We have heard much talk about "the will of the people" recently. If you are not one of the people supporting the Tory hard Brexit or "Brexit at any cost", you may be interested in "Stop the silence", which gives a voice to the rest of us - those who voted Leave thinking of a Norway-style model, those who thought they were saving the NHS, those who voted Remain. Please like on FB and re-tweet.

That was my understanding too, Peregrina. I don't think the EU are in a position to guarantee anything re the status of non-EU citizens in EU countries.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 01/03/2017 20:39

The UK government caused this so perhaps they could take the moral high ground re: EU citizens/Brits abroad by confirming residency rights. Or perhaps the leave campaign could have explained there would be a period of "limbo" that we have now.

Anon1234567890 · 01/03/2017 20:46

we have heard little of any sense from the twerps in charge of Brexit

aka, they are not saying anything I agree with so I will just blow raspberries and waggle my fingers.

What is the point in wasting 2 years trying to negotiate staying in the single market when the EU has made it blatantly clear they will not accept us controlling our own borders or making our own trade deals (among other things). TM is being very pragmatic and honest, would you rather she lied and said after 2 years oh well EU says no to us in a single market and we have no more time to do a deal.

YERerseISootTHEwindy · 01/03/2017 20:48

I agree anon

Mistigri · 01/03/2017 20:51

The EU has no competence over immigration law covering non-EU citizens in member states, this is a matter for national governments.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 01/03/2017 20:52

aka, they are not saying anything I agree with so I will just blow raspberries and waggle my fingers.

They haven't said anything beyond soundbites. Hard Brexit would be disastrous for the UK.

YERerseISootTHEwindy · 01/03/2017 20:54

Pmsl... waggling fingers like it haha!

Can I blow raspberries and waggle my fingers while swinging my imperial dick (as was suggested earlier)please anon.

Kaija · 01/03/2017 20:55

"You are sabotaging your own country, because you would rather it went the other way."

On the contrary, a hard Brexit would be the greatest act of self-sabotage any of us have seen in our lifetimes. We just want to mitigate the damage as far as possible.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 01/03/2017 21:00

misti

You might need to yell

They are too busy waggling their fingers Smile

woman12345 · 01/03/2017 21:01

The UK collectively

What's the point of brexit if it's not united? Another Scottish independence vote will go 'yes' and NI elections are already re opening very dangerous wounds.

London will be all right, the tax free oligarchs will carry on using it as a money laundering service, but the other (EU subsidy receiving) countries and regions won't

woman12345 · 01/03/2017 21:03

keen to do the right thing international trade negotiations don't operate on rules of morality.

woman12345 · 01/03/2017 21:05

TM is being very pragmatic and honest Grin

[ brew] rufus?

Peregrina · 01/03/2017 21:08

TM is being pragmatic - oh yes. How can I further my career is her bottom line. Honest? Well, it's not my idea of honesty - say one thing and do the opposite.

YERerseISootTHEwindy · 01/03/2017 21:09

I am confident that money will be distributed by the British government to make up for many of the losses of subsidies. Once nicola gets it she will probably spend it on fancy cars and unicorns though. Sod the people of scotland.

I feel sorry for Northern Ireland in general to be honest. For all nicola sturgeon banging on NI is the one that shold be complaining if anyone is. I hope TM comes up with something good for them.

Peregrina · 01/03/2017 21:11

I am confident that money will be distributed by the British government to make up for many of the losses of subsidies.

Only where they are trying to buy a few votes. They have already told Cornwall and Wales that they can get stuffed.

YERerseISootTHEwindy · 01/03/2017 21:12

They are always shot to Cornwall and Wales.

YERerseISootTHEwindy · 01/03/2017 21:13

Very shit indeed. If Scotland think they have got it bad then they should try being from Cornwall.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 01/03/2017 21:13

Thanks woman Brew

The EU has no competence over immigration law covering non-EU citizens
But it does have competence over the half a billion in the EU and the millions that might join it in the future. A massive reason for the Brexit vote.

Hard Brexit would be disastrous for the UK
And yet we still voted to leave, the die is cast.

They haven't said anything beyond soundbites
aka They are not saying what I want them to say...

a hard Brexit would be the greatest act of self-sabotage any of us have seen in our lifetimes
Or not.

Another Scottish independence vote will go 'yes' and NI elections are already re opening very dangerous wounds
NS is going to have another indy ref no matter what, and all the polls show she will lose it. NI elections have nothing to do with Brexit they are more than capable of destroying peace all by themselves. Correlation not causation.

Can I blow raspberries and waggle my fingers while swinging my imperial dick
OMG that is hilarious, lmfao. Can we have a pic?

woman12345 · 01/03/2017 21:15

The cruel irony of just one aspect of this fiasco is the places that voted in the highest numbers to leave, (for completely understandable but tricked reasons) are the ones who are in the most dire need of the EU subsidies they will no longer receive.

On tricked reasons, why wasn't £65b to leave on the buses, paid for by very mysterious sources, rather than the £350million NHS lie?

GhostofFrankGrimes · 01/03/2017 21:16

I cannot wait for the Tories to throw money around like confetti at the Northern brexit voting towns. With a click of the fingers the manufacturing base destroyed by the Tories in the 80's will return to.

Yes, it good to see that the unicorn fantasy is still alive and kicking.

YERerseISootTHEwindy · 01/03/2017 21:18

Tried to take pic... accidentally broke the lens with my giant swinging imperial dick. Grin

woman12345 · 01/03/2017 21:21

NI elections have nothing to do with Brexit they are more than capable of destroying peace all by themselves. Correlation not causation
.
Breakdown of Good Friday agreement has everything to do with brexit actually anonymous. Not least because of duplicitous and unethical funding of leave campaign siphoned through DUP ( Bannon's buddies) .
So yes it does have everything to do with brexit.

There was not going to be another referendum in Scotland because NS knew she'd lose, pre brexit.

May, however will achieve what 300 years of English oppression had thus far failed to do and Scotland will absolutely vote to leave the union.

woman12345 · 01/03/2017 21:22

Is this shift nearly finished?

GhostofFrankGrimes · 01/03/2017 21:24

aka They are not saying what I want them to say...

I expect reason and considered opinion from politicians but then those happy with "brexit means brexit" probably believed the £350 million lie on the side of a bus.

NI elections have nothing to do with Brexit they are more than capable of destroying peace all by themselves.

There has been relative peace in NI for 15 years. Brexit risks that but I doubt English leavers gave it a second thought which is why concerns about preserving the union are laughable.
