Is a discussion not a series of questions and answers?

time4chocolate · 01/11/2016 19:36

Not when they take bears tone, no.

Kaija · 01/11/2016 19:37

So why not ignore the tone and engage with the discussion?

WinchesterWoman · 01/11/2016 19:38

Thanks for the virtual holding back Grin oh god i'm off to drink some real gin and I think I need to step away from the keyboard

If I don't come back I've been cast out to the nether regions of ban-dom

now that really is worse than Brexit

Bearbehind · 01/11/2016 19:39

kaija there's no point in pursing your WTO points.

Every single vocal Leaver I've ever seen on MN is on this thread and all of them are doing their damndest to avoid anything that's remotely serious.

If just one of them had an answer they'd give it to support their chums.

It's been the biggest eye opener of the last 4 months.

Kaija · 01/11/2016 19:40

I doubt anyone wants to report you , WinchesterWomen, just to continue the discussion and answer the questions that we put to you in the course of it.

surferjet · 01/11/2016 19:47

No ones going to report you WW, we're all friends here.

Kaija · 01/11/2016 19:48

Bear, I think you have to assume that someone somewhere might be amenable to discussing the issues, and carry on regardless of the background noise.

Corcory · 01/11/2016 19:51

This is the pub thread, we are all sick to death being told we have to 'answer the questions that we put to you' Kaija. Bearbehind has been going on like this for the last 4 months. In the pub we have discussed all sorts of things but we certainly don't have to answer your questions. That is not a discussion or chat in my book.

surferjet · 01/11/2016 19:52

Because we're sick to fucking death of having to answer questions - if you want to be all heavy & serious post on Red's Westminster threads, this isn't a place for endless serious debate, it's Brexit light.
Now shut up & get the drinks in.

OP posts:
Kaija · 01/11/2016 19:52

I don't think I have asked you any questions, Corcory.

Discussion of Brexit was in the thread title. How do you discuss it without asking and responding to questions?

surferjet · 01/11/2016 19:53

Grin omg we all think the same.

StorminaBcup · 01/11/2016 19:54

Kaija is this your first time posting on a brexit thread (not being patronising)? What you tend to find is that the remainers get called bitter, and the brexiters cannot give a simple explanation of what they want our country without Europe to look like, or give an answer that doesn't involve migration.

Personally I voted remain because I'd rather not change anything until there was a clear picture of what we were changing it for.

Do we need to get the bouncers in?

autumnintheair · 01/11/2016 19:57

if you don't have any trust in evidence-based research, where do you get your information from? How do you make a judgment on anything you don't have direct experience of?

Good point Smile

I certainly do take in data and studies, however in this area research, data and statistics are famously poor. So its a small part of my overall impression.

I am not sure how anyone records anyone from the EU coming into the country to live for a short while as Corcory said,in over crowded digs, then leave again or move on. There are vast networks all around the UK of this same pattern, over crowded - often vile digs, there is no records or these people, often their English is poor or non existent, so I do look at studies, but with a healthy dose of realism, that there is actually no system in place to accurately count people.

But, if you can show me a cast iron infallible system, then yes I would look at it, and see whether I thought it was better to take it on board more.

Kaija · 01/11/2016 19:58

Storm, no it's not. But Surferjet started this thread with the apparent intention of creating a space where people from both sides of the debate could discuss Brexit without resorting to insulting each other. So I'm giving it a go.

autumnintheair · 01/11/2016 20:00

storm May I say, I really like your name, I am a little tipsey, please dont think I am trying to come onto your anything...but I do like it Grin

Kaija · 01/11/2016 20:01

"There are vast networks all around the UK of this same pattern, over crowded - often vile digs, there is no records or these people, often their English is poor or non existent"

That's an interesting point. Where are you seeing these patterns and how are you quantifying "vast"?

autumnintheair · 01/11/2016 20:02

Kaija did you have that double whisky I gave you earlier love? Confused here, have another...

autumnintheair · 01/11/2016 20:04

You first, you show me the cast iron, bona fida, infallible data on immigrants coming to the UK please. With specific reference to those who move in a transient way, speak little English and do menial jobs ie, car wash.

StorminaBcup · 01/11/2016 20:04

Ah ok.....good luck!

By the way did someone say they served pork scratchings in here? Is that wise?

StorminaBcup · 01/11/2016 20:07

Ah thanks autumn Blush

time4chocolate · 01/11/2016 20:17

OMFG Storm - where did you find that!!
I'm off to the bar now for a double JD & Coke (and I'll be passing on the pork scratchings for the foreseeable).

Corcory · 01/11/2016 20:24

I agree with Autumn about the transient migrants. I have experience of many east midlands towns and ones in east Anglia and there are loads of people living like this in the poorer parts of the towns. I have gone into corner shops where they mainly seemed to stock was imported vodka and cheap beer and have joined a queue of migrant men with their 4 packs.
But I'd love to see a study! Why has no one done anything about this - oh yes I forgot we have freedom of movement from countries with an entirely different cost of living.

Corcory · 01/11/2016 20:31

Kaija - you haven't asked me any questions. I quoted what you said up thread but Bearbehind has, on and on and on and on.

I'm off to get a refill - Anyone want anything?
