To listen to people talk, it seems we have turned into a nation of wimpy, whinging apologists.

''I'm so embarrassed''
''I'm so ashamed''
''I'm full of despair''
''I'm so sorry''
''My life is ruined'
''Please accept my apologies''

Stop bloody whinging and saying sorry.

How do you think this tail between the legs cowed talk makes us look to the rest of the world? Hmm
It's about time we all grew up, put on a united front and got on with things
Show everybody what we're really made of.

and breathe

As long as it IS peaceful.

I read your original post as saying 'fascist march'.

It is faintly amusing to think that the people mocking people for their positivity seem to think that their negativity is any better.

pots pans.

OP, you have failed to say anything meaningful in this thread at all. Some people seem to be treating the whole referendum discussion as though it can be conducted through inspirational memes on Facebook. Pointless platitudes about 'pulling together' and ludicrous analogies about wounded animals are frankly embarrassing in the face of the passionate and articulate arguments presented by angry and determined Remainers who, far from 'whinging' are expressing important and significant points which need to be heard - this was a very close result and whichever way it had gone, we cannot expect half the voters to shut up about it now. All your drivel about presenting a united front is vacuous hot air - there is deep division and it will not be healed by telling people to stop complaining. These discussions need to happen. They need to happen on Mumsnet, they need to happen on social media, they need to happen in workplaces and among friends and families, they need to happen in Parliament. Political engagement is a good thing. These are tumultuous times, there are a lot of changes ahead and 'pulling together' is a meaningless concept. Stop talking in cliches, it's painful and embarrassing.

TheElementsSong · 29/06/2016 11:39

Op sadly some of the posters on here seem to be wholly negative

"The power of positive thinking"
"If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem"

Oh, have we had "There is no 'I' in TEAM" yet?

This post has been brought to you by Cliches-R-Us Halo

Again I ask, what actual things do you expect people to do?

iwantadragon · 29/06/2016 11:42

Pointless platitudes about 'pulling together' and ludicrous analogies about wounded animals are frankly embarrassing

what about all the pointless drivel out there along the lines of:

'The Sky is Crying'
'The Old have WRECKED our lives! Waaaaah!
(despite the fact they saved our sorry asses in the past. But lets not get into that)
We're on a Ship Without A- Rudder? jfc Grin

I think you'll find, there's overreaction and embarrassing stuff from both sides.

On A Ship Without A Rudder
wins. 10/10 for ludicrous drivel.

So OP, care to tell me what I'm pulling and which positive thoughts I should be thinking?

"As long as it IS peaceful.

I read your original post as saying 'fascist march'."

My post said: "If you do want something active to do and are in the right part of the country, a fascist march is scheduled for Southampton on Saturday 11 a.m.: as many of us as possible are turning up to protest against this racist presence in our city."

What did you suppose "this racist presence" referred to if not the fascist group against which we will be protesting? I shall be entirely peaceful. But I will be there to show that this is not what all of Southampton thinks. Last time this mob organised a rally they were completely outnumbered by the counter-march. Is that bad?

iwantadragon · 29/06/2016 11:45

I'm Ashamed To Be British

comes a close, self-deprecating, sniveling second.

iwantadragon · 29/06/2016 11:47

You might want to re-phrase your invitation.
At first glance, the wording is structure in such a way that it looks as if you are the one planning the fascist march.

I see now that that's not what you mean. But the wording should be different.

OP posts:
flippinada · 29/06/2016 11:50

I expect OP thinks we shouldn't protest against racists and fascists because that would be rude and bad manners and "sinking to their level".

We should politely ask them not to. That's the British way you see.

sorenofthejnaii · 29/06/2016 11:51

despite the fact they saved our sorry asses in the past. But lets not get into that

Really - WW2 was fought by 90 yr olds.

Step · 29/06/2016 11:52

No I'm not joining a united front. I'm going to fight these bastards. I'm going to have the courage of my convictions and stand up for what I believe in. I'm going to whinge and fecking kick and scream and do anything I can to stop this fucking idiocy. Count me IN for a fight against these right wing twats.

TheElementsSong · 29/06/2016 11:52

I thought cory's original post was perfectly clear.

pippilongstoking · 29/06/2016 11:52

Oh... you must have a plan, then, on how exactly we are supposed to get on. Perhaps, you might take a helm, as the there is obviously no one prepared to do this from the winning side?

sorenofthejnaii · 29/06/2016 11:54

On A Ship Without A Rudder

On choppy seas and the nearest safe haven doesn't want to let us in. The Captain has resigned and they're arguing over who should take over and which direction to go. And who knows where the wind is blowing.

And we've just got past the rough tide of a recession.

That analogy can really be stretched if you want.

Or to put it another way, we're not out of the storm yet. It's choppy waters and we don't know what heading to take.

corythatwas · 29/06/2016 11:56

Very well rephrased invitation:

A DEMONSTRATION AGAINST RACISM AND FASCISM IS PLANNED IN SOUTHAMPTON AT 11 A.M. SATURDAY 2 JULY TO PROTEST AGAINST THE FASCIST MARCH ORGANISED BY THE FASCIST GROUP SOUTH COAST RESISTANCE FOR THE SAME TIME. WE NEED TO SHOW THESE PEOPLE THAT THEIR VIEWS ARE NOT SHARED BY THE MAJORITY OF OUR INHABITANTS. PLEASE JOIN US AT THE BARGATE AT 11 A.M.

Will you be joining us, OP?

flippinada · 29/06/2016 11:56

Yes, cory's post was perfectly clear.

lasttimeround · 29/06/2016 12:16

Yes it bothers me that people hold racist views pre-referendum. But as a visible minority it bothers me a thousand times more that they now feel emboldened to tell me about it, to shout at me and to threaten. me. That makes an enormous difference to my life and my ability to go about my business feeling safe.

papayasareyum · 29/06/2016 12:26

the problem OP, is that the remainers need to continue the negativity and screaming and demonstrating and doom mongering and raging to increase (they hope) the chance of a second referendum. They're doing quite an impressive 'job' thus far

TheElementsSong · 29/06/2016 12:37

papaya I personally do not support a second referendum. However, I dispute utterly that pointing out the series of events that have taken place since Leave won is "doom mongering" or "negativity". Some of us prefer the technical term "reality".

And I ask again, care to tell me what I'm pulling and which positive thoughts I should be thinking?

corythatwas · 29/06/2016 12:48

According to the Independent, the petition for a second referendum was set up before the results were in by a Leave supporter who thought Remain would win: he has apparently admitted doing so. Which rather suggests that not all Leave supporters would have taken defeat graciously either.

Tanith · 29/06/2016 12:57

I've got another catchphrase cliché that was popular a few years ago:

Plan the work and work the plan

Erm...!

Razorlightnight · 29/06/2016 13:04

The already racist people now believe they have the backing of 52% of the population.
