To feel really positive about leaving the EU

kitty1976 · 13/07/2016 22:59

I know there has been lots of fear stories but in a few weeks since the vote we have managed to get a new PM who seems more than capable and we are now in control of our destiny without being ruled by an unelected and unaccountable EU. The EU has for a long time been a basket case and has condemned much of the youth of Southern Europe to decades of unemployment, it's a relief to be out. Do remember we are now free to negotiate our own trade deals with the rest of the world and most countries are not in the EU and seem to do well. There have been so many fear stories which have been peddled by self interest. I wonder in 5 years time how many remainers will be asking to rejoin the EU!!

I've just read the whole thread and can't see anyone being shouted down.

What I can see is the OP persistently refusing to answer any questions about what's so great about leaving the EU, just posting inaccuracies about unelected officials and the state of the economy.

Perhaps if the OP had answered just one question posed to her on the thread she chose to start, people would be more willing to listen.

Underparmummy · 14/07/2016 11:56

Yes, we have seen some stability as we have introduced some, stability, but the rate remains far below what it was when the referendum date was announced.

Ohwhatalovelysummer · 14/07/2016 11:57

Are you on the same thread as me Suburban?

Underparmummy · 14/07/2016 11:57

Surburban - I just need one real concrete example here to help me feel better about things and noone can give me one. I remain petrified.

Ohwhatalovelysummer · 14/07/2016 12:02

Interest rate from the BOE is unchanged, the pound may well rise again on this news... Either way, there are Pros and cons for both possibilities.

Happyon · 14/07/2016 12:08

And yet again, take it from a highly-skilled non-EU immigrant to the UK: FOM actually does mean something. It's really, really hard to settle, study, work etc... in a country without reciprocal rights, even if being sponsored by an employer. Those of you who think living and working in EU countries will somehow remain easy are deluded.

Ohwhatalovelysummer · 14/07/2016 12:15

Darn it... Hunt not gone after all...

sashh · 14/07/2016 12:22

People seem to be really out of touch with what most of the voting electorate thinks and when the majority of people disagree then just call them stupid!!!

A tiny majority of those eligible to vote, those most affected couldn't vote. How is a Zimbabwean on a student visa could vote in this but a French person living here for 20 years couldn't?

PW Botha had a similar majority back in the late 1980s/1990s - but most people affected couldn't vote.

"Your 4 month daughter who (unless you are very wealthy) wont be able to study in Europe now?"

What utter bollocks. Please check your bullshit before posting.

Underparmummy · 14/07/2016 13:58

Tell me then exactly what studying in Europe will be like in 18 years?

Grassgreendashhabi · 14/07/2016 14:02

I love seeing the utter crap people are throwing around.

SuburbanRhonda · 14/07/2016 14:07

That's nice for you, grass Hmm

smallfox2002 · 14/07/2016 14:31

TBF the studying in Europe thing is an issue, erasmus don't know how it will effect them, it could end up costing UK students.

JudyCoolibar · 14/07/2016 14:39

I very rarely comment on here but my 'Nasty bitches' comment was due to the complete and utter horrible responses from people regarding an opinion. I think it is unnecessary

I really don't get this. Yes, there are some rude comments, but there are plenty of perfectly polite comments where people have repeatedly asked OP and her supporters to give some reasons why they should be feeling so positive, and despite numerous responses the vast majority of them - including OP in particular - have simply failed to deal with that basic question. If you feel that asking people for information about and reasons for what they say amounts to bullying, I really think you need to go and join a Trappist convent.

Hi all

Just quickly popping in to confirm that 'fuck off' directed towards an individual is considered a personal attack by MNHQ, and would be removed when reported to us.

If you're concerned about any posts then please do hit the report button and we'll happily take a look.

SuburbanRhonda · 14/07/2016 14:55

Apparently I am, ohwhat, but if you've seen any posts from the OP where she answers questions about what she's positive about (I mean actual things, not "let's all be positive" BS), please do point them out to me as I must have missed them. As has everyone else.

JudyCoolibar · 14/07/2016 14:56

Just wondering why MN endorses the use of ODFOD in the acronyms list if it's banned?

SuburbanRhonda · 14/07/2016 15:01

judy

applesvpears · 14/07/2016 15:07

Judy - my comment was not to everyone.
Clearly I am right about the inappropriate posting as MN have removed some of the posts.

Ohwhatalovelysummer · 14/07/2016 15:19

But thats not the Point suburban, she asked if it was unreasonable to feel positive, not to be told

"Fuck off
You are an idiot
Are you on glue?
You are truly stupid
You are uneducated
You wouldnt even pass a GCSE etc..."

How the hell is she supposed to answer a question against that barrage?
And she never claimed to be an expert did she? Unlike some of the self appointed experts who stalk these threads. She just wants to be positive? Why cant she? Because you're not?

Ohwhatalovelysummer · 14/07/2016 15:21

Oh and sorry MNHQ to increase your workload 😬, But I have just reported a ton of offensive posts on this fred from some apparently innocent bystanders.

Birdandsparrow · 14/07/2016 16:07

She can be as positive as she likes but seeing as being positive about brexit is pretty much akin to putting her fingers in her ears and going lalala it would be unreasonable to ask others to join in the optimism.

Birdandsparrow · 14/07/2016 16:10

And it IS stupid to be positive about brexit, in the same way as it would be positive about leaping off a cliff. Just because you don't want to hear the reasons why brexit is bad for the uk doesn't mean they don't exist. Some things are a thoroughly bad idea, brexit is one of them.

practy · 14/07/2016 16:21

At the very minimum, Brexit will cost a lot of money, and cause financial and trade uncertainty for years. Negotiating new trade deals will take a lot of expertise time, and that will cost a lot of money. A lot of our laws are EU laws. So there will be a lot of lawyer time spent drafting new laws, and dealing with the legal aspects of actually leaving the EU. This is going to cost us a fortune.

The uncertainty means firms will not expand or even move to Britain. Why would they if they rely on foreign trade and do not yet know what the international trade deal will be?

So those affects are indisputable. The medium and long term affects are more a matter of conjecture. I think it will be negative overall for us, but that is an educated guess. But the short term negative impact for next 3-4 years are indisputable.

SoThisIsSummer · 14/07/2016 16:24

I've just read the whole thread and can't see anyone being shouted down

Well I am a few pages in and my jaw is on the floor even in normal MN terms its hideous.

Op I really feel for you.

Yes! I feel positive, a weight has been lifted.
I would love to say something about the so called intelligence of some of these posters but feel it would be beneath me.
