MrExit Every time I drive up Arts-Loi, I look for the new building, but all I see is a load of scaffolding. I must get dh to park and go and have a closer look.

As for the EU Army, no-one has yet defined what is meant by this. It could be closer collaboration defence wise between EU member states, who also happen to be NATO nations. Thus, one set of national forces, who are then 'loaned' to the EU, as they are to NATO, but with the national interest being overriding. So, if we loan a frigate to NATO, or the EU, it is still ours, with another flag flying alongside the White Ensign. The EU claimed that it ran Op Atalanta (the anti piracy op off Somalia). To do so, the EUMS 'borrowed' HQ space at Northwood, which is one of our bases, which we also share with NATO as part of our maritime contribution to the Alliance, as the EUMS didn't have the capacity to run the Op without piggybacking on NATO and UK resources.

If by an EU Army it is meant that the EU will stand up its own Armed Forces, loyal to the EU, then that is alarming. However, they don't have the money to do it. The member states are reluctant to commit more to defence, God knows, NATO has a hard enough time screwing the 2% of GDP out of the NATO nations who are also EU member states (with a couple of exceptions), so where will the dosh come from? The Dutch are firmly against an EU Army in whatever form, and why try to duplicate what already exists in NATO anyway?

I don't think any EU member state (possibly apart from Belgium, whose defence spending is pathetic, but which benefits hugely financially from having both the EU and NATO headquartered here) would look favourably on EU troops that could march into any EU member state at any time under Commission/EEAS orders. Orban would have a coronary for example. We then have the delicious prospect of the EU member state that has been occupied by EU troops appealing to NATO (if it is a NATO member), and invoking article 4 and 5, which means the other NATO nations which are also EU member states having to attack the EU troops as aggressors. I am sure however, that those in the Commission have thought this through thoroughly, and that nothing could possibly go wrong, especially when that means that the US come out to play, and they have bigger toys than anyone in Europe for this particular game.

I applaud Joy Villa's bold choice of dress at the Grammy's when she stood amongst the ant-Trump herd. It had Trump's words on it - make America great.

I admire bold!

!

TheFullMrexit · 13/02/2017 21:55

Scary I have always really enjoyed reading your posts. If your in Brussels, can't you get interview with guy vertsgahst (sp) and put those questions too him. Grin, and film and record it for the arms crowd Grin

scaryteacher · 13/02/2017 22:33

MrExit Yes, I am in the vicinity of Brussels, and would not want to be within a country mile of the odious Guy Verhofstadt. What I posted above is obvious if people look at what is going on and try to work out how you separate the defence obligations a country that is both a NATO nation and a EU member state at the same time. Schrodingers cat might come into play here!

TheAugury · 14/02/2017 08:56

That dress is awesome there are some great YouTube posts (?) I'm going to download her album. Have just watched Osmara talking about her background and Trump wish I knew how to link.

boredofbrexit · 14/02/2017 16:05

Happy Valentines Day (and evening) to y'all.

Watching my son make preparations for this evening took me back to when his father was doing the same for me..he turned out to be a right arse, mind, but Jon Bon Jovi was hot when he sang Bed of RosesSmile

SouthallGirl · 15/02/2017 17:16

Look at these daft wimmin from the Swedish govt. Sweden is definitely done for.

www.unwatch.org/walk-shame-swedens-first-feminist-government-don-hijabs-iran/

"Sweden’s female leaders ignored the recent appeal by Iranian women’s right activist Masih Alinejad who urged Europeans female politicians “to stand for their own dignity” and to refuse to kowtow to the compulsory Hijab while visiting Iran.

"Alinrejad created a Facebook page for Iranian women to resist the law and show their hair as an act of resistance, which now numbers 1 million followers. European female politicians are hypocrites,” “They stand with French Muslim women and condemn the burkini ban—because they think compulsion is bad—but when it happens to Iran, they just care about money. They go to my country and they ignore millions of those women who send their photos to me and put themselves in danger to be heard. And [the European politicians] keep their smile, and wearing hijab, and saying this is a ‘cultural issue’—which is wrong.”

TheAugury · 15/02/2017 18:17

I think we should ban anything that covers the face, our liberalism is our downfall when it comes to the oppression of women

TheFullMrexit · 15/02/2017 19:19

Thanks scary really really enjoy your vignettes from the front line at it were Grin

Happy Valentines Bored! Sweet re your son!!

TheFullMrexit · 15/02/2017 19:35

It is really sad.
Especially as the Swedish govt women are self-declaring as a 'feminist govt'.
It's the usual liberal mental gymnastics really.

boredofbrexit · 15/02/2017 23:31

I agree. The photo with the swedish all women cabinet/government or whatever, and comparing it positively to Trumps all male one. And thought...well whats the difference, one is no better than the other.

surferjet · 16/02/2017 10:32

March in March' Hmm
Will they ever give up?

I swear it would be less effort if they all moved to France.

OP posts:
SemiPermanent · 16/02/2017 11:04

It's all very anti England/anti Britain & veering into David Icke-esque territory at times too.

surferjet · 16/02/2017 11:24

Absolutely - very anti- British ( esp anti - England ) wish they'd all fuck off tbh.

OP posts:
SemiPermanent · 16/02/2017 11:38

Also the lack of self-awareness involved in asserting that the British/English think they're something special (empiristic, little englanders etc etc) - whilst at the same time presuming that a welcome mat will be rolled out purely because of how one voted.
Something very self-affirming/aggrandising about positioning oneself as somehow 'better' than others - whatever the justification.

surferjet · 16/02/2017 11:52

Their lives are probably meaningless - dull dull dull - that's why they pour everything into things like this, it gives them something to focus on & something to feel good about themselves - because unless they're calling someone a racist thick bigot, they've got nothing. I'm sure half of them couldn't give a toss about the EU, it's just an excuse to feel superior. Pathetic really.
Thank god for the 52% Smile

surfer I think that's a bit harsh. I agree with leave, and indeed voted for it, but some remainers do feel passionate about it. Dh's aunt and uncle put a woe about leaving every time they email us. I would have thought they would have worked out we were both Brexiteers, but they seem genuinely upset by leave. Mind you, we have always been poles apart politically; his aunt and a cousin were involved at Greenham Common, whilst dh spent much of his career submerged in a nuclear powered black tube.

TheFullMrexit · 16/02/2017 15:35

Scary what is nuclear powered black tube? Is that nuclear sub?

I don't mind people marching but what i do mind is them marching on behalf of us so called befuddled thick leavers.
March for yourself for remaining in the EU but don't drag leavers into it - most of us I am sure are thrilled we are leaving and just want to get on with it.

scaryteacher · 16/02/2017 15:49

The clue is in submerged, as submariners go down and do it deeper.

boredofbrexit · 16/02/2017 19:16

oh my auntie, I am covering brexit pups ears.

scaryteacher · 16/02/2017 19:41

Why bored? A submarine by its very nature dives deep.

InformalRoman · 16/02/2017 20:07

"submariners go down and do it deeper"

That would make a great bumper sticker. Fnarr fnarr.
