Project Fear were wrong all along?

With all the newspapers and economic reports screaming there is no/ only positive impact of brexit so far, do you think the Remainers were all wrong and needlessly projecting doomsday scenarios ?

  1. We are not top notch traders but we are not doing too badly either.

fullfact.org/europe/uk-eu-trade/

That (the to EU) share has been declining, because exports to other countries have been increasing at a faster rate.

  1. Eurozone tank - oh yes, we better hope that does not happen. It is going to be Epic. But if it does happen, the less integrate one is, the less damage it would be.
TheForeignOffice · 22/09/2016 12:16

Winchester I took your sentence exactly as written (quoting it for clarity), specified the parameters in my post, gave you a reference for further info from the full facts website and explained how you could cut the raw data for EU migration only if you so wish. I also explained the relevance of considering all migration and not just EU migration in my previous post.

Can you please confirm that you really do object to "claims that cannot be proven or justified" ?

whatwouldrondo · 22/09/2016 12:17

Lyra Where I come from trying to have an informed debate is not called haranging.

Still if you and Winchester want to stick with Boris style unsubstantiated empty rhetoric unmarred by anything remotely resembling a realistic plan that would deliver this "glorious future" then you are sadly far from alone, indeed it is what passes for governing the country these days........

Cxc78 · 22/09/2016 12:19

Oh boy... You can just tell she lives in Winchester Grin

WinchesterWoman · 22/09/2016 12:20

It said 'We send more than 350m to the UK each week. Let's spend more on the NHS instead'. You can see it on google image.

WinchesterWoman · 22/09/2016 12:21

Motherofdragons: There's still a lot of uncertainty but it isn't having the effect we were warned of. Remember we were told uncertainty would be disastrous; not jut Brexit. Well the uncertainty isn't disastrous. At all.

WinchesterWoman · 22/09/2016 12:23

Lol at Foreign Office. I thought we were talking about EU migrants. I mean go ahead and split hairs, but actually one of the Leave campaigns platforms was that it's racist that we give priority to a Romanian Barista over an Indian doctor.

IAmNotTheMessiah · 22/09/2016 12:24

Try again

WinchesterWoman · 22/09/2016 12:24

Google Bernard Connolly, He's very good on this. Or is it connelly? I forget. He wrote about how George Soros is wrong on the economy post Brexit.

topsy777 · 22/09/2016 12:25

Motheroffourdragons

The 'caveat' is your inference from words such as uncertainness, frozen out etc. The article does not say that.

On the other hand, the top University in the EU (ex UK) Is the Swedish Karolinska Inst at position 28, behind even the NUS (Singapore, small Island, 24).

WinchesterWoman · 22/09/2016 12:25

People are sooooo cross.

topsy777 · 22/09/2016 12:25

uncertainness should be "uncertainties"

IAmNotTheMessiah · 22/09/2016 12:26

Topsy, I told you what will happen on the other thread, but I can't give you the details of what will happen because a) we haven't left yet, b) we don't know what kind of Brexit we will end up with, and c) because of professional confidences. I know of negotiations currently being undertaken, and if we don't have passporting the result ain't going to be pretty for the UK.

WinchesterWoman · 22/09/2016 12:26

'Making glib comments as she can't back up a single one of her facile claims.' ooh I just saw this. That's not very nice.

MrsPeterParker · 22/09/2016 12:28

@1gorgeousson, as @Corcory says in one of the comments in the thread, markets adjust gradually to the news and we have been seeing markets returning to normal, house prices going up, unemployment figures remaining stable, consumer spending shrugging off brexit news, growth forecasts being revised by OECD and so on. Clearly, markets have already been factoring in the post A50 phase?

Ok fine. We will drop that. I don't hold grudges.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 22/09/2016 12:33

Im a bit cross winchester

Not because we don't have any idea what is going to happen

Leavers may be right and it will all go swimmingly

Remainers may be right and we are going to go to hell in a handcart

Just that WE HAVEN'T FUCKING LEFT YET

I am just a bit sick of the "oh look everything is fine...silly people getting so worked up" rhetoric

WHEN WE HAVEN'T FUCKING LEFT YET

I wouldnt mind if threads were about " what do you think will happen"

But they are not

And i do love a good discussion on MN, and both leave campaigns and remains were doom mongering, neither side knew/knows what will happen, and there have been lots of good arguments from both sides

But...

WE HAVEN'T FUCKING LEFT YET

merrymouse · 22/09/2016 12:38

topsy, there is no evidence that trade outside the EU will improve having left the EU or that trade outside the EU was adversely affected by being in the EU.

The UK's 'integration' with the EU goes far beyond bits of paper. There is no safe level of distance that protects the UK from Economic crisis in Europe. That has always been the case and always will be.

WinchesterWoman · 22/09/2016 12:39

Rufus you could join a campaign to invoke Article 50 now. There are loads of them. They're really pushing for it.

WinchesterWoman · 22/09/2016 12:40

To be fair if it turns to violence and mass civic unrest on the streets of Europe we would be somewhat protected from that.

WinchesterWoman · 22/09/2016 12:40

I've got to go to work. Best wishes to all. Don't worry, all will be well and all manner of things will be well.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 22/09/2016 12:42

It would be quite nice to get it over and done with winchester

But i also think it would be fairly dumb without a plan Smile

And i am not sure that our government have a clue...let alone a plan
