Democracy 'Intelligent' people vs 'stupid' people

Some people are too stupid to be allowed to vote. I've been hearing a lot of this since the referendum.

Should this come into democracy? Or is it possible that different socio economic, political and regional groups within a country have very different experiences, wants, needs, hopes and aspirations. Chances are these will differ from other groups of people. Does this somehow invalidate their views?

You are starting to sound a bit like Nigle Farage, nothing to back up what you claim.

What makes it obvious, where is the proof that voters typed out those searches?

Jasonandyawegunorts · 29/06/2016 14:40

I give up. My mama always told me not to argue with stupid, she was right. Too painful!

That's an "I can't answer why i think it's voters" then?

user1467101855 · 29/06/2016 14:41

Duh. Of course not. The day after Brexit, no adult used google in the UK, only school children. Makes perfect sense. Sheesh.
Hmm

Jasonandyawegunorts · 29/06/2016 14:42

The irony of spouting about misinformed public is amazing....

user1467101855 · 29/06/2016 14:42

Even all the searches at night-time, it was eager toddlers thirsty for EU knowledge. Obviously!

Jasonandyawegunorts · 29/06/2016 14:42

Duh. Of course not. The day after Brexit, no adult used google in the UK, only school children. Makes perfect sense. Sheesh

That's not what i asked.

The answer is no, you don't know it was voters.

whiteDragon · 29/06/2016 14:43

I said people who can't answer simple questions on the topic shouldn't be allowed to vote

Yes that couldn't at all be manipulated Hmm

Who gets to set the questions that decide this - how do you ensure the questions are fair to everyone from all backgrounds - how can assure that all tests administered are done fairly and their is no corruption. Once the precedence is set - how do you ensure this idea doesn't spread to all referendums or all public votes. If you don't understand how our parliament system works would you bare people from voting in general elections?

If large swaths of the voting population fail the test do you not think there would be large scale anger and possible revolt?

There are reasons we don't regularly have referendums - if they called one on hanging the general public would vote to bring it back and our parliamentarians don't want that.

I think you can argue having a referendum on such a complex issue was a big mistake - I don't think it follows that sections of the public should be denied the vote - I think that is very dangerous.

user1467101855 · 29/06/2016 14:43

The answer is no, you don't know it was voters

The answer of course a sizeable proportion of it was voters. Fuck me its like pulling teeth.

user1467101855 · 29/06/2016 14:44

You think? Asking the people who voted for Boaty McBoatface was a sensible idea?

CoteDAzur · 29/06/2016 14:44

"The stock market is now back above its 5 year average and the £ is rising."

It would be funny to watch Brexiters clutching at straws if it were not so sad.

Is "5-year average" an important stock market indicator, then? Please do explain why you think it significant for the future that FTSE rallied in 2013.

(FYI: Moving averages are considered relevant by technical analysis fans but only up to 200-days. I can't think of a reason why anyone would calculate a 5- year moving average.)

If you look back far enough, you will of course see that the stock market indices are higher now than then. That just means you're deluding yourself that you're A-OK.

And Pound is rising? Here is the GBP/USD graph. Show us where you see it rising.

Statistics?
Proof?
anything to back this up?

Anything at all, hearsay even?

Jasonandyawegunorts · 29/06/2016 14:45

It's a very simple request. How do you know it was adults making the searches?
How do you know it was voters?

whiteDragon · 29/06/2016 14:45

The day after Brexit, no adult used google in the UK, only school children. Makes perfect sense. Sheesh.

You don't think some search terms might have been a starting point for adults to understand the implications of leaving - that just not possible in your view?

I certainly wasn't expecting a leave vote - so my need to know more about the EU and the implications to leaving has increased.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 29/06/2016 14:46

Show us where you see it rising.
The last 12 hours. no joke or trolling this time.

user1467101855 · 29/06/2016 14:47

VEry simple answer for a simple mind: because its completely fucking illogical that it was all children, even the ones at night time, for starters.
Plus some other wibbly wobbly techy sciencey answers which you would never get your head around, so why fucking bother?

Itinerary · 29/06/2016 14:47

Nobody would have lost their jobs as a direct and quick result of a Remain vote. The pound wou;dn't have tanked, pensions wouldn't be worth less the very next day.

What about people who haven't been able to get a job at all, or are very low paid, due to unrealistic EU policies? British businesses who can't compete with international corporates that spend vast sums on lobbying the EU? Regarding the pound, we certainly aren't yet seeing the long-term results economically and Osborne is hurriedly backpedalling on his extreme predictions.

Remaining would mean still being stuck in a political unit which, with its distant bureaucracy, failing currency and inflexibility, isn't right for the long-term good of our country. Britain just isn't a good fit for the EU. Leaders are describing Brexit as a "divorce" and it would be far healthier to be "Just Good Friends" with other EU countries, as we make new links around the world that suit us much better.

Finally, please don't forget that Leave voters are affected by the economy at least as much as anyone else, yet still believe escaping the EU is even more important.

You don't know then?

user1467101855 · 29/06/2016 14:48

You don't think some search terms might have been a starting point for adults to understand the implications of leaving - that just not possible in your view?

THAT IS THE EXACT PROBLEM, FFS! THEY NEEDED TO UNDERSTAND THAT BEFORE THE VOTE NOT AFTER!

This thread was about stupid voters, and look how many have appeared"!

whiteDragon · 29/06/2016 14:49

You think? Asking the people who voted for Boaty McBoatface was a sensible idea?

I didn't call it - I didn't want it. I voted to stay and wasn't expect the out vote. I'd like a second vote or parliament to step in and stop exit.

It was called by a Tory leader hoping to unit his party and taken advantage of by some very cynical people.

Doesn't mean you get to disenfranchise people who think differently from you just because you don't like the way they voted. It also doesn't help to assume everyone but you is stupid.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 29/06/2016 14:49

I know, You can't answer a simple question

petitpois55 · 29/06/2016 14:51

This is only in relation to those 'stupid' people who voted leave right?
Yes it is.Got it in one.

user1467101855 · 29/06/2016 14:52

Jasonandyawegunorts · 29/06/2016 14:53

That pretty much sums things up for stupid voters.

Itinerary · 29/06/2016 14:55

Asking the people who voted for Boaty McBoatface was a sensible idea?

Why not? At least they are up for some individuality.
