We are now in the throes of a right wing agenda willing to bring down the country for its own ideological beliefs. Bad things happen when good people do nothing. I for one will stand up so lest my children say I did nothing.

You should seriously all write to the MPs who already agree with you and want any excuse to ignore the will of the people.

Tried that. Remain MP in Remain constituency. Repeated Brexit means Brexit. I would have been good to be told why she had changed her mind, other than being Whipped into the stock reply because the Tory party has sold out to the UKIP wing. Apart from that, it would have been good if she had answered my questions rather than the ones she wanted me to ask.

My posts are really great and full of sound arguments
I beg to differ.

I have:
Contributed to crowdfunded legal action

Written letters to my MP and others (overseas voter), signed tons of petitions

Spent endless time sticking up for the British to people where I live. Trying to reassure them that, although my country appears to have lost its collective mind, we are not a nation of xenophobic weirdos. I've heard a lot of stuff along the lines of, 'What the hell is going on? We used to respect and look up to you lot!'

Stopped discussing this topic with leavers. There really seems to be no middle ground (as evidenced on MN). We all cast our votes in the way we thought best. Time will show who is right. I will now exercise my democratic right to protest the direction in which our country is going. I'm pretty sure that leavers would have done the same thing if they'd lost.

The protests probably won't work. But at the very least we will be able to look our kids in the eyes with a clear conscience.

jaws5 · 16/10/2016 16:50

I find it fascinating that Leavers are always so eager to sabotage these threads, while displaying no curiosity at all about the current political situation. They voted and now "the people have spoken load and clear" is all they repeat. The Machiavellian workings within the Cabinet right now, the back stabbings and outright lies for political gain, and all the machinations worthy of a Shakespearean play seem not no be of interest to Brexit cheerleaders.

Exactly. Like with the Iraq war. It didn't stop it, but Chilcot proved that we had the measure of Blair.

jaws5 · 16/10/2016 16:52

peregrina exactly that!

It is worth persisting with MPs.

I initially got a "will of the people" type mail back from mine, but have had a much more positive one today.

As the economic consequences become apparent there is a good deal of scope for movement on this.

MagikarpetRide · 16/10/2016 17:02

cross and shirley thank you.

Yes, definitely I want to be able to look my kids in the eye and say I never gave up what I felt to be in their best interests. Even if in years to come they don't agree with me I'd rather they knew I would fight for them.

It is most odd jaws. I've said for a long time it's like brain washing on a scale never seen before and it truly scares me.

jaws5 · 16/10/2016 17:04

Yes, the Conservatives for Europe group sounds very interesting, and confirms that cross party pressure would be the only effective opposition to TM. Good for them, standing up for liberal values is more important than ever -- just when we thought it wasn't necessary any more.

crossroads3 · 16/10/2016 17:06

Many people in the Lords worth writing to (Patricia Wheatcroft and Michael Heseltine amongst them).

I know we are only supposed to write to our own MPs but I know that many people have been writing to everyone they can think of. People like Anna Soubry can be contacted on twitter. Will attach a list of pro Remain MPs - not everyone but at least a start.

jaws5 · 16/10/2016 17:07

I know bear, me too.

Lilabee · 16/10/2016 17:09

"Yes, Brexiters seem to appear in these threads with the sole intention of derailing the subject and lowering the level of debate, incite arguments with their pathetic insults and then act offended."

As you do when you have no rational arguments and little knowledge or appreciation of complex interdependencies and when you are driven by a fear of people who are different to you.

Bearbehind · 16/10/2016 17:13

lilabee could you share some of your knowledge and appreciation of those complex interdependencies you refer to?

(There are many more. Any SNP MP for a start).

MirabelleTree · 16/10/2016 17:15

These ideas are all very helpful, thank you. My Grandparents were German so I think there is a little bit of residual generational guilt etched deeply into my DNA and I have sworn I will always speak out when I feel I should.

crossroads3 · 16/10/2016 17:18

You're welcome Smile.

Lilabee · 16/10/2016 17:24

Bearbehind What exactly would you like to know?

Tanith · 16/10/2016 17:28

"lilabee could you share some of your knowledge and appreciation of those complex interdependencies you refer to?"

I think like you to tell her since you referred to them

Bearbehind · 16/10/2016 17:31

What exactly would you like to know?

I'd like to know what you are talking about lilabee.

You mentioned 'complex interdepenencies' completely out of context- what were you referring to?

smallfox2002 · 16/10/2016 17:36

Lilabee, welcome, but I don't think you can say that many of us who voted remain are driven by fear of people who are different or don't understand the complex nature of the problems at hand.

But please elaborate with reference to specifics.

MagikarpetRide · 16/10/2016 17:38

I thought lilabee was agreeing with you Confused

crossroads3 · 16/10/2016 17:39

I think Lilabee was referring to Leave voters.
