I've only given a tenner, but there are plenty of rich people (unless it's all stealth boasting about dipique candles) here, so we should be able to help.

It's currently at 18.507k and needs 70!

OP posts:

Justanother Maugham's crowdfunding campaign looks set to reach its target this weekend.

Yay?

RachelRagged · 10/12/2016 18:02

Oh and while I am here the Pro Europe marches after Brexit won out .

Where were YOU when the poor were being pummelled again and again and again ?? On any of those marches ?

Self Interest and that is all . . Many worry about their DCs future and voted Leave oddly enough . From what I see of Remoaners (not all of course) its because their little Tarquin or Tatiana won't be able to freely work and study in Europe sob sob .. . well for THOUSANDS there was no chance of that anyway .

Melassa · 10/12/2016 18:06

The idea that voters didn't know what thy voted for and we need to know what we are getting before we leave, is a nonsense because there is no way to answer that until after we complete the negotiations.

Seems an odd way of looking at things. Would you buy a house sight unseen without a survey? I certainly want to know what I'm buying when spending a life changing amount of money, or opting for something that will prove life changing for my children and future generations. Despite being fairly adventurous, I'm not a fan of leaps in the dark without taking a good look first.

Without of course taking into account the calibre of the people supposedly leading negotiations. I personally wouldn't buy a packet of crisps from any of them. I'm really not getting the blind faith.

Norahy · 10/12/2016 18:09

I voted leave and regret it!

Was torn in the box and stood there ummimg and ahhhhing

Ticked leave and regretted it as soon as I left the polling station

Caprianna · 10/12/2016 18:24

Do people like RachelRagged think conditions for the poor will improve under the Tories? The UK used to have an opt out clause from the EU social charter under the John Mayor government for example. I just cannot follow the logic here.

Suppermummy02 · 10/12/2016 18:31

Would you buy a house sight unseen without a survey?

Oh dear god we are not buying a house, we are leaving a club. And when you leave a club you dont know how they are going to treat you after you leave. That's FEAR, staying in a club because you are afraid of how you will be treated when you leave is abusive.

And quite frankly if the club treats you like shit when you leave, why do you want to be in that club anyway?

Melassa · 10/12/2016 18:35

We are leaving a club but it's not the Brownies. There are a whole raft of treaties and obligations which cannot be ignored and need to be managed well if the UK wants to have any credible trade relationship with anywhere else in the world, plus there are economic and financial implications which are not just a blip like an unexpected high electricity bill.

Melassa · 10/12/2016 18:38

And yes, the not haves are going to get poorer in the short term. It's ok if you have a few million in the bank but not if you barely manage to clear the month as it is. Food and fuel are about to get more expensive.

RachelRagged · 10/12/2016 18:45

Do people like Caprianna mean to be so rude by not addressing me personally ? or you trying to get in back up by highlighting it ? I have seen how the bully gangs work on here often enough.

The poor were ALWAYS poor under Tory governments and that's not going to get better but where did I even MENTION the Tories ? I did not, but like so many threads on here things are added, by some, that were never even said .

NotDavidTennant · 10/12/2016 18:46

I also noted its always those who are ALRGHT JACK moaning about the fact Leave won . With your immigrant gardeners and cleaners dirt cheap yea ?

Yes, all remain voters have gardeners and cleaners. Hmm

RachelRagged · 10/12/2016 18:46

Do people like rachelragged .. . tut ..

How condescending but I suspect, by your whole tone of post, you are one of the Remoaners.

RachelRagged · 10/12/2016 18:47

Did I personally state, NotDavidTenant, you are an ALRIGHT JACK ? No . . then why even comment ?

RachelRagged · 10/12/2016 18:48

I am outta here anyway , , just like the UK will be soon .

RachelRagged · 10/12/2016 18:49

You might have noted , by the way NotDT , I also voted for Remain and I don't have cleaners or gardeners either but a LOT of remainers DO . Happier now ??

Alfieisnoisy · 10/12/2016 18:52

I voted Remain. It I don't see how we can possibly go against a majority vote. We are leaving the EU and th only question is how we exit
I wouldn't sign any petition asking for the referendum to be overturned

Alfieisnoisy · 10/12/2016 18:53

No gardeners here either or any other employees.

NotDavidTennant · 10/12/2016 18:54

I also voted for Remain and I don't have cleaners or gardeners either but a LOT of remainers DO

48% of those who voted, voted for Remain. What proportion of the population do you think employs cleaners and gardeners? I would bet that its not anywhere even close to 48%.

Melassa · 10/12/2016 18:56

Oops, sorry, wifi switched itself off. Food and fuel are going to get more expensive purely due to the pound's drop in value, and that's with tariff free imports still arriving from the EU as we haven't left yet. When Brexit does hit, then everything risks getting more expensive again.

Also, I don't get the bitterness about a PP's DC not getting the chance to travel. You don't actually need to be cash rich to to travel and work in the EU. I first moved abroad in the 90s with around £50 in my pocket (my total savings). I'd lined up a low paid low skilled job to get me past the first few months, then when I'd learnt enough of the language I got a better job. No help from parents, my DM was on benefits at the time. So it's not just the wealthy middle class. Nothing is stopping you if you've got enough get up and go.

bertsdinner · 10/12/2016 18:59

I can sort of see where Rachel Ragged is coming from. Brexit won't improve things for the poor, but staying in the EU doesn't seem to have helped them much either. A similar arguement is used towards poor Trump voters, Trump won't help, but the Democrats have left them behind.
I don't know what the answer for these people is, what are the poor/left behind supposed to do? Voting Brexit probably isnt the answer but I'm not convinced remaining was improving their lot either.

Melassa · 10/12/2016 19:00

No gardeners here either. Nor, indeed, any garden.

I do have cleaner though as I work full time, don't want to clean at weekends and am generally quite slovenly. I only have her for about 3 hours a week though. Costs far less than my non existent car.

Melassa · 10/12/2016 19:02

Yes Bert, but that wasn't down to the EU, it was Tory austerity.

The EU was a handy scapegoat. The Tories are probably in a panic right now, wondering who they can blame it on after they've Brexited.

funnyandwittyusername · 10/12/2016 19:06

I'm degree educated and working class. I voted leave. I remember as my partner and I posted our ballots I said, I don't why I'm bothering, the rich stand to lose too much. They'll never let it happen. Pretty much as I expected.

Everyone I know who voted leave isn't changing their mind. I'm not sure where this disinformation is coming from

WrongTrouser · 10/12/2016 19:29

Everyone I know who voted leave isn't changing their mind. I'm not sure where this disinformation is coming from

Well not from the polls, for sure, which have pretty consistently shown almost no change in people's views. It's all just part of the drip, drip attempt to slur the leave vote by some remainders' (and I think it probably is only quite a small proportion) like the OP - who try to say leave voters are stupid or uneducated or poor (or very rich and don't care about the less well off, depending on your take) or old, insular, racist, xenephobic, duped, taken in by Farage and Johnson, and so on and so on.

People who think like that need to get a grip and spend some time looking at the many studies of how people voted, and they will soon see that this view just doesn't stand up to the facts. (You would have hoped the fact that the size of the leave vote was 37% of the electorate would have given just the tiniest hint, but hey ho).

Melassa · 10/12/2016 19:32

The rich? You mean like Arron Banks, multimillionaire? Boris Johnson uber wealthy Eton educated? Nigel Farage, also has a few bob and privately educated? To name just a few.

ElfontheShelfIsWATCHINGYOUTOO · 10/12/2016 19:33

Whole heartedly agree Wrong, its a load of post truth rubbish.
