To feel really positive about leaving the EU

kitty1976 · 13/07/2016 22:59

I know there has been lots of fear stories but in a few weeks since the vote we have managed to get a new PM who seems more than capable and we are now in control of our destiny without being ruled by an unelected and unaccountable EU. The EU has for a long time been a basket case and has condemned much of the youth of Southern Europe to decades of unemployment, it's a relief to be out. Do remember we are now free to negotiate our own trade deals with the rest of the world and most countries are not in the EU and seem to do well. There have been so many fear stories which have been peddled by self interest. I wonder in 5 years time how many remainers will be asking to rejoin the EU!!

The EU was about free trade, we can still trade

donthaveto, why do you imagine the EU will allow us free trade when they don't allow it to Norway without a hefty levy?

BurstBees · 14/07/2016 01:13

Be fair, Kitty, you are saying nothing now.

thecatfromjapan · 14/07/2016 01:14

You started the thread, Kitty.

I didn't hunt you down, find you in your little home, sit on your lap-top and demand you to get all positive in my face.

Do you have some sort of problem accepting responsibility or remembering your own actions?

donthaveto · 14/07/2016 01:15

Judycoolbar -no one can tell you - the Government of this country asked the people whether they wanted to stay in or leave -we listened to the debates and the experts and still 52% of the people said we want out.
You tell me Judy what's so wonderful about the EU.

Mrskeats · 14/07/2016 01:16

Don't you have google?

donthaveto · 14/07/2016 01:17

Judy.. I didn't say we could have 'free' trade I said we could still trade and funnily enough with other countries too.

jimbroad · 14/07/2016 01:20

What a horrible bunch of ignorant fuck wits you all are. Proper little nest of keyboard warriors on this forum!

ilovesooty · 14/07/2016 01:20

My company has a lot of contracts helping vulnerable people which are funded by the European Social Fund. Those contracts will be difficult to sustain and we're facing significant cuts which have already resulted in job losses.

Do forgive me if that doesn't make me euphoric.

kitty1976 · 14/07/2016 01:20

No one had come up with anything that is good about the EU, no one had addressed how it has failed generations living in the south of Europe! I hope that we will leave the EU on good terms and I'm sure we will (even in the last few weeks we can see how Europe's hard line position with us has softened considbly) let's hope we all can prosper outside the United States of Europe there is no reason why not

Access to $16.6 trillion dollar market for a start.
That was free access and now won't be.

JudyCoolibar · 14/07/2016 01:21

So, donthaveto, you are saying you voted Leave on the basis that neither you nor anyone else in the Leave camp had a clue what would happen and you just vaguely hoped that all those experts were wrong? Seriously?

By the way, 52% of the people didn't say they wanted out.

I'll tell you just one good thing about the way things were before the referendum. The pound varied between around $1.5 to $1.7. Currently it's at approximately $1.3 and falling.

Mrskeats · 14/07/2016 01:21

Try reading my link for a start.

No idea where you're getting the idea that people outside of the EU think Brexit was a bad idea. They don't. I'm Australian; we all had our jaws on the floor when the result came in, and I've yet to meet a single person (my husband is an economist, so know a lot of those types of people) who thinks it was a good idea. It wasn't, and isn't. Unfortunately, the democratic process means that the vote now needs to be carried.

The UK is going to be in a mess for the foreseeable future and I don't envy Theresa May one bit having to deal with it.

ilovesooty · 14/07/2016 01:22

Well jimbroad other forums are available.

donthaveto which countries are you anticipating us trading with? What are we going to sell and to whom?

JudyCoolibar · 14/07/2016 01:23

: Right, Jim, I've asked three other leave proponents, none has been able to answer, perhaps you can. Tell us why we are so ignorant. Tell us what the plan is and why we should be so happy.

Mrskeats · 14/07/2016 01:23

Reported jimbroad

JudyCoolibar · 14/07/2016 01:25

donthaveto, obviously we can still trade. But can you tell us exactly how we will trade with the EU without having to pay the sort of levy that Norway pays, and how trade with other countries will make up for what we lose? Bearing in mind that, for those other countries, it's a hell of a lot easier to trade with one large bloc of 27 nations than one tiny little island.

emilybohemia · 14/07/2016 01:30

How do you think families will 'prosper', Kitty, if members of them from EU countries have to leave? How do you think Brits in other EU countries feel, wondering if the may lose their right to stay?

What makes you think we will leave on good terms?

thecatfromjapan · 14/07/2016 01:31

Here's another thing I hope for:

I hope I'll wake up and the we'll all have gone back in time. The PM announces a referendum on membership of the EU. First, however, there is a test referendum: on whether to run across the M1 blindfold.

Because it's a precursor to the EU referendum, the serried ranks of experts come out, along with Nigel Farage and Boris Johnson. The 'Let's Go!' camp argue that running across the M1 blindfold will reduce immigration. The 'Let's Stay Here' camp say that it won't. Polls are done, suggesting that those voting to run across the M1 blindfold have lower academic qualifications than those saying 'Let's not.' They also tend to disapprove of feminism, progressive attitudes, etc.

The result is delivered. Yay! 52% have really stuck it to the man! They've shown those stuck-up experts a thing or two! Yay.

The 'Let's Stay Here' camp get to watch the outcome in the comfort of their own homes, broadcast on television.

donthaveto · 14/07/2016 01:31

Mrs keats-' we are looking abroad to other countries for negotiators- that sums it up really ' oh please we have some of the best Universities in the world, we are a 99% literate country - for God's sake the people of this country are not backwards , this country is one of the best in the world , why do you think everyone wants to come here , from all corners of the world, rich and poor?

Loopy22 · 14/07/2016 01:31

Wonder where Kitty works? Wonder if there about to outsource her job to Europe? Who'd employ a Brit? We're all just a bunch of naive fuckers. Chin up.. I'll appreciate your vote if I'm ill while traveling abroad this summer.

Alisvolatpropiis · 14/07/2016 01:32

Only I didn't do that Sophie.

Don't be sorry, being reactionary and offensive fits your demographic perfectly. Smile

Glastokitty · 14/07/2016 01:32

I'm in Australia, and can assure you that everyone that has talked to me about Brexit has been asking what the hell is going on, and why on earth people voted out! Not a single person I've spoken to (and I work with people of many nationalities) has thought it was a good idea. I worry for you guys, I really do. It would be nice to read a well reasoned defence of the brexit, and not just 'Lets all be positive' bollocks, but I fear such a defence does not exist.
