexit is merely symbolic. That is it. Whatever happens next is somebody elses problem."

LOL. Its someone elses problem as long as its only the pro-eu narrative and remainer shrills that are listened to. Which is clearly the current case.
But crack on, youre clearly being heard and its all going swimmingly well. Hmm
I for one, am simply having a quiet beer in the sunny beer garden at the moment whilst the political establishment implodes, entirely of its own making. The clock keeps on ticking.

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 21/06/2017 10:19

Bit early for a beer? Would explain a lot. Or even more if it turns out you are not even in the UK?

GhostofFrankGrimes · 21/06/2017 11:25

It isn't going swimmingly, which is the problem as people's livelihoods are at stake.

I think wetherspoons opens at 7am

Carolinesbeanies · 21/06/2017 12:06

Well done Ghost. Youve got the sarcasm.

Evers, I know you love your conspiracy theories lol.
Ive only got one passport, Her Majs' UK one, have you?

Carolinesbeanies · 21/06/2017 13:09

By the way OP, you do know Avaaz is George Soros?
