To feel really positive about leaving the EU

I know there has been lots of fear stories but in a few weeks since the vote we have managed to get a new PM who seems more than capable and we are now in control of our destiny without being ruled by an unelected and unaccountable EU. The EU has for a long time been a basket case and has condemned much of the youth of Southern Europe to decades of unemployment, it's a relief to be out. Do remember we are now free to negotiate our own trade deals with the rest of the world and most countries are not in the EU and seem to do well. There have been so many fear stories which have been peddled by self interest. I wonder in 5 years time how many remainers will be asking to rejoin the EU!!

However much you think the 'rich' will suffer... that will be nothing compared to how the poor might lose out due to all of this.

Kaija · 18/07/2016 18:17

Mollie, why do you think that being in the EU contributed to the deprivation in your area?

Sooverthis · 18/07/2016 18:29

It isn't really interchange though it is? It's also poaching the brightest and the best

Sooverthis · 18/07/2016 18:30

Oops missed a whole page there

GarlicStake · 18/07/2016 18:37

Mollie, why do you think that being in the EU contributed to the deprivation in your area?

I'm anxious to know, too.
People I asked pre-referendum told me "immigrants taking everything", "industry moving out of UK because EU", and "sending too much money to unaccountable politburo".
Didn't really stack up.

GarlicStake · 18/07/2016 18:51

Not quite true that Welsh borders get nothing.

How Wales spent its €1.8bn.

The Marches spending its £105m.

Basically Mollie is another who thought her vote was kicking the rich.

Sadly, the 10% dear will be fine, those living in large metropolitan cities will be fine, rural areas that benefit from CAP funding, EU funding for public projects? Stuffed.

We might feel pain for a litle bit? Suggests you have no idea whats coming.

And we're asked not to tar you all with the same brush?

Badders123 · 18/07/2016 19:17

So take the funding away!
Right.....yeah that'll help.
The mines are all gone, you know!
I won't be coming back here again...I don't want to spend my money here. it feels different somehow.
Like the genie is out of the bottle and now we all know who is small minded and xenophobic. Plus side of that is that we can avoid them I suppose....
:(

Badders123 · 18/07/2016 19:21

Ah yes, immigrants.
It's schroedingers pole isn't it?
Imigrants coming here taking out jobs and all out benefits.
Erm....well...which one?
Every single piece of govt info I have found states clearly that immigrants contribute so much more than they take in terms of tax.
Madness.
Meanwhile mr farage who you all agreed with will get a €5k pension from the EU every month FOR LIFE

EverythingWillBeFine · 18/07/2016 19:22

garlic I agree.
But it seems that this point has never been that clearly explained either....

The CAP and the EU. Can I remind people of the reason for the agricultural policy of the EU? That was to make us (as Europe) as independant as possible in case of war etc...
That's he reason why it was so heavily subsidised and with there was so much quote in place (they wanted to ensure for example that all areas of agriculture would develop).

We are living in a world that is very different but you have ask yourself, is it OK to be so dependant food wise on imports?

Valentine2 · 18/07/2016 19:28

mollie
If a magic wand takes you out of EU tonight, you will wake up to the same air and sun I suppose. It makes sense doesn't it? Afterall, it's the rich you have just tried to kick. I can't believe this sometimes. The 2008 recession was global and NONE OF THE RICH 10% suffered like the rest of us.
The only reason you didn't get it then and didn't get it for referendum is because you are unable to actually understand the meaning of own goals. There you go, report me.
baddie
Yes I am also like you. I won't ever holiday in any Leave areas now. Not that I have had a holiday since I can remember anyway. But if I get a day to spend in my off time, I won't ever go to Wales/North east etc. No Cornwall either. It's Cambridge and London for me or Europe. we are not a nation anymore.

Valentine2 · 18/07/2016 19:28

Sorry it's badders
Blush

Badders123 · 18/07/2016 19:43

This doesn't feel like my country anymore.
Maybe it's been like this for a long time and I just didn't realise?
Luckily I have dual citizenship - as do my DC - so the mouth breathing knuckle draggers won't be able to stop my DC living or working in Europe if they wish.
My ds1 is 13 - he has already told me he is leaving the uk as soon as he can
I'm so so upset by this.

Valentine2 · 18/07/2016 20:07

badders
Yes exactly! I feel exactly the same. The very air seems poisoned. This is one more triumph for Tory/pseudo Tories in Labour. Managed to divide and will rule their own people now they have lost the colonies. Fuckers

KatieHopkinsAteMyHamster99 · 18/07/2016 21:20

Whatever happened to the OP? Did she ever explain to us why Brexit was so great after all?

(Slow handclap£

AntiqueSinger · 18/07/2016 22:45

The naivety of some people on this thread is breath taking. So far I have heard:

Politicians will have to pay more attention to the poorGrin Lol, what else can you say to that one? Anyone watch the news today? What is the first thing on TM's cabinet agenda? Spending money on the poor disenfranchised areas highlighted by brexit? Firm assurance of funds for the steel industry in Wales? Oh no, hang on, it was going ahead with Trident which will cost an initial 20 billion and rise to 100+ billion over thirty years. Priorities for spending firmly in place then. Wonder who will profit from this? Something tells me some of those pesky 10 percenters. Look it up.

Wages will go up for British workers because there will be a fall in immigrationHmm I think this one has been debunked already.

The drying up of EU funding won't make a difference to the poor because things are already shit - well if they're shit with funding they'll be just swanning without it!

The right to study and travel in Europe is only for the rich - Well tell that to my 17 year old DS, the only child in our family to go to university - who was hoping to study in the vastly more affordable Netherlands. I'll tell him that in future studying in Europe will only be available to the rich , because people voted out so the rich could stop goingConfused

whatwouldrondo · 18/07/2016 22:47

Well I knew there were not a few Little Englanders amongst the leave vote but little Welsh Marchians? Let's build a wall each side of Offa's dyke, it will keep those evil rich folk from Warwick and Cheltenham out and of course the new country will be entirely self sustaining. No need to import food, doctors, teachers, utilities, TV, Radio, in fact electrical and electronic devices generally ........Hmm

In fact there was a BBC series about just such a scenario filmed in the Welsh Marches in the 70s, about a post apocalyptic rural idyll, well not that idyllic, what with every sickness being life threatening and bully boys with guns stealing all the food and crops. It was called The Survivors....

This is the biggest drawback of democracy mixed up with evil media. Right now the BREXIT debate on channel 5 is trending on Twitter and the sheer stupidity and rhetoric is staggering. I wonder what the rest of the world thinks about us after seeing such things.

Psycobabble · 18/07/2016 23:07

I'm sick of people saying " look the ftse is up , nothing major has happened , told you so blah blah blah"

Do these people realise that we haven't actually left the eu yet !!

donthaveto · 19/07/2016 00:23

Badders123 - where in the North East ? and what funding has it been given by the EU ?

donthaveto · 19/07/2016 00:43
  1. I think all you remainers should just leave the UK immediately , before you all have nervous breakdowns , seriously , I'm worried for you . 2) Do you really care about any one other than yourselves , because I don't think you do , it all just sounds like rhetoric to me. 3) Do you really care about the poor people in this country ? 4) Do you really believe that the 52% that voted leave are more stupid than you lot? 5) If you have dual nationality and your 13 year old wants to leave the UK off you go , bye, I for one will not miss you . 6) I bet you are all NIMBY'S too .
Kaija · 19/07/2016 00:53

Donthaveto, how do you think that leaving the EU is going to benefit "the poor people in this country"?

Kaija · 19/07/2016 00:56

Some info on EU funding in the north east:

nelep.co.uk/funding/european-funding/

smallfox2002 · 19/07/2016 00:59

Nah you don't get to tell us what to do.

To answer 2, yes genuinely, I think that voting out for many regions of the UK will turn out to be an economic disaster. To 3, we now have a more right wing government than before in power, the poor people aren't going to benefit and one of the organisations that used to restore some equity to them has just been voted out.

To answer 4, no but I believe a lot of votes went the way they did on misunderstandings, xenophobia, fear and in the case of the "protest" votes which were significant, a lack of understandings of the issues being voted on.

Oh, but I'm certainly smarter than you dearie, off you run.
