The margin by which Leave won is too small to base such a huge decision on. This needs to be debated further especially now it's clear many people based their decision on misrepresentations made by Brexit campaigners on immigration and spending on NHS or made a protest vote.

Johnson is continuing with the myths claiming Britain will still be in Europe. Of course we will be geographically but that's all!

The referendum was advisory and not legally binding. If you want to stay in the EU please email your MP today.

Eve This is not a scare tactic - read BOZO's articles FGS. We will get nothing new. His proposal is everything is the same og but we can bring a points system in for immigration. The EU won't agree to this. They will not give us free movement in return

Oh and then read the financial pages. The uncertainty in the city. The fact that council have approached the government to ask where their funding will come from

BOZO never wanted this - they didn't expect or want to win. He was using it a vehicle to become PM - that is all

These are facts - emotive language like 'scare tactics' do not help. Over time I am hoping that people can see they have been conned

EveOnline2016 · 27/06/2016 09:44

As a leaver I would be upset if the paperwork wasn't put forward. However what the government decide to do will happen.

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 27/06/2016 09:45

Because, OurBlanche, no Remain voters are currently shouting at me saying 'you lost, we have to leave the EU now, deal with it, you sore loser.'

But if any pop up with misconceptions about the UK's democratic processes, I'll be first in line to put them right.

Showmethewaytogohome · 27/06/2016 09:46

Muddling Yes yes - and I can throw in a pen with a wobbling unicorn on top so he can underline bits he doesn't understand

Showmethewaytogohome · 27/06/2016 09:48

Eve I can not share your trust in the 'government' . We have ALL been shafted left right and center

GreenGoth89 · 27/06/2016 09:49

We only live in a democracy when people are able to vote based upon truthful information not down right lies like Boris and Farage have spouted. When people can only vote on lies it is no longer a democracy. YANBU and I shall be writing to my MP!

WeekendAway · 27/06/2016 09:49

Ok thank you BoBS

AuntDotsie · 27/06/2016 09:50

I've written to mine. I asked for his thoughts on this mess, what he thinks is going to happen and how he's going to represent the views of the majority of his electorate who did actually vote remain.

We can debate back and forth about this hallowed democracy everyone keeps shouting about. Although I realise some will lambast me for this, I personally question the democracy of allowing a country to vote on a question so fundamental, so life-changing and so irrevocable as this one whilst there was so much misinformation and out-and-out lies being bandied around. There's enough anecdotal evidence from leavers, even from Daily Mail readers, that they feel duped and lied to already. They're not going to get what they thought they were voting for or against. How is that democracy?

If we're going to do this we should do it for the right reasons, which would include every single voter being absolutely crystal clear on the implications and consequences. This would involve actually having a precise plan, a strategy. We don't have any of that. What we have is a PM who's just shrugged and turned his back on us, a leave campaign whose leader seems extraordinarily pro-EU in his recent article, a Labour leader whose campaign was feeble at best and whose party is currently imploding, and we have absolutely no idea about what's going to happen in any concrete terms. Meanwhile, the country is bitterly divided and we're seeing a massive increase in racist incidents. Our leaders are off playing cricket or sitting on their hands.

I don't think a second referendum to make sure we all still feel the same is undemocratic in the slightest. After all, if the leave campaign is so sure, so secure that its arguments are so pure and strong, then they have nothing to worry about, do they? We shouldn't tear this country apart based on a lie.

Showmethewaytogohome · 27/06/2016 09:51

There is also a possible senario that MP's will become more representative to save their own skins atthe next election

Don't forget 42% of Tory voters voted remain. 75% of MP's support remain. If a Leave MP looks at his constituents and the majority were for remain this may change his position and if any kind of debate is held around any government formed, the EU, article 50 etc we could see rebellions very quickly

So write to your Mp - it is your democratic right. And actually I want to know what the hell they are going to do to sort out this mess

gallicgirl · 27/06/2016 09:52

I voted remain but I don't think it's an especially good idea to run a second referendum. It sounds like we can't be trusted.
There was plenty of accurate information out there and if voters were suckered in by the lies they wanted to believe then I'm afraid that's no different than any other election.

If you do want to write to your MP then I think we should be airing what we want to see in the negotiations. If leave is inevitable then at least lets be part of the conversation that shapes our future.

Shizzlestix · 27/06/2016 09:53

YABU, of course it was legal, it was a democratic vote. You're being ridiculous.

iammamam · 27/06/2016 09:55

Not much point tbh, my local MP votes the opposite way to me every time Angry

SpaceKablooie · 27/06/2016 09:56

Just adding my voice to support the OP.

'Calm down dear, accept that this is democracy and move on' Angry
Please stop trying to silence people. I plan to exercise my democratic right by writing to my MP about this, and I wouldn't object to you exercising yours if this was the other way round.

AnnPerkins · 27/06/2016 09:59

Why not write to your MP? Stay engaged in the process, it looks like it's going to be a long one.

There isn't just one form of Brexit that will be put before Parliament for the MPs to vote on as a formality. The Brexit that Johnson is describing in today's Telegraph is unlikely to be the one that many Leavers wanted. I can see months of infighting amongst Leavers, Johnson will be trying to reunite his party and Farage will apparently have a 'place at the table' when it comes to planning and strategy - he will not be in favour of Johnson's version.

At the same time, MPs who were in favour of Remain will be wanting to vote for what they consider to be the most favourable terms of exit possible.

All of the this IS democracy in action. We should be engaged with it.

TheLionSleepsAha · 27/06/2016 09:59

I voted leave, the £350 million ish saving I assumed will be spent on NHS, education, defence, whatever. I didn't take it as literally all savings would go on the NHS. This 'duped' thing is just remainers stirring the pot.

emeraldlakes · 27/06/2016 10:02

The referendum was advisory and not legally binding. If you want to stay in the EU please email your MP today.

I wanted to leave and still do. The majority of voters agreed. Shall I write to my MP to complain about my democratic rights?

Dollius01 · 27/06/2016 10:03

My MP at the moment is Boris Fucking Johnson. Much as I would love to write to him to represent my views, I don't think he will and I am not sure I could be polite about it anyway.

Muddlingalongalone · 27/06/2016 10:03

maybe we could get some little blue stickers with yellow stars for his sticker chart when he finishes each chapterWink

PortiaCastis · 27/06/2016 10:04

Democracy has spoken

Showmethewaytogohome · 27/06/2016 10:07

Emerald the country has no leadership. There is no plan on how to leave. The economy is tanking. There is no plan - none at all

You may want to still leave but did you vote for this? Really? This is not about democratic rights, or remainers stirring the pot. This is not an intellectual discussion of the rights of Leavers to get their way 'becos I voted to leave'

Look at the turmoil. Without a plan we are up shit creek. Are all the journos now remainers? Where has BOZO given any leadership for your aims in the last 3 days?

You voted for this? Or for the lies the Leave campaign told you- lies they have no way of achieving - oh and actually they don't want to

GloriaGaynor · 27/06/2016 10:08

Some Leave voters appear not to understand how the British democracy they love so much works hmm

We elect our MPs to represent the interests of their constituents. If it's in the interests of their constituents to remain, then that's what they should be fighting for.

Took the words out of my mouth.

Democracy is a system of government with elected representatives. Roughly two thirds (350) of these representatives are pro-Remain.

Will they vote to save the country or favour their constituents? Who knows.

Technically, they are now no longer representative, which is grounds for a general election. And the Tory party as it now is, is not the one the populace voted in at the last election.

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 27/06/2016 10:09

WeekendAway you're welcome, it's a genuine pleasure to post it as often as possible Grin

Showmethewaytogohome · 27/06/2016 10:09

Portia Lies have been spoken. Our country has been played. Democracy is more than a referendum FGS

HisNameWasPrinceAndHeWasFunky · 27/06/2016 10:10

hahaha at all the "writing to your MP is ridiculous" posters :)

Yes lets just sit around and wait for the leavers to put their brilliant plan into action!!

Oh what, there is not Plan? And no leader of the Tories, no PM and probably no leader of the opposition either.

And if they do manage to get it all together, the divorce will consume most political attention for the next fuck knows how many years.

But no, don't communicate with your democratic representative - thats a stupid idea. Don't do anything about it. Just sit back and scratch your arse watching haters run amok everywhere. Now that's a plan.

For Fucks Sake!

Shall I write to my MP to complain about my democratic rights?
You mean your democratic right to have a non-binding advisory referendum?

ApocalypseSlough · 27/06/2016 10:12

Dollius do write to Boris. He's not commited to leaving and the more evidence that his constituents aren't either, the braver he'll be.
