Gove cannot become Prime Minister, he CANNOT

if that happens, fuck it, we're moving back home and DH will just have to learn French. He can deal.

HalleLouja · 30/06/2016 14:05

Nicky Morgan will obviously be new home secretary in the new government if Gove wins. Just speculating.

GingerIvy · 30/06/2016 14:05

Gove cannot walk a straight path. Seriously. Let's go this way. Oh wait, let's go this way instead. Oh wait....

Here's hoping Nicky Morgan being associated with his campaign will do some damage to him.

Showmethewaytogohome · 30/06/2016 14:05

So that's where Gideon was all last weekend! I wonder if he feels dirty now?

MaterofDragons · 30/06/2016 14:06

Keir Starmer is not too shabby

RedToothBrush · 30/06/2016 14:08

Gove is way to intelligent to be anyone's puppet

Are you kidding me?

Don't Gove, Osborne and Morgan seem a bit of an "unholy triad" to risk putting before people? Seriously? A LOT of bad feeling towards all 3, to be honest. If we ended up in a GE (just on the off chance it happens, although I know they're not planning on it), I'd be surprised if they had a chance. Even against Corbyn, I think they'd struggle.

I don't think Farron has played this well. He's getting lots of support right now, saying they'll never hit the big red button. But he's not taking the EU itself into account. I don't think that's an option anymore. And he's painting himself into a corner. His support is going to turn savage if he has to backtrack.

MaterofDragons · 30/06/2016 14:12

Calm down Sarah. If course Mikey is vewy vewy clever and more cleverer than George. So there.

nauticant · 30/06/2016 14:13

The way this has worked has been really interesting. Johnson, Gove, and Farage go charging in with anti-immigration in the lead supported by lies. They get to the winning post and the anti-immigration guy is dropped immediately and then a few days later the lying guy is dropped. The remaining guy, Gove, is a bit tainted but still relatively clean compared to the two who were dropped.

Planning taking place for no Scottish Brexit.

From the guardian liveblog:

"Discussions on transitional arrangements for an independent Scotland to remain in the European Union (EU) after the UK leaves are taking place in Brussels, a former senior adviser to the European Commission (EC) has disclosed.

As the Press Association reports, Dr Kirsty Hughes told MSPs discussions are taking place about putting Scotland in a “transitional holding pen” after Brexit to avoid “an absurd out and then in process”.

She urged MSPs to hold a second independence referendum by summer 2017 at the latest, if it is judged to be in the best interests of Scotland, to allow the EU to start work on these transitional arrangements."

GingerIvy · 30/06/2016 14:14

If it was a plan, Johnson and Farage were not in on it. lol

GingerIvy · 30/06/2016 14:15

Oh good god, they're going to push for indyref2 in summer? They've lost their marbles.

funnyperson · 30/06/2016 14:15

marking place

I predict Gove will win the tory leadership contest and the whole country will veer to the far right and nationalism will have a field day while Corbyn dies of a heart attack.

I'm with a previous poster who pointed out that over 65% of labour voters voted remain. Its the Tories who have voted leave, yet Corbyn is being asked to fall on his sword. There is a piece of this puzzle missing and I think it is the Chilcot inquiry.

I know she lurks among us.............

The LibDems are better at Europe than any other UK party.

I think Farron's smart.

If Labour were not being a shower of fuck ups, they would be talking up how they will oppose a Tory Brexit and get the best deal for working people in any negotiations, and letting Farron walk beside them questioning the legitimacy of what the Tories have inflicted on the UK.

GingerIvy · 30/06/2016 14:18

funnyperson I agree, Chilcot figures in there somewhere.

Chalalala · 30/06/2016 14:19

Farron will never have to backtrack since the Lib Dems will never be in power

they can run on a (likely unrealistic) "rejoin the EU" platform forever

GingerIvy · 30/06/2016 14:19

I think if Scotland ended up going through with indyref2 over the Brexit in summer 2017, and then we stayed in the EU, NS might just implode.

DoinItFine · 30/06/2016 14:21

If Sturgeon has negotiated an acceptable deal for Scotland in the EU by next year, and what's on offer for the rest of the UK doesn't look too great, then Indyref2 would be very winnable.

Sturgeon has just bought herself a year and some genuine options while the Westminster parties are playing leadership games.

Which the big two have both lost.

Chalalala · 30/06/2016 14:22

I don't get what the Blairites' Chilcot strategy is...

surely it would be better for Labour if the current leader was untainted by the whole thing - he could apologize with some credibility, say "we've been very very bad", and no one can ask him the tough questions since he's not guilty. Then the PLP can get rid of him when the whole thing starts dying down

why would they want to put themselves in the spotlight of leadership, right when the report is about to come out?

GingerIvy · 30/06/2016 14:23

If. I don't think they'll deal with her. Remains to be seen, obviously. But Spain and possibly others are going to put their oars in, as they have concerns over setting a precedent. How long can she postpone it to wait and see if we actually push the button? it's a bit like a game of chicken.

Chalalala · 30/06/2016 14:23

I'm developing a serious girl crush on Nicola Sturgeon, is that bad?

(I don't know anything about SNP politics apart from the fact that they like the EU and don't like the Tories, which works for me)

DoinItFine · 30/06/2016 14:24

They're already dealing with her.
