Remainers - What do you want? When do you want it?

We had the referendum, we had the legal challenge, we had the Supreme Court ruling, Article 50 has been triggered. The United Kingdom will no longer be part of the European Union.

So my questions to Remainers are
What do you want? When do you want it?

Here's what I want..

I want the negotiations to go well. I want future relations with our neighbours to be cordial. I want a good deal for UK and the EU. I want us to walk away if their demands are unacceptable (and stem from vindictiveness and to deter other members from following our lead). I want the UK to be free to make good trade deals with any country it wants. I want the UK to lead in creating a new model of trade without excessive interference in each partner's social and political arena.

"You have repeatedly said WW2 could have been won without the UK .If that isn't denigrating the contribution of the almost half a million British men, women and children who gave their lives what the fuck is it? "

But I didn't say that did I, it was in response to a hypothetical question you asked, which you are then desperately twisting to fit your agenda.

"You have repeatedly gone about downplaying the suffering of cities like Coventry"

No, I said that British cities didn't suffer on the same scale as some of those in Europe, which they didn't, I didn't downplay the suffering of British cities at all.

"No wonder you did such a great job winning the support of ordinary British people in the referendum."

Well if we were so terrible how come it was so close?

optionalrationale · 17/04/2017 14:28

Rufus
Your pal Danny has repeatedly said that Russians and the US could have defeated Germany without us - including making reference to military operations such as "Torch" - which (apparently) now could have been achieved without any British help whatever

You are both aggressive and misinformed, optional. When you learn to write politely I might engage, but for the moment enjoy your attachment to your fury. Perhaps it's better you're writing it here than elsewhere.
Toodle pip. And peace Smile

Ah, because arguing about hypothetical situations regarding WW2 has made you so?

JassyRadlett · 17/04/2017 14:40

I am affronted by some Remainers here equating a declaration of war in thr face of Fascist onslaught against a European neighbour as "starting it".

It is phrases like "We started it" (used repeatedly by Rufus and Danny) that make me see how desperate some Remainers appear to be to blame and denigrate Great Britain (even in our fight against Fascism).

Why on earth are you putting such a negative spin on that? Why not be proud that we started the war?

Britain, France and their allies decided in September 1939 that enough was enough. That they would brook no more expansionism and provocation. That despite recent experience of a devastating war, the sacrifice was worth it to stop Hitler.

There was a choice. Not following through on our treaty obligations. Opting for neutrality (such as the Dutch did).

The Allies made the harder, braver choice. They made the choice to start a war they knew could be devastating and long-lasting, because it was the right thing to do in the circumstances.

Acknowledging that isn't denigrating it. It's the opposite. Acknowledging that we had a choice, and chose war, and that it was absolutely the right thing to do.

It denigrates the sacrifice to pretend that the war was inevitable, and our involvement was inevitable.

Bringmesunshite · 17/04/2017 14:46

It restores my faith in human nature to see some Remain supporters posting like idiots. I thought that was the exclusive domain of some Leave voters.

I voted Remain fwiw. Still would if the vote was tomorrow.

optionalrationale · 17/04/2017 14:47

Some Remainers clearly think it is THE winning argument. NO wonder Coventry voted so decisively to Remain..."Clearly, we didn't suffer as much as Warsaw...well that's me convinced, I'm definitely for staying in. Why had no one made this very cogent point to me before??"
