With all the newspapers and economic reports screaming there is no/ only positive impact of brexit so far, do you think the Remainers were all wrong and needlessly projecting doomsday scenarios ?

How 'exactly'?Grin on my phone?

Bearbehind · 22/09/2016 10:06

winchester, stop trying to detract from the point and answer the question.

Why is it 'obvious' some money will go to the NHS and pressure on it will decrease?

Also, exactly which bits of my 'dross' are untrue?

LyraMortalia · 22/09/2016 10:12

I voted Leave and I voted for my dc's future as they did too. I'm really happy with the outcome so far, Project Fear was doom mongering. Whatwouldrondo your haranging of Winchesterwoman and constant virtue signalling doesn't add to the debate and is the reason most Leave voters avoid these threads.

WinchesterWoman · 22/09/2016 10:13

Lots bear. Just a boringly large amount.

This all reminds me of driving a child to the dentist with them thinking their relentless whining would make it not happen. Of course everything was smashing in the end. And so it will prove here. Cease your fretting.

merrymouse · 22/09/2016 10:16

Hinkley Point is going ahead because it turns out that you can't just 'take back control' and there isn't much choice but to do a deal with the Chinese and French, because you can tear up bits of paper but the fundamental powers and objectives of the various players remain the same.

Similarly, while the U.K. has not been plunged into recession by Brexit, there is no indication that it has any more 'sovereignty' or any better trade deals than before, nor has any agreement been made about immigration either way.

Bearbehind · 22/09/2016 10:18

winchester, if you want a discussion on this you have to better than make sarcastic comments when asked questions.

What exactly was incorrect about my prediction of what costs we will incur?

Where will the money for the NHS come from?

Peregrina · 22/09/2016 10:19

I should add DC's German and Spanish colleagues have already left. STEM industry. Recruitment on hold. So no, jobs aren't going it's all going to be hunky dory.

WinchesterWoman · 22/09/2016 10:20

Thanks Lyra. It makes me feel great that I did this for my kids.

merrymouse · 22/09/2016 10:23

I think I'd wait for Brexit to achieve some of its aims before describing it as a success. Not changing much but luckily not yet plunging the country into a recession is a pretty low bar.

Peregrina · 22/09/2016 10:26

What exactly have you done for your children though? Are you encouraging them to study science so that they can begin to plug the gaps in Health care when the EU staff up and leave? Or construction? To replace the Poles and Romanians who say "F* this. I'm not wanted here, I am off." The Construction industry is already bleating about not being able to recruit enough skilled tradespeople (Partly their own fault for not spending on apprenticeships, so I have a limited amount of sympathy.) Who will built Hinkley Point, I wonder?

twofingerstoGideon · 22/09/2016 10:33

It is such a weak argument accusing someone of 'virtue signalling'.

WinchesterWoman · 22/09/2016 10:42

You know I read that out of 1.3m nhs England staff, about 50k are migrants

Figmentofmyimagination · 22/09/2016 10:45

No figment, none at all

I asked you what benefits you see for your children. What benefits do you see for them as a result of this? How will their lives be better?

Interesting that you see the downside purely in terms of whether or not your vote has affected your childrens' prospects of being able to work overseas. That's is a very middle-class (and dare I say narrow!) perspective.

WinchesterWoman · 22/09/2016 10:47

I have such faith in my country and my fellow citizens. It IS a tragedy that labour dumbed down education so appallingly. But we are making up the difference nowSmile

WinchesterWoman · 22/09/2016 10:49

No I see the benefits for the children of people who've really suffered due to freedom of movement.

twofingerstoGideon · 22/09/2016 10:50

Bloombergs: Banks throw in the towel on Clearing

...while Leavers 'have faith'

WinchesterWoman · 22/09/2016 10:50

That's not only how I look at things at all. I was asked about my children HmmConfused

WinchesterWoman · 22/09/2016 10:50

Oh Gideon you poor thing

twofingerstoGideon · 22/09/2016 10:55

No I see the benefits for the children of people who've really suffered due to freedom of movement.
And how exactly have people's children suffered due to freedom of movement specifically - as opposed to funding cuts, other migration, constant changes (incuding academisation), teacher shortages which UK government has no plan to address?

twofingerstoGideon · 22/09/2016 10:58

Oh Gideon you poor thing
Nothing sounds more like a barrel being scraped than comments like this (and describing other people's comments as 'dross'.)

Bearbehind · 22/09/2016 10:59

Instead of relying on 'faith' could you please answer my questions?

Why are the costs I anticipate 'dross' in your opinion?

Where will the NHS windfall come from?

It's beyond frustrating that Leave voters make statements they can't even begin to defend- are you going to be yet another one who does that?

1gorgeousson · 22/09/2016 11:01

I can't believe what I'm reading. We're still in the EU, nothing has changed yet. Or is that concept lost on some of the general public? This should be posted in two years time when we are on our own Hmm

GladAllOver · 22/09/2016 11:03

We'll find out whether it's good for the UK when we finally leave. It's only guesswork until then.
I didn't vote Remain out of fear. I voted positively to stay in the EU because I believed it was best for us to be in the EU. And I still do.

WinchesterWoman · 22/09/2016 11:06

Yes I'm being glib due to being on the phone and at the supermarket. That much is true.
