With all the newspapers and economic reports screaming there is no/ only positive impact of brexit so far, do you think the Remainers were all wrong and needlessly projecting doomsday scenarios ?

pretty confident the liars on the leaver side specifically said the £350M was for the NHS.

just quickly - they didn't

Yawnyawnallday · 22/09/2016 12:49

Must have imagined that bus slogan about 350m for the NHS.

From Gisela Stuart: Every week we send £350m to Brussels. (Which she knew to be a lie).
I'd rather that we control how to spend that money, and if I had that control I would spend it on the NHS.

OK, she hasn't got control, so she can wriggle out of that one. Which is exactly what she and her chums did. "Oh, we never said we would spend it on the NHS, we said we could." A distinction which was lost on a significant number of voters.

But Boris is one who is control of Brexit. So what have we seen him championing so far? Errm, the Royal Yacht Britannia. Anything else?

Alfieisnoisy · 22/09/2016 13:03

Topsy, if you are too dim to understand I was pointing out the errors of the leave campaign and the outright lies.

But glad you can smugly say your investments are doing well. Good for you Hmm (actually I couldn't give a shiny shit about your FTSE100).

TheForeignOffice · 22/09/2016 13:04

Must have imagined that bus slogan about 350m for the NHS.

Yup, and I must have imagined this photo of Boris presenting the Leave campaign statement of "Let's give our NHS the 350 million the EU takes every week" which ended up in the Daily Telegraph, see link below Smile

"too dim to understand"

So name calling now starts on the 6th (as opposed to 1st) page. It is an improvement and in the right direction just like the Brexit positioning.

I am an optimist and I celebrate that.

Yawnyawnallday · 22/09/2016 13:20

I've seen worse than dim witted on mn.

twofingerstoGideon · 22/09/2016 13:20

Actually, topsy, winchesterwomen started the name-calling quite near the beginning, accusing me of writing 'rubbish' and Bear of writing dross. Grin

winkywinkola · 22/09/2016 13:23

Winchester, the Leave campaigners instantly reneged on any extra money going to the NHS.

I would love to be wrong on this. Please could you provide evidence where more money had been promised to the NHS in future as a result of Brexit?

And I don't mean because of privatisation either. Wink

Let's just wait and see wait happens before we start crowing about the UK economy, shall I? I really hope it will all be okay and we will be able to withstand the huge buffeting we will face post Article 50.

Everybody does hope for the best. It's just that lots of people are rather more realistic than others.

winkywinkola · 22/09/2016 13:24

Leave voters avoid these threads because ime, they are utterly unable to provide evidence to support their claims.

They don't like being asked to provide evidence.

corythatwas · 22/09/2016 13:25

dh's firm have had to lay people off due to construction companies pulling out

Yawnyawnallday · 22/09/2016 13:28

Sorry to hear that , Cory. How horrible.

twofingerstoGideon · 22/09/2016 13:31

Topsy, optimism isn't limited to leave voters, you know. I also try to be optimistic, but so far two of the professors I work with have lost research funding and one has decided - as a result - to move to Germany. He's pretty gutted about this, as his teenagers are mid GCSE and A Levels and his wife doesn't want to leave her job here, so he will be 'commuting' and living apart from his family for much of the month. I am also sad to see him go, as he is a great supervisor to our PG students and an all-round lovely chap.

My optimistic nature also extended to me believing that my fellow humans were essentially good people, but the spate of racist attacks and the amount of xenophobic bile that seems to be thriving online has really shaken that belief and I don't know if it can be retrieved.

If we consider ALL the effects of Brexit, rather than solely thinking about the economy, I can't see how the division caused in the country and within families is in any way positive. I'm pretty old really and cannot think of anything more divisive that's happened in my lifetime, which makes me really upset.

TheForeignOffice · 22/09/2016 13:38

GBPUSD is down -11.11% since 23 June. FTSE 100 over the same period is up GBP 10.66% (inc. today's bounce). The gloatiest thing one could say is that you've kept your head almost at water level in real value terms whilst the rest of your countrymen have been screwed.

surferjet · 22/09/2016 13:47

dh's firm have had to lay people off due to construction companies pulling

So no one was ever laid off before 23rd June 2016?

I'm sorry, but all the countries woes will be blamed on Brexit by some people, people determined to wallow in misery for ever.

Yawnyawnallday · 22/09/2016 13:53

If firms have pulled out due to Brexit then it follows that that happened because of Brexit.
Hardly wallowing.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 22/09/2016 14:02

surfer

Thats bloody rude

So let me get this straight,

Wait a minute, i can't be arsed...doesnt matter what i say to you does it

cory

Sorry to hear that, my dh is concerned about his job, but hopefully he will be ok

whatwouldrondo · 22/09/2016 14:03

Winchester turns to the words of Julian of Norwich, catholic mystic to predict the future of the economy and British society.

Who needs experts when you can deliver a glorious future via a faith only 10% of the country share? Hmm

Though as I recall this forms the basis of the Catholic theology that argues that God shows himself more in times of great and multifaceted evil........

CeciledeVolanges · 22/09/2016 14:09

surfer do you like wallowing in misery? I know I don't. I would just rather confront the truth than lie to myself.

topsy777 · 22/09/2016 14:20

Cory
Sorry to hear that.

twofingerstoGideon

Sorry to hear about your professors.

Is this a case of FP7 funding or is this a FP8/H2020 programme?

Can you shed some light on this as Academic research should be about academic excellence rather than political objectives and UK is still paying into the port. Why the termination of funding?

topsy777 · 22/09/2016 14:23

'port' should be pot.

winkywinkola · 22/09/2016 14:24

Will Brexit take responsibility for anything at all over the next ten years, do you think?

Or are only fairies and pixie dust allowed in Brexitland?

God. I hope it's all going to be okay even if it means the smugness of Leave voters.

CeciledeVolanges · 22/09/2016 14:28

topsy Horizon 2020 programmes are long-term. UK researchers might not still be on those programmes by the time they finish, or even get underway. Funding from existing programmes I'm not sure is being pulled but tell me why they should give us money for new ones?
