Can we laugh or cry yet?

Are you still sane?

Will this insanity ever end?

Um, I vote we have one of these guys!

Have Boris and Jeremy been stabbed in the back? Please can we have some leaders?

late joiner to this thread. our country is a f*cking joke and an embarrassment.

a vote to leave that most people seem to regret and many leave voters not realising what would happen. it doesn't say much for our education system if people are googling 'what is the eu'.

labour and conservative parties falling apart, bitter divisions in both.

not knowing who is going to be in charge

not knowing what will happen to our jobs, wages, travel plans etc

the possibility of a second indyref (as a scot, I don't consider this a good thing and its embarrassing to see Nicola Sturgeon's knee jerk reaction and their response - they don't want to encourage their own separtists)

I hate Boris and Gove for what they've done to this country for their own careers. Theresa May for PM as she's the only one who seems capable of sorting everyone out (and I'd love to see her deal with wee jimmy krankie)

RedToothBrush · 30/06/2016 20:57

Chris Greyling will almost certainly get Brexit Department under May.

I am beginning to think that if May gets in, expect most of the same faces in the cabinet.

I'm also wondering whether May would have either Gove or Johnson. Particularly if Gove failed to make the second round in the leadership.

It would be controversial but I can't see her tolerating them and they might be viewed as divisive forces if they had an office. She strikes me as the type to just not suffer fools and the backstabbing, regardless of what anyone else thinks.

If she thinks it would be the best thing for the country/party she'd just ditch them.

I could be wildly off on this, but I don't think she'd even play the 'keep your enemies close thing'.

Rumour Alert:

Gove had 70 backers for Team Johnson.
Johnson had 30.

Its currently looking like:
May 76,
Crabb 21,
Leadsom 14,
Gove 12,
Fox 9

So what's happening with Gove's & Johnson's lot?

Are they going to pitch for someone else, or are they too embarrassed to publically support Gove?!

OP posts:
MitzyLeFrouf · 30/06/2016 21:26

I'm surprised Gove's number is so low. Once Murdoch gets officially behind him maybe the snakes will slither across.

Bearbehind · 30/06/2016 21:29

So what's happening with Gove's & Johnson's lot?

They'll be dispersed across all the candidates so Gove is out of the running too.

Murdoch won't get behind him- they don't actually want him to win.

It sounds far fetched but it actually makes perfect sense.

officerhinrika · 30/06/2016 21:31

I've been watching the Somme memorial tonight, it's never been more poignant.

RedToothBrush · 30/06/2016 21:41

Actually I tend to agree.

I think they would stitch up Gove, quite easily. They don't want turmoil, even if they have Brexit and want Brexit.

Nothing to add but Shock and Shock. I'm riveted by it all.

Wordsaremything · 30/06/2016 21:45

Agree with every fibre of my being, officer .
Thanks all for such an informative and funny thread.
Obsessively wAtching.

Bearbehind · 30/06/2016 21:48

It's looking more and more like Gove is the sacrificial lamb, May will get the difficult gig and Boris will bumble back in before 2020 and take over.

TendonQueen · 30/06/2016 21:48

I just can't keep up with events anymore. Hoping tomorrow will be quieter, which it may well be if Jeremy stays in his bunker.

I think it may be deceptively simple with Gove: he's not likeable. And annoying even if you agree with him.

DoinItFine · 30/06/2016 21:49

2 post-Brexit issues decided in Brussels

Coming out of the summit there are two certainties all countries seem agreed on:

1 no negotiation before notification

2 negotiations for post-Brext relationship can take place along with negotiations about how exit will work

There were some hawks claiming they woukd not support 2 pre-summit, but it was unlikely that such a punitive approach would be adopted.

(Link from economist.)

I know this isn't new or involving intrigue. But good to remember where we actually are apart from all the Tory hijinks.

bonnie1981 · 30/06/2016 21:50

apparently 60,000 new members to the labour party. evidently people wanting corbyn to remain. maybe the work of the momentum group?

Looks like the labour party are more fucked than they were

EatsShitAndLeaves · 30/06/2016 21:55

Preston posted that figure on Twitter - however most of the replies are people saying they have joined in the last week to vote against Corbyn not to save him.

Dozer · 30/06/2016 21:56

Labour's method of electing leaders does seem really politically dodgy now!

merrymouse · 30/06/2016 22:00

Obviously we have no idea what new weirdness will occur tomorrow, never mind at the next election. However, in what scenario could the Tories lose the next election, whoever they pick?

They fail to win a majority and have to form another coalition - with UKIP? With the libdems again? With the right wing of the Labour Party?

The Labour Party gets it together and becomes electable?

RedToothBrush · 30/06/2016 22:03

I suspect that Dacre/Murdoch like to pull the strings. They just don't like to be SEEN to do it.

It could be possible that SOMEONE also knew this, when they leaked that email. Maybe that was the real purpose of the leak; to get Gove and Johnson in one fell swoop.

I initially assumed it was just get Johnson, but I'm beginning to wonder.

As much as Dacre / Murdoch are manipulators, I don't think they would like be associated with Gove today either.

Absolutely bearBehind. In fact some of us predicted May or Give to be the fall guy back in thread 1 i think

This is all engineered for Johnson to take th glory in about 2.5 years time.

MitzyLeFrouf · 30/06/2016 22:07

I think Johnson's glory moment has passed. As far as a lot of the public see it he's bottled it.

MajesticWhine · 30/06/2016 22:09

Tweeted by Ewan McGregor

@BorisJohnson You spineless c$&t You lead this ludicrous campaign to leave EU. Win, and now fuc& off to let someone else clear up your mess.

I could not have said it better myself.

MaterofDragons · 30/06/2016 22:09

Dammit I had to work and have missed so much.

Heseltine BJ comment interesting. I think it was someone at the bbc who said the assassin never wins in politics. Heseltine was Thatcher's assassin. Boris was Cameron's. Neither became PM.

Can only hope Gove as BJ's assassin goes the same way.

GingerIvy · 30/06/2016 22:12

No Gove, no Crabb. I don't think Gove will beat May, but I am hoping Crabb is defeated prior to Gove, just to remove the chance.

Bearbehind · 30/06/2016 22:14

I think Johnson's glory moment has passed. As far as a lot of the public see it he's bottled it.

I disagree- he has a very powerful ally- the media.

He's already being portrayed as the victim who's been stabbed in the back- that's pretty impressive given the reality of the situation; he didn't expect to win, panicked, tried softening the expectations in his Telegraph piece, realised that wasn't going to work so came up with plan B revision 2.

The public have short memories and by the time the UK has been dragged through whatever kind of hell Brexit will entail, he'll be set up as the saviour of us all.
