Brexit

So the good times are about to roll....are they?

I wanted to ask on another thread, but they are all bunfight-y.

I am a remainer so I feel very depressed about today. I would like some reassurance from brexiters about what I have to look forwards to.

I'm afraid 'taking back control' isn't clear enough to me, so an explanation of what will be different if that's the theme you will go for.

So far, since the vote, my family has lost £10,000s and my husband's current job/role has been placed in jeopardy. I have probably lost the ability to automatically continue to work in an EU country in under 2 years time (I currently live in Germany, though this was intended to be temporary). I have dear friends relocating out of London since the banks are shifting jobs due to Brexit so I'm not sure who I would be moving back to. My house is worth less and I'm less likely to be able to sell it if I do want to move. I'll need to get the kids Irish passports if I want them to benefit from the EU.

So cheer me up - we're set for a brighter future aren't we? What can I look forwards to?

You want an informed choice on 12,000 pieces of legislation?! You've certainly got a lot more time than me Grin

Kaija · 02/04/2017 19:10

" dont know, but I would like them to be on the table and debated by the UK so I can"

And that is exactly what isn't going to happen. Unless you are imagining this process to take about 200 years.

That is exactly what I want, and it is happening, I am not alone. We dont need to have a say on all 12000 pieces or however many of legislation we just need the highlights so we can elect MP's who's job it is to decide on the specifics of the legislation. It might ten years but it will leave the UK a better place for my grandchildren.

Front page of the express today says we're getting blue passports back! How wonderful! The future tastes bright already!

I agree, the does indeed taste bright already. I welcome the old blue passport. Why do you hate your country so much?

woman12345 · 02/04/2017 19:22

Is the pay good?

woman12345 · 02/04/2017 19:23

Whoops, wrong thread.

Bearbehind · 02/04/2017 19:24

user why do you extrapolate the fact someone has no desire to change the colour of their passport to assuming they 'hate' this country.

This kind of nonsenscial, emotive bollocks is, at best ridiculous, at worst, dangerous.

squishysquirmy · 02/04/2017 19:25

Love the idea that so many people voted leave because they didn't like other people "shouting them down" over the internet! Grin Thanks, I was feeling a bit down and needed a laugh.
Despite being a remain voter, I have a higher opinion of the majority of leave voters than that.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 02/04/2017 19:28

They dont bear

They are either shit stirring or hard of thinking

gobberz · 02/04/2017 19:30

I agree, the does indeed taste bright already. I welcome the old blue passport. Why do you hate your country so much?*

I very much doubt the things I love about this country are the same things you love. That's why patriotism is bollocks.

Bolshybookworm · 02/04/2017 20:03

Whilst I might not hate my country, I'm extremely embarrassed by it right now. Trashing our economy and international reputation so we can change the colour of our passport- genius Hmm

Also, we DID vote in people who looked at the EU laws and regulations. Have you all forgotten about MEPS? What makes you think the MPs in Westminster will be any better than those in the European Parliament? Considering what a complete balls up they're making of Brexit, I have zero faith in the current government to make either reasoned or "informed by the daily mail" decisions on the laws of our land.

Tanith · 02/04/2017 20:06

Can't we just issue a colour-in version so people can choose the colour they like?
Supplied with free crayon of colour choice (nothing sharp, mind!).

squishysquirmy · 02/04/2017 20:11

Yes, Bolshy. But apparently, those who couldn't be arsed to vote in the European election felt terribly disenfranchised.

I like Tanith's idea. Grin

TheElementsSong · 02/04/2017 20:19

Blue passport = love country

Maroon passport = hate country

?Confused?

Bolshybookworm · 02/04/2017 20:29

I'm going for pink leopard print then, Tanith Grin

Bolshybookworm · 02/04/2017 20:29

And by pink I mean neon!

Peregrina · 02/04/2017 20:30

We could change the colour of our passports now. Croatia is in the EU and, shock horror, has blue passports. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) recommends the size, so we are not likely to go back to the old size. Maybe we should fall out with ICAO also, so that we can really go back to the old passports. Oh, and have black and white photos only.

lalalonglegs · 02/04/2017 20:33

I would prefer black and white photos - much more flattering.

PoundlandUK · 02/04/2017 20:38

If Tanith is throwing in a handful of gold star stickers with the crayons then I'm also in Grin

OhtoblazeswithElvira · 02/04/2017 20:38

I welcome the old blue passport. Why do you hate your country so much?

This is totalitarianism. Criticise your Soviet factory uniform or try to get a non-authorised-hairdo in North Korea and you get asked "why do you hate your country so much", labelled an enemy of the people and whisked away to a re-education facility where you have to work for your keep. Thank God we have the Daily Mail to tell us what to do and think in every aspect of our lives.

Seriously now, user, that made me laugh Grin

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 02/04/2017 20:40

Actually i dont mind the maroon colour

I just preferd the hard back version, seemed more expensive

And the amount you pay for the bloody thing i would at least want it to appear expensive

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 02/04/2017 20:41

I dont want to colour in in

The picture looks like it might be too fiddly and i have no patience

fakenamefornow · 02/04/2017 20:41

I dont know, but I would like them to be on the table and debated by the UK so I can make an informed choice

What do you think about WTO rules Anon I don't think we had much say in them. Also international treaties etc? Even things like Blue Badges for disabled parking that are subject to international agreement?

frumpet · 02/04/2017 20:42

Perhaps when we all hand in our EU licence plates , as decreed by the European transport commission we could pick up our snazzy blue passports Grin

frumpet · 02/04/2017 20:43

Rufus tsk , it would be a 'mindful' colouring in passport obvs !
