To be apppalled by the remain camp attitude

On my FB feed, social media, TV we are being berated for voting leave, we are being called racist, thick, uneducated, stupid, poor, peasants, benefit scroungers...the list goes on. There is even an petition now to have another referendum because obviously the leave camp know absolutely nothing.

Boris Johnson was whisked away by the police when he left his house this morning as protesters were ranting at him, banging on his car. How is this democracy? why does it only run one way? Yet you cheer at this act of aggression.

I would understand if the vote was closer but it was not close, leave won by well over a million votes. Why cant you accept the results and look for a way forward together, why have a "me vs them" attitude.

Some of the comments on here are pretty damn toxic. Screw it can't beat them join them.

You know what? You want me to feel sympathy for your personal situations in relation to EU membership? Fuck You. Where the hell was you when my personal situation and my community was progressively deteriorated by EU membership? Oh yes that's right sat on the sidelines dismissing me and my kind as xenophobic bigotted little englanders...now we're too poor and stupid to know what's best for us and we've destroyed the country because we dared disagree with the self proclaimed intellectuals. A bit of marginalisation for the middle class Islinghton warriors who can't afford their cleaner now? My heart bleeds...welcome to what working class people feel like.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 24/06/2016 22:29

I love my country too (Scotland) I haven't called anyone a racist chav or said I hated anyone.

I don't think you love your country any more than people who voted Remain though, you just sound a bit carried away with poetic rhetoric. Sorry.

Acardwithbigletters · 24/06/2016 22:29

Oh bog off rale I'm working class and I voted remain.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 24/06/2016 22:31

"Community destroyed by EU membership"..more meaningless rhetoric.

Also from working class family.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 24/06/2016 22:32

Sorry but the rants coming out on this thread are indeed examples of people voting Leave for daft reasons.

No hysteria here. Am tired and going to bed

HildurOdegard · 24/06/2016 22:34

I too am in Scotland - and shock, horror, some of us chose out. I live in a country where it's still 'ok' to fly a flag. Poetic rhetoric it might be, I still love my nation.

I spent many years living overseas, have an enormous amount of money tied up in the eu but still I chose to fight for my future.

As someone just mentioned, where were YOU when I was thrown under the bus? I have always considered myself middle class of heritage, education and so forth. If I am now in allegiance with '"lower class' so be it.

Lastgirl I voted for Brexit for similar reasons to your DH's. I have also been verbally abused (by my best friend, today) and told I'm 'ignorant' and 'stupid'. I did not make my decision lightly, but I could not vote for an entity that is undemocratic, lacking in transparency and remote from ordinary people (and, yes, our own Government has many of these attributes, but I am in a better position to do something about this). I looked at variety of resources before voting (including openeurope.org.uk/, the excellent John Harris in the Guardian, many others) and, since I don't have a TV and don't use social media (FB etc), wasn't overly swayed by more extreme views. I have good reason to fear xenophobia and racism (mixed heritage children) and am an academic (with a PhD - though it is perfectly possible I might still be 'stupid' of course). I wavered so much I felt light-headed, but I voted the way I thought best for myself and my country and exercised my democratic right. I do not rejoice in things going 'my way'. I have nothing to celebrate. No doubt I will be abused at work for voting leave, so I'll probably just keep schtum and have to bear the diatribes about dumb, racist Brexiters.

ManonLescaut · 24/06/2016 22:37

I too am in Scotland

In that case why are you wittering about 'believing in sovereignty'? You're only going to have it until the next Scottish referendum.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 24/06/2016 22:39

So funny that the side which won are being far more aggressive than me here.

Night all.

speakergirl · 24/06/2016 22:40

I love how the remain camp think they are so much better than the leave voters. All we've seen on MN today is whining

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 24/06/2016 22:42

Speaker girl all I've seen from you is wee nasty digs. Get over it

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 24/06/2016 22:43

You won, you'd think that would ease the bitterness

Acardwithbigletters · 24/06/2016 22:44

"Whining" no

I'm very upset, yes. As I imagine leave voters would be if it had been remain.

It's not a crime.

speakergirl · 24/06/2016 22:45

by the seems of things fanjo you need to get over it. You lost. Accept it

Acardwithbigletters · 24/06/2016 22:46

I think we're all losers here.

I just don't think we all realise it yet.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 24/06/2016 22:47

I didn't say I hadn't accepted it.

Not sure why you'd not just accept you won and not feel need to make constantly nasty posts though. People are strange sometimes. Do they make you feel good?

ManonLescaut · 24/06/2016 22:48

You lost

You've lost too, you're just too ignorant to know it yet.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 24/06/2016 22:48

Need sleep, life's too short to engage with some bitter winner (wtf) . Really night

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 24/06/2016 22:49

Agree acard and Manon

speakergirl · 24/06/2016 22:49

night

Biscuit
HildurOdegard · 24/06/2016 22:50

I'm sorry that anyone feels the need to spread vitriol when I am only spreading love across our wonderful nation. I'm afraid you can't quash love with hate. Wasn't that your message LAST week?

KidLorneRoll · 24/06/2016 22:50

Christ, there are a lot of bad winners around today.

Yes, you won. Well done. Let us worry about the consequences in peace, people aren't going to suddenly stop being concerned about the ramifications overnight.

The fact is that the leave campaign was fought on half-truths and really nobody from the top down has any idea how it will go.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 24/06/2016 22:50

Oh no a biscuit, how wounding Hmm zzz

speakergirl · 24/06/2016 22:51

Good winners Kid. That wall just got ten feet higher

HildurOdegard · 24/06/2016 22:55

And remain was full of cold, hard faces even though those with eyes see it crumbling anyone. One list of facts spread far and wide on social media demonstrated a list of those opposed and for - neglecting numerous groups and people pro-brexit. What exactly were remain voting FOR?
