my dad voted leave and I'm really struggling.

Today my dad told me to get a grip and to stop worrying because everything will be fine. I reminded him that:

  1. We have a government in chaos with an opposition in chaos
  1. Jean-Claude junker has indicated that Britain will be presented with very straightened terms once tariffs are negotiated
  1. There are serious conversations happening about the break up of the U.K. With independence for Scotland and a unified Ireland.

I'm really struggling to be around him- his arrogance that this is just a blip and that we have made a great decision makes me feel sick. He berated me for signing that petition and called it silly.

He's my dad and I love him dearly but this fucking referendum has driven a huge wedge between us.

I really, really despair of people like you.

Where do you get off exactly thinking that you have any right to tell another adult how they should vote.

This little list of yours has been taken off some newspaper article...I doubt you have any conception of what any of it means.

Calm the fuck down. Your father - A THINKING ADULT - took part in a democratic process and voted with his concience. How dare you judge him?

Grow up.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 25/06/2016 22:09

MOP you sound like hard work!!! In the words of your dad....calm down and it WILL be fine!

Helmetbymidnight · 25/06/2016 22:09

Well hopefully our Dads are right and we are going to 'take back control' and it will all be fab.

Ha.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 25/06/2016 22:09

OP obviously!!!!

UptownFunk00 · 25/06/2016 22:11

Mrs well that's just messed up and yes, racist.

I'll change my statement to either most people wouldn't or any half decent person wouldn't.

UptownFunk00 · 25/06/2016 22:12

gun that's just vile but not every leave voter is racist.

A lot are ill informed.

ApricotSorbet99 · 25/06/2016 22:13

Grunting.....yes, that person is racist.

That does not logically mean that every other Brexit voter is.

So what the fuck is your point?

And given the hysteria in your post, are you really the best person to be telling others what to do with their anger. You first.

Helmetbymidnight · 25/06/2016 22:13

Oof Mrs Blackthorn, my commiserations.

MrsBlackthorn · 25/06/2016 22:13

Mum says dad had no idea it might actually happen and would have stayed at home if he'd known.

Bit feckin late now, isn't it?

UptownFunk00 · 25/06/2016 22:15

grunt even.

Some just wanted change.
Some felt the EU had out grown itself.
Some thought the EU was corrupt.

Not just racism but of course there are those type.

But one is one too many.

Helmetbymidnight · 25/06/2016 22:15

Gawd. I've seen/heard so many brexiters say that. What were they thinking?

Oh well, apparently, it will all be fine.

MrsBlackthorn · 25/06/2016 22:22

There are reports up and down the country now of foreigners being told to "go home". If nothing else this referendum debate has normalised hatred of foreigners for those who are that way inclined.

And there are lots of people who are suffering the consequences of this decision already, or are concerned they're about to be. Until there is more certainty it's understandable that people are angry and anxious. Telling them to STFU is unhelpful.

callherwillow · 25/06/2016 22:25

If someone has experienced that then I will join the voices stating it is totally unacceptable.

I am as against racism as strongly as I imagine most of you were against the disability cuts.

gunting · 25/06/2016 22:28

I don't for a second think that all people who voted leave are racist. I can see the rationale behind some of the reasons for brexit but I campaigned for remain. For me the negatives were massively outweighed by the positives.

Right now I'm disappointed and I can deal with that. But I'm disgusted and angry that people are being made to feel unwelcome here. Some of these people are my friends and I see some UKIPper on the TV saying we will need to do a 'phased repatriation' of EU migrants. Wtf?!

SchoolNightWine · 25/06/2016 22:29

I'm another who feels so let down by my dad. His reason for voting leave was "I've waited 40 years to get this chance again". I could completely respect his decision if it was based on current issues, but to vote that way because it didn't go his way last time feels incredibly selfish.

BrexitentialCrisis · 25/06/2016 22:32

Apricot- do you know what, I have taken my 'little' list from the newspapers and you are completely right- I absolutely have no concept of what much of it means because nobody does- it's a huge maelstrom of confusion, anger, financial uncertainty and chaos and people like my dad have knowingly chosen for this to happen. Real people are going to lose jobs and money and livelihoods. I'm not going to apologise for feeling anxious about this until people are able to tell me for certain how all this shit can be sorted out and this awful genie put back in the bottle.

HSPC going. Others set to follow. (Less tax revenue - more cuts)

It will all be fine. Thanks guys.

GingerCuddleMonsterThe2nd · 25/06/2016 22:39

Me and DP voted differently, we respect each others opinion Hmm We are both adults and both capable of making a decision.

The earth will continue to turn, the sun will rise every morning and life must now go on.

ExitPursuedByBear · 25/06/2016 22:39

HSPC? Who are they then?

Helmetbymidnight · 25/06/2016 22:40

They changed the B to the P ;)

Ginmakesitallok · 25/06/2016 22:43

I called my mum on Thursday night, and during the conversation asked her if she'd been to vote. She said she hadn't. She'd never not voted before, but didn't understand the eu , so wasn't going to. I asked if she was serious? Yes she was serious, but who should she vote for? Leave?

I said no, vote to remain! Remain! Shouted my aunt in the background. So she did, she went and voted remain.

How shit is that? How shit is it that people are voting over such a big issue, not understanding what they are voting for or against?

How shit is it that we are going to leave the eu on the basis of an ill informed electorate, who voted according to their 'gut'??

Brexit · 25/06/2016 22:45

That's life.

ricketytickety · 25/06/2016 22:47

But your dad didn't vote that way so people would lose their jobs or to be cruel to people.

Just stay off the topic as much as possible. Being a leave voter doesn't make you selfish and being a remainer doesn't make you selfless.

Personally I think leavers were misinformed. But that's not the crime of the century. It's the politicians you should be angry with who spun the bullshit in the first place.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 25/06/2016 22:49

Brexit I think you are being unduly harsh, and everyone else rather ridiculous. Sorry, but you are. Mumsnet has officially lost the plot!!

GirlOutNumbered · 25/06/2016 22:50

My whole family voted leave. I was heartbroken.
Now I'm sick of the remainders forecasting the end of the world.
