To feel really positive about leaving the EU

kitty1976 · 13/07/2016 22:59

I know there has been lots of fear stories but in a few weeks since the vote we have managed to get a new PM who seems more than capable and we are now in control of our destiny without being ruled by an unelected and unaccountable EU. The EU has for a long time been a basket case and has condemned much of the youth of Southern Europe to decades of unemployment, it's a relief to be out. Do remember we are now free to negotiate our own trade deals with the rest of the world and most countries are not in the EU and seem to do well. There have been so many fear stories which have been peddled by self interest. I wonder in 5 years time how many remainers will be asking to rejoin the EU!!

Right, Sophie, OP hasn't managed it, donthaveto hasn't managed it: perhaps you could tell us the basis on which we should be optimistic? What do you reckon the Leave plan is, as you are apparently claiming that you know what you are talking about?

ilovesooty · 14/07/2016 00:55

I would like to bet that I have more brains than most of you

Oh good. Perhaps you can explain why everyone should feel so positive and excited, since the OP obviously isn't capable of doing so?

donthaveto · 14/07/2016 00:55

Mrs keats- it's my user name - the lack of grammar was intentional-duh

Mrskeats · 14/07/2016 00:55

I have no confidence
Now Boris Johnson who insulted president Obama as foreign secretary?
The Downing Street cat must have turned it down

PressRedToSelect · 14/07/2016 00:56

Mrskeats telling other posters to 'use grammar'. Grin

Such irony, you appear to not be aware of the existence of full stops in several of your recent posts and have written this :
"And we get the oh it will all be fine crap yet again"

Mrskeats · 14/07/2016 00:56

It's affected not effected

Alisvolatpropiis · 14/07/2016 00:56

I think voting Remain or Leave has revealed different world views, American politics style. That can't be put in the "different opinions" box and ignored in the same way voting Conservative or Labour can.

You are foolish to think otherwise, quite frankly.

JudyCoolibar · 14/07/2016 00:57

Kitty, obviously we all hope that we will get a good deal and we will prosper. But could you tell us why on earth Europe would give us a good deal? We don't even have trained negotiators. Just hoping the EU leaders will be nice really doesn't cut it: they have nothing to gain by that.

Alisvolatpropiis · 14/07/2016 00:58

Has it not occurred to you that the "angry" people just know more about the EU than you do, Sophie?

Mrskeats · 14/07/2016 00:58

There is no point to this thread.
In summation it appears most people answering say they don't feel optimistic and ask for reasons why they should.
No hard evidence has been provided by the op or anyone else as to why we should,

Hillfarmer · 14/07/2016 00:59

But let's all ignore the rest of the world ignore what is in front out our eyes.

The rest of the world thinks we are stark, staring mad.

Mrskeats · 14/07/2016 01:00

We are looking abroad for talented people to help us negotiate.
Sums it all up really,

Sophie1985 · 14/07/2016 01:01

Alisvolat yes it did occur to me but then I realised that obviously wasn't the case. It occurred to me to be more likely that those who are thick as shit resort to immediately telling someone asking a reasonable question to 'fuck off'. And I'm afraid you likely fall in to that category. Sorry!

shadowfax07 · 14/07/2016 01:02

I hope that when article 50 is invoked we will leave on good terms and we and Europe will prosper.

You can hope all you want, it isn't going to happen.Hmm

thecatfromjapan · 14/07/2016 01:04

I wonder if this thread is actually a cunning way of finding out how many mumsnetters use drugs at 1 a.m. on a school night?

i reckon I'd be feeling quite positive if I was imbibing a Class A stimulant right now.

I can imagine I'd then be tapping: "Yeah, babe. Ws feelling qu down bout it but I'm buzzzzzing about it now!!!! Smile Grin"

Whisperingeye1 · 14/07/2016 01:05

Sophie I would still like to know how I am being overdramatic about not being to pay my mortgage when my husbands company is making lots of redundancies as a result of the vote.

Mrskeats · 14/07/2016 01:05

Yes why the hell would they want to give us a good deal? You are dreaming.

thecatfromjapan · 14/07/2016 01:07

Hoping is a great thing, Kitty.

I'll join you.

Tomorrow, I hope I wake up to find a unicorn in the garden, standing next to two huge pots of gold - just for me!

Yay!

Do you think it'll happen? Smile

kitty1976 · 14/07/2016 01:09

I think the solution is that all of us who voted to leave (the majority who bothered to vote) should say nothing for fear of being called stupid and those who voted to remain should ask for another referendum and keep asking until the result comes out 'right'!!!

OP posts:
donthaveto · 14/07/2016 01:09

ilovesooty - NO ONE can say what will or won't happen, the government and the remainers couldn't come up with any real concrete rationale. But I happen to believe in Great Britain , I love the Europeans but I don't want
to be part of a United States of Europe - does that make me thick or ill educated . I listened to the debates as much as any one and came to the conclusion that I like many, many other intelligent people that I wanted out. The EU was about free trade, we can still trade. You remainers tell me what you think is so good about the EU without resorting to childish jibes.

Mrskeats · 14/07/2016 01:09

That's horrible whispering
My partner's company is not going ahead with with expansion and the taking on of some new staff. British graduates I might add. And yet people fail to see why we are incredibly angry.

JudyCoolibar · 14/07/2016 01:11

But, kitty, we don't want you to say nothing. We're begging you to say a lot to explain exactly why we should be so happy. Why aren't you responding to that?

seventhgonickname · 14/07/2016 01:12

Regardless of what we all voted and whether our spelling, punctuation or grammar accurate we are leaving. Some people are already being adversely affected andthose living in the southeast may be impacted more than the rest of us but instead of moaning and saying I. told you so we just have to get on with it as we always do.The sun will still rise tomorrow..

Mrskeats · 14/07/2016 01:12

I haven't got the time to list everything the eu has done.
Lots of lists on the referendum board.
And we can't trade as part of the single market,

Whisperingeye1 · 14/07/2016 01:12

Thanks Mrskeats. It's a tough one as I am on maternity leave at the moment so means we will probably have to leave the UK so my husband can work elsewhere. People are angry for a reason and there will be job losses as well as a lack of jobs being created for graduates. Think its very sad.
