Brexit

Remainers - What do you want? When do you want it?

optionalrationale · 08/04/2017 07:48

We had the referendum, we had the legal challenge, we had the Supreme Court ruling, Article 50 has been triggered. The United Kingdom will no longer be part of the European Union.

So my questions to Remainers are
What do you want? When do you want it?

Here's what I want..

I want the negotiations to go well. I want future relations with our neighbours to be cordial. I want a good deal for UK and the EU. I want us to walk away if their demands are unacceptable (and stem from vindictiveness and to deter other members from following our lead). I want the UK to be free to make good trade deals with any country it wants. I want the UK to lead in creating a new model of trade without excessive interference in each partner's social and political arena.

"It appears that you don't understand basic points, if Britain declared war on Germany, not the other way around, officially Britain started the war"

Thank you. Genuinely. Thank you.

officially Britain started the war

And I'm not taking any project fear or personal insult answers, I want to know how Brexit Britain is going to work as a functioning solvent egalitarian democracy.

Dannythechampion · 16/04/2017 22:11

Officially it did though.

Who declared war on who is the "official" bit, now the reasons why, and whether this was correct is a different matter. But officially it did.

You really are funny aren't you.

JassyRadlett · 16/04/2017 22:14

Exactly what were you taught on this topic? Where?

Quite a lot, actually (how exact do you want me to be?), and have read much more in a non-academic context, but it goes back to my question to you about Versailles and its impacts.

I'm an immigrant from Australia, I've studied history in a couple of places. But the first time I discussed this idea in an academic context was the middle years of secondary school. It's a pretty mainstream idea.

QuentinSummers · 16/04/2017 22:14

woman you know there is no answer to that. The only way brexit can be a success is via the power of positive thinking, if it fails it's the fault of the remain "camp" Grin
It's OK though, forecasts show we should be better off by 2053. I'm happy things should pick up by my children's 50s.

optionalrationale · 16/04/2017 22:15

Danny
I noticed you avoid my question asking if you work for one of the German banks or multinational companies like BMW

OP posts:
RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 16/04/2017 22:18

Thats the bit that depresses me quentin

Better off by 2053!!!

Smile
QuentinSummers · 16/04/2017 22:18

You sound very xenophobic optional. It's all a bit odd Confused why does it matter who danny works for?

Kaija · 16/04/2017 22:19

"but I feel like he/she is latching onto this diversion like a dog with a bone to distract from the clusterfuck that is Brexit which was the question he/she originally asked."

For sure, but this in itself speaks volumes about Brexiteers' inability to find anything concretely positive about Brexit now.

QuentinSummers · 16/04/2017 22:21

It is an absolute cluster fuck. Tossers saying that if you point that out you want it to fail are either stupid, deluded or rich enough and old enough not to be bothered by the country going down the toilet. But at least we won't have to pretend to be friends with the Germans or the french eh?

Dannythechampion · 16/04/2017 22:22

"I noticed you avoid my question asking if you work for one of the German banks or multinational companies like BMW"

If I did what difference would it make?

Pray tell.

optionalrationale · 16/04/2017 22:25

Danny
You are an absolute joy (much like Rufus)

Your words
"Who declared war on who is the "official" bit, now the reasons why, and whether this was correct is a different matter. But officially it did"

I will ask you the same questions as I asked Rufus (which she studiously avoided).

  1. Who started the war between Germany and Poland?
  2. Who started the war between Germany and Czechoslovakia?
  3. Who started the war between Germany and The Netherlands (a neutral country)?
  4. Who started the war between Germany and Belgium?
  5. What do you think the Europe and the world of today would be like had not Great Britain "started" the war?

"Today 22:22 Dannythechampion

"I noticed you avoid my question asking if you work for one of the German banks or multinational companies like BMW"

Why are you avoiding the question?

OP posts:
Dannythechampion · 16/04/2017 22:30

Because I don't see that its relevant and I'm interested to know why you do.

As to your other questions, they aren't relevant if we are talking about the war between Germany and the UK, are they?

"What do you think the Europe and the world of today would be like had not Great Britain "started" the war"

Its impossible to say, but the likelihood is that the Germans and Japan would have been defeated without us anyway.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 16/04/2017 22:31

Ok going to take me some time

Germany didnt delare war against poland....they invaded them

Germany declared war against the netherlands in may 1940

I dont know about the others but i can google if you would like me to

A number of times i have said that britain did the right thing in invading

jassy said it as well

I think others may have

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 16/04/2017 22:32

Sorry not invading

Getting my invasions confused

Declared war

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 16/04/2017 22:36

Britain stood up for its allies and stood up for right by declaring war on an increasingly expansionist Germany?

jassy said the above

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 16/04/2017 22:37

Sorry mrshoolie

Sad

I forgot

optionalrationale · 16/04/2017 22:38

Danny
Your wonderful, wonderful words (thanks again)
" the likelihood is that the Germans and Japan would have been defeated without us anyway"

You should make sure you stand up and say that at the next Rememberance Day service for the almost half a million men and women who gave their lives in the fight against Nazism

OP posts:
Dannythechampion · 16/04/2017 22:42

Ah see you asked a question, and I gave you the answer, did I at any point say that going to war was the wrong thing for the UK to do?

Dannythechampion · 16/04/2017 22:44

In fact no one on this thread has said that, you keep trying and failing to imply that people have.

Anyone else reading this independently is able to see that, and your desperation to twist people's words.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 16/04/2017 22:45

It wasnt the right answer danny

Dannythechampion · 16/04/2017 22:49

Ah of course not.

Optional seeing as your historical knowledge is rather lacking I'd advise you to go read up a bit before attempting to hound people on here

optionalrationale · 16/04/2017 22:49

Rufus
I will ask you for a third time,

What do you think the Europe and the world of today would have been like if Great Britain had not "officially and technically" started the war?

Note I am asking what you think.

OP posts:
optionalrationale · 16/04/2017 22:52

Danny
I am not twisting your words at all, in fact, each time I am directly copying and pasting what you said.

So... again...your own words
the likelihood is that the Germans and Japan would have been defeated without us anyway

By whom?
