Corbyn still hanging in there

I actually quite admire that. Hanging tough. I think it shows a sharp contrast to Cameron who can't get out of things soon enough.

Could Corbyn actually be the next PM?

And his minder McDonnell is on R4, speaking FOR him again. Why can't he speak for himself? It would be far more credible.

GlassCircles · 04/07/2016 08:56

Interesting - he has made a flat denial that Corbyn is refusing to meet the likes of Eagle and Watson, and when pushed ssid Jeremy's open door policy meant he would be happy to meet anyone, including them, today. Wonder if it will happen!

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 04/07/2016 09:00

Well apparently he won't be at the weekly plp tonight.

No surprises there. He hardly ever turns up.

bojorojo · 04/07/2016 10:08

I think the Unions are being the "go-betweens" for a meeting. McClusky has been on all the news outlets too. However, there are plenty of reaons to think Union members voted leave in large numbers and vote UKIP as well. Lots of union members are disconnected from the Labour Party.

So, we appear to have the Labour Leader who will not speak to anyone unless he has minders. What a total farce. There is no open door policy and everyone knows that. The door is only open to a select few. Why did the Labour members not realise JC was a "thorn in the side" politician and not a leader? He is a pressure group minority leader. The people who are Labour Members already live in Labour held seats so how are they ever going to win a majority of seats now that Scotland is SNP? They will never win with JC, so what is the point of having him? Labour supporters have been truly duped.

As I have said on another thread, people are far too easily swayed by "easy" political ideas and one-liners. "Jez We Can" springs to mind. As if this was ever going to be a new way forward for politics? It will never happen for ordinary peope if the leadership of the Labour party cannot engage enough people in our parliamentary system to vote for them to gain the necessary seats. If they wanted some form of PR as a system, they should have stood on that ticket, but they did not, any more than the Conservatives did. You make your bed, you lie in it.

GlassCircles · 04/07/2016 13:04

My FB is full of Momentum memes saying things like "Poor heroic Jeremy is being shouted at and bullied by evil Labour MPs but he never gets angry and shouts back - that's who we want dealing with the Russians, Americans and EU"

No appreciation of the irony that the Golden Jeremy doesn't actually speak to anyone who isn't a rabid fan, McDonnell deals with the nasties for him.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/07/2016 13:31

bojo - the 2nd para of your sun 14:00 post is absolutely spot-on.

Chris1234567890 · 06/07/2016 17:12

Jeremy Corbyn has just apologised on behalf of the Labour Party to all families, service personnel and Iraq civilians for the war in Iraq.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 06/07/2016 17:25

Jeremy Corbyn has just apologised on behalf of the Labour Party to all families, service personnel and Iraq civilians for the war in Iraq.

Ed Miliband had done this previously.

Chris1234567890 · 06/07/2016 17:56

"Ed Miliband had done this previously."

Where and when?

howtorebuild · 06/07/2016 17:59

It needed repeating.

CherryPicking · 06/07/2016 18:07

He has more charisma than the entire Tory front bench combined! And it stems from integrity and principles - so its win-win.

Chris1234567890 · 06/07/2016 18:16

Piglet ?? "Ed Miliband had done this previously."

Where and when?

Happy to accept if you can linky please, but hundreds of people have said it was 'wrong' , we're talking the leader of the labour party has today apologised on behalf of the Labour Party. That is now Labours position on this whole sorry mess.

TheBathroomSink · 06/07/2016 19:21

EM said it was wrong but it wasn't specifically an apology:

"Iraq was an issue that divided our party and our country. Many sincerely believed that the world faced a real threat.
"I criticise nobody faced with making the toughest of decisions and I honour our troops who fought and died there. But I do believe that we were wrong. Wrong to take Britain to war and we need to be honest about that."

lalalonglegs · 06/07/2016 20:14

There were rumours that Corbyn would go after he got to denounce Blair once the Chilcott report was published... anyone think that he might? (To my mind, he managed to remain dry and bloodless even while he was fulfilling this alleged long-time ambition.)

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 06/07/2016 20:27

I doubt he will go he enjoys the position of power too much

caitlinohara · 06/07/2016 20:27

I'm really disappointed (again) in him today, I was hoping for a bit more venom as well.

I just don't get it. I don't get all this "but he's our democratically elected leader" shit. Yes, but you all vote Labour anyway, cos you're in the Labour party. Who is he going to win over? This Momentum stuff is bollocks. You don't win an election that way. We need someone who can win votes back from UKIP, not someone who can impress a few students. Why can't they admit that they were wrong and that someone else might do a better job? Is it because there is no one else? I'm proper gutted that Dan Jarvis ruled himself out. Ex-forces. That = votes I reckon.

GlassCircles · 06/07/2016 22:32

I don't get it either. I had nothing against him when he was elected, I am a long time Labour voter. I don't disagree with left-wing anti-austerity politics.

But over time he and the whole Momentum vibe just seem so backward, sixth-form rebel and amateurish (though I'm sure they like to think of themselves as ground-breaking). It is seriously irritating that he doesn't engage with anyone perceived as being hostile to him - I'm sure he wouldn't even turn up to PMQs given half a chance.

GlassCircles · 06/07/2016 22:41

And it looks like the leadership challenge thing has ground to a halt as, due to the bonkers Labour system, the MPs have zero say in what happens.

Meanwhile he can't form a serious opposition as he's struggling to find anyone who will work with him .

merrymouse · 06/07/2016 22:43

He certainly hasn't made much of an effort to engage with the wider electorate since the referendum.

GlassCircles · 06/07/2016 22:47

It's such a missed opportunity - Labour should be all over the Tories at the moment, but he just skulks around looking miserable and, apparently, avoiding speaking to anyone except McDonnell and Abbott, while his MPs stand by helplessly.

Capricorn76 · 06/07/2016 23:00

Jeremy 'High Sparrow' Corbyn is part of a Tory plot to destroy the Labour party. That can be the only explanation Grin.

Chris1234567890 · 07/07/2016 01:04

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/angela-eagle-s-constituency-branch-issues-statement-supporting-jeremy-corbyn-as-labour-leader-a7124241.html

So JC has ensured Blairs poitical party has apologised for Blairs war, (which can never be retracted) and was what I believed was the cummulation of 13 years principled ire. But he was right to cut Blair adrift.

Now front runner Angela Eagles constituency has clearly backed Corbyn.. I would have had my money on a resignation tomorrow, until Wallasey did this.....
He may indeed keep digging in....but how or where that will leave the Labour party, heavens knows. If the party faithful, stick to their support of JC, its an interesting dichotomy, vote for your local representative, but then vote for a leader your representative wont work with...... This really cant end well for the LP unless he now voluntarily steps down.

GlassCircles · 07/07/2016 07:52

It sounds like there is a lot of behind the scenes stuff going on as they try to work out who has a legal right to the name and assets of the Labour party. What a bloody shambles.

merrymouse · 07/07/2016 08:04

How big is Wallasey Labour Party?

26 thousand people voted for Angela Eagle at the last election. That is who she represents.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 07/07/2016 08:06

26 thousand people voted for Angela Eagle at the last election. That is who she represents.

Exactly. The MPs represent the 9million voters and ALL their constituents. Not just the 'membership'. Despite what certain 'Corbynites' want to believe.
