To feel really positive about leaving the EU

kitty1976 · 13/07/2016 22:59

I know there has been lots of fear stories but in a few weeks since the vote we have managed to get a new PM who seems more than capable and we are now in control of our destiny without being ruled by an unelected and unaccountable EU. The EU has for a long time been a basket case and has condemned much of the youth of Southern Europe to decades of unemployment, it's a relief to be out. Do remember we are now free to negotiate our own trade deals with the rest of the world and most countries are not in the EU and seem to do well. There have been so many fear stories which have been peddled by self interest. I wonder in 5 years time how many remainers will be asking to rejoin the EU!!

OP's posting style seems very familiar to me. Very familiar. Almost like that sandra person or her sidekick, the 'beetroot' person. It's amazing to think that there's two of them, never mind 3!
Never in all my days have I read such utter piffle in an OP and subsequent answers. It worries me. People like this can sit on juries. And, apparently, vote in referendums.

darceybussell · 14/07/2016 09:27

There seem to be a lot of threads being started all saying the same thing. It's like people start them up looking for an argument. To be honest we have to try and be as positive about it as we can. We don't have any other choice, it's happening whether we like it or not. I wanted to stay, I thought it was daft to walk away when no other countries get access to the single market without free movement, with free unicorns for everyone, so why would we? However I am wondering now whether more countries might want to leave the EU, the current arrangement might collapse, and the EU may turn into something completely different. Maybe we won't have a recession, maybe it will be ok. We don't have any choice but to hope so.

It's amazing that the leave vote won when you hear all the comments on mumsnet. It's like mumsnet has very little in common with the voting public dare I say not representive at all.

Stronza... You just fell short of calling them PIIGS. Why? That's exactly what you're trying to resurrect isn't it? Never mind the fact that these countries have lost over 20% of their native population (brightest and best).

Only PIIGS ignorant remainers are now throwing the Lehman crisis and house market bubble at Brexit..... Wow.

Next, they'll be defending why the EU TTIP was great for Britain and privatising the NHS was indeed a far better plan than restricting access to it.

There are far more EU gravy train-ers on here than even I'd anticipated.

OP, YANBU.

kitty1976 · 14/07/2016 09:51

Siemens is a good example who said that said the UK continued to matter and is a good place to do business whether it was inside or outside the EU.
But no doubt the doom mongers will continue to talk the economy down and will be happy if the UK fails so they can tell the people who voted out (the majority of people who voted) had no idea and are less educated!

Whatever your views I think you are a bunch of nasty bitches. Someone disagrees and you think that is okay to be rude and vile, whilst hiding behind your MN profiles. I wonder see if you would be so rude to someone face to face who had different views. Pathetic.

Madmumness001 · 14/07/2016 09:59

Wow u lot r mean. Go op for speaking Ur mind and having Ur own opinion. God help anyone who don't agree with u lot

Mrskeats · 14/07/2016 10:07

Is that post a joke mad?

ilovesooty · 14/07/2016 10:14

I'd say what I've said face to face with anyone spouting the drivel the OP has.

And I am another who felt European and now feel as though my identity has been taken away.

smallfox2002 · 14/07/2016 10:34

"it's amazing that the leave vote won when you hear all the comments on mumsnet. It's like mumsnet has very little in common with the voting public dare I say not representive at all."

Well as 48% of the population voted to remain I'd say it is quite representative and has quite a lot in common with the voting public.

This wasn't an overwhelming majority.

Also looking at your OP, you are yet another person who suddenly finds themselves to be an economic expert and one on trade too, although your understanding is so lacking that you'd fail to pass the GCSE.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 14/07/2016 10:45

We predicted labour would win last year too

MN is predominantly left wing and mc

Reasons I have heard for voting leave and remain some have been mirrored on here some not

People also express their anger/disappointment/joy on social media as in rl there isn't often the opportunity to do so or the inclination to if there was millions would be marching rather than signing

Ohwhatalovelysummer · 14/07/2016 10:45

Im not getting into this whole who is right and who is wrong debate AGAIN as only history will really give us the answers, but I am really sorry OP that by expressing your opinion, that those who have a different one have felt the need to treat you like this for daring to share it. A disgusting example of faux moral/intellectual superiority. Be positive, you are allowed, thats your right, as it is also the right of others to be dissapointed and that has been shared here many times, so I fail to see why its not ok for you to do the same.
I used to respect mumsnet and its members as a vibrant community of supportive and caring, open minded m, fair individuals. I am very much losing faith in that right now.

applesvpears · 14/07/2016 10:46

'And I am another who felt European and now feel as though my identity has been taken away' Hmm

squoosh · 14/07/2016 10:48

'doom mongers will continue to talk the economy down'

I love this theory that the economy can be 'talked down'. Almost charming in its naivety.................

BurstBees · 14/07/2016 10:50

Whatever your views I think you are a bunch of nasty bitches
Whatever your views? So that's the leavers and remainers and all points in between then?
...it is okay to be rude and vile whilst hiding behind your MN profiles
Like calling people nasty bitches? Whilst calling yourself applesvspears?
That's not your real name, surely!

Underparmummy · 14/07/2016 10:58

No, I dont feel anymore positive than I did on the morning of 24th June, when I felt sick to my stomach.

I think we are on a very dangerous path.

I think we will have our own youth unemployment crisis here soon after triggering article 50.

I hope to be proved wrong but I cannot see it yet. I especially cannot see it yet as there is no actually plan or real concrete ideas for our future post the EU.

I am glad people are feeling positive about the unknown. I cannot do it.

I also feel like Ive had my identity stripped from me.

Chris1234567890 · 14/07/2016 10:58

Sqoosh... I'd guess you weren't born during the Gerald Ratner farce....and many more have followed. Yep, 'talking down' has catastrophic effects. But it's ok, cause China's produce has always been far superior to anything the UK has produced? Oh hang on, no you'll find that it's simply cheaper... Oh hang on China aren't in the Eu...oh hang on....sorry, what was the EU economic policy again?

Alisvolatpropiis · 14/07/2016 10:58

apples

Yes,I'd be equally as forthright face to face if someone were to strike up such an asinine conversation with me without any ability to explain their reasoning.

HTH

JeanGenie23 · 14/07/2016 11:09

The Op up thread insinuated all sorts about remain voters, we are apparently rich snobs who read the guardian newspaper (Hmm) to use your phrase apples I could call her a rude bitch for that.

smallfox2002 · 14/07/2016 11:16

OP quotes Siemens as a business that is going to stay in the UK..

4 days after the vote Siemens freezes investment in the UK.

www.theguardian.com/environment/2016/jun/28/siemens-freezes-new-uk-wind-power-investment-following-brexit-vote

If it weren't so bad it would be laughable.

applesvpears · 14/07/2016 11:17

I very rarely comment on here but my 'Nasty bitches' comment was due to the complete and utter horrible responses from people regarding an opinion. I think it is unnecessary .

Oh and when I say 'hiding behind your MN profiles' I mean I cannot believe you would be that rude to someone away from MN. And if you are that type of person who cannot have a sensible debate then that says something about you.

Anyway my 4 month old beautiful daughter has now woken up so I have much more important things to do then be involved with this. Grin

Ohwhatalovelysummer · 14/07/2016 11:19

Here's some positives for today... Gove, gone. Nicky Morgan, gone. Hunt, gone. Osbourne, gone.

twofingerstoGideon · 14/07/2016 11:20

Why is the OP getting a hard time?
I know there has been lots of fear stories but in a few weeks since the vote we have managed to get a new PM who seems more than capable (of appointing a jingoistic fuckwit to the post of Foreign Minister)and we are now in control of our destiny (subject to the whims of our own government) without being ruled by an unelected and unaccountable EU (where to start with this? - try this link). The EU has for a long time been a basket case (empty rhetoric alert!) and has condemned much of the youth of Southern Europe to decades of unemployment (nothing at all with their own governments then... it was the EU what done it, like they done austerity here!*), it's a relief to be out etc etc

Underparmummy · 14/07/2016 11:20

Your 4 month daughter who (unless you are very wealthy) wont be able to study in Europe now?

Sorry, couldn't resist that.

Fucking hate it when people are all 'I must now PARENT MY CHILD and anything other than PARENTING MY CHILD is turdlike'.

applesvpears · 14/07/2016 11:24

No I am just a very proud new mum who cannot get enough of my amazing daughter. God talk about reading too much into it. Hmm
