To feel really positive about leaving the EU

I know there has been lots of fear stories but in a few weeks since the vote we have managed to get a new PM who seems more than capable and we are now in control of our destiny without being ruled by an unelected and unaccountable EU. The EU has for a long time been a basket case and has condemned much of the youth of Southern Europe to decades of unemployment, it's a relief to be out. Do remember we are now free to negotiate our own trade deals with the rest of the world and most countries are not in the EU and seem to do well. There have been so many fear stories which have been peddled by self interest. I wonder in 5 years time how many remainers will be asking to rejoin the EU!!

Valentine - well what are you worried about then if you are going , goodbye.
To the rest of you remainers , LOL , I am not angry at all , I was just stirring you all up , because I have never heard such a vitriolic attack . Just because other people do not have the same view as you do . No one knows what will happen , you never know it might just be better and a lot of brave people have been prepared to risk it by actually believing in this country and the people of this country , wherever they may hail from. I would like the people of the rest of the EU to have a referendum too and see what their thoughts are. They used to believe that the world was flat you know. As for a more right wing government , it sure as hell can't be any worse and we are a democratic country and we do have elections . As for Smallfox - no you're really not cleverer than me - "dearie"..

Good luck! Looking at options, too.

whatwouldrondo · 19/07/2016 18:34

donthavetoo "believing in their country and the people in it" sounds like Boris "I believe in the people of Britain" but I don't care about them enough not to risk setting them adrift on a ship without a rudder in the cause of my career ....

Peregrina · 19/07/2016 18:44

dontjaveto It might all work out in the end, although it won't be quick. But saying 'goodbye and good riddance isn't doing anything positive to build a future Britain/ E & W. At the moment we have BoJo saying we are part of Europe, so it looks as though he was a secret Remainer really, and then a few vague promises of trade deals with the rest of the world, which may or may not come to anything. And then Farage and Co have done a runner after shouting their mouths off. None of which at present fills me with confidence. At some stage someone is going to have to knuckle down to some hard work, but it doesn't look like any of the above are in any great rush.

EverythingWillBeFine · 19/07/2016 18:53

dont could you please reassure me that it will be ok by telling me where we are going? Because atm I haven't a clue. Within the free trade of the EU, out if it, with some trade agreements, with who and how long will it take?
When will the next general election be maybe?
I don't know. SOMETHING that our government is doing that will explain where we are heading.

Atm what is heard very clearly is all the issues and blockages in the way. And let's be honest, they are there. So what are we going to do to go over them or avoid them?
When I know that, then I think I'll feel much happier and reassured. Bit as far as I know, no one has said anything yet, not even the PM.
Is it because she has no idea yet, just like the rest if us?

SnowBells · 19/07/2016 18:57

Who will be paying for the pensions of the Babyboomers' generation, if the younger people do emigrate?

Genuine question.

Valentine2 · 19/07/2016 19:07

It's sad to see so many arguments with lots of facts and data haven't been enough to change your opinion even a little bit. But since all you wanted was to stir us up, not have an educated/informed discussion, it makes sense.
I also feel very sad about the fact that you think things can't get any worse really. You are comparing it all to the past that is long gone. Of course thing are bad but i have seen things that can happen when you do get a proper right wing government. We aren't there yet. But we are in that direction of BREXIT goes ahead. I don't believe in nationalism. I a human and humans live elsewhere too. So I will go if future of my children looks compromised. I have to answer to them before I have to answer to country.

Thanks! Options aren't that bad to be fair. Specially as we have enough time for applying for immigration in terms of age. But the emotional side is very painful. My cold ten are young enough to grow up fine elsewhere. But if I have to go, I will leave part of me behind.
My only hope is that the court and parliament/house of Lords etc etc create enough hurdles for a BREXIT option that the severity of situation becomes more obvious to Leavers. Obvious enough to let Theresa May get away with a U turn. You think that's possible?

Globetrotter100 · 19/07/2016 19:07

Good question snowbells. I've seen the Australian points system for immigration quoted so often by Leavers that I'm assuming they're in favour of

  1. the Australian healthcare system (fairly basic unless you can afford private, and if you can afford private you must pay for private insurance else get whacked with an extra tax) and..

  2. the Australian state pension system, which is paltry and means tested so you only get it when on your last legs

I'm sure this will all be covered in "the plan" Hmm

We'll find out soon enough.

They will live on the spirit of this country. And the air. And the grass. just need to believe in themselves and start producing the required enzymes for grass digestion. So far EU was in the way of course. But now we can evolve.

MangoMoon · 19/07/2016 19:14

^This doesn't feel like my country anymore.
Maybe it's been like this for a long time and I just didn't realise?
Luckily I have dual citizenship - as do my DC - so the mouth breathing knuckle draggers won't be able to stop my DC living or working in Europe if they wish.^

Charming!!
I'm sure you'll be sadly missed, especially if you're this lovely in real life!

Valentine2 · 19/07/2016 19:15

I mean the country that will be left after Scotland is gone and Ireland too. Referendum means democracy and they have the right to stay with EU if they like.

Janey50 · 19/07/2016 19:22

Why do people have to be so rude just because someone dares to have a different opinion to them? I get so fed-up with people that think their's is the ONLY opinion that counts.

GarlicStake · 19/07/2016 19:36

Janey, because one side's talking facts and the other's talking opinions. A fact isn't an opinion. Opinions aren't facts. "A lot of brave people have been prepared to risk it by actually believing in this country and the people of this country" is not a statement of policy, a strategy or a plan. It's a feeling.

The fact that this feeling is equivalent to "A lot of brave people have been prepared to jump off The Shard by believing they've been granted anti-gravity powers" does nothing to alter observed facts. It's an opinion.

And, if you're looking at predicted outcomes, not an easy opinion to respect.

Ha ha ha ha

Valentine2 · 19/07/2016 19:45

Quite. The problem being that their perceptions were formulated based on false information.

Surferjet · 19/07/2016 20:11

The die hard remainers, I mean the ones who simply refuse to let go & accept the vote, come across as very unpatriotic UK haters tbh. When I say UK, I mean England & Wales ( Scotland can't survive without handouts so will cling to the EU with embarrassing desperation ) I long for the day Scotland gets independence from us I really do.
Also, what remainers fail to understand is - the EU can't wait to see the back of us.

Badders123 · 19/07/2016 20:11

Surfer:.:please read back
I said just that some pages ago

Badders123 · 19/07/2016 20:13

Mango...
I am quite lovely I assure you Grin

Surferjet · 19/07/2016 20:22

Sorry Badders123
That'll teach me for never RTFT.

Corcory · 19/07/2016 20:34

Here's a few facts if any remainers are interested. The UK has done worse trade wise whilst in the EU with countries that the EU has trade deals with. The EU has not increased trade it has reduced it unlike many other countries around the world. You just need to look at Switzerland in comparison to us - they are doing much better. We are the EU's biggest trading partner.
I really think so many of the remainers have believed the scare mongering of the likes of George Osbourne and David Cameron and really think the end is neigh.

twofingerstoGideon · 19/07/2016 20:37

What a daft comment. Yes, they hate their country so much that they're prepared to watch from the sidelines while it throws itself off a metaphorical cliff. Don't you think it's because they LIKE their country that 'die hard remainers' are fighting against Brexit? Whether you agree with what they're trying to achieve or not, the remainers clearly think their country is worth fighting for.

Badders123 · 19/07/2016 20:38

Just seen on Twitter the IMF have downgraded the UKs economic outlook again after the ref vote....
Project fear indeed
Now it's just reporting the news AngrySad
