I know there will be difficult times ahead.

Staying there was also going to be difficult times afraid.

But I think it's the way forward ! I'm pleased change is on the cards.

Ineedmore, it may have been proposed and agreed in principle, but the glacial pace of the EU (which tends to happen when you have to have the agreement of 28 countries) means that it has still not been auctioned.

It was tacitly agreed in March, it is nearly July and we are still paying VAT on sanitary products.

An independent British government could have implemented it immediately.

MangoMoon · 26/06/2016 08:11

*actioned, not auctioned!

PassTheCremeEggs · 26/06/2016 10:50

The thing I am totally unable to understand is how the leavers can believe that Boris Johnson or Michael Gove can possibly be a better prospect for them at the moment. If the leavers believe these two have their best interests at heart, or that either of them have any desire to pump money into public services, they are seriously misguided. Even if a general election is called, with no credible opposition with the Labour Party in crisis itself, the right of the Conservative party is now on a ticket to forge ahead. Don't forget the EU was responsible for a number of protections for workers - unlikely these will be revoked, but the risk is still there - the protection will be gone.

GoodLoveShinesBrightly · 26/06/2016 11:03

Nigel Farage has just said there will be private healthcare in 10 years www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/nigel-farage-nhs-might-have-to-be-replaced-by-private-health-insurance-9988904.html

Is this what you voted for? Handing the country on a plate to the ultra right?

Surferjet · 26/06/2016 11:04

This is a long term decision, PassTheCremeEggs - I voted out for the future of my dc & their dc. Boris will not be PM in 30 years time, ( if he's ever PM at all? ) this was a vote for our long term future, not just for the next four years.
And as for workers rights? They'll still be there.

GoodLoveShinesBrightly · 26/06/2016 11:10

What on earth makes you think workers rights will be protected by a right wing government? They have already said one of the first bits of "red tape" they will remove is the pesky workers rights (working time directive and the like). Who wanted rid of the trade unions (I'm not sure if you realise that a trade union is to protect workers rights), the right or the left?
Seriously? The future of our country? What does that even mean? Sovereignty (we are sovereign even within the EU) what fucking good is that if our economy tanks and we can't trade with anyone?
You're all living in cloud cuckoo land.

Surferjet · 26/06/2016 11:11

That was always a possibility anyway GoodLoveShinesBrightly EU or not.

& Nigel Farage will never be PM or anywhere near it ( he is not 'ultra' right either btw )
& quite honestly, seeing the reaction from the fascist left in the last few days, they make Nigel Farage look like Mr Tumble.

Surferjet · 26/06/2016 11:13

Why are you assuming the right will have power forever? Labour could be back in by 2017!
Stop being hysterical. Please.

GoodLoveShinesBrightly · 26/06/2016 11:18

I'm not hysterical. It is not hysterical to point out that without the EU as a brake there is nothing to stop the Tories (and the right wing of the Tories is in the ascendancy now) removing workers rights, in fact they have said they will do so. There is also not a lot to stop them from further dismantling the NHS.
I still haven't heard what the positives of Brexit are, past woolly statements like take back control, sovereignty, etc which don't stand up to scrutiny at all by experts in the field. But then I suppose who needs experts? We can just wave the flag and all will be well.
Seriously can someone explain why Brexit is good and actually back it up with some hard indisputable FACTS? Or did Britain basically just leap into the dark?

MangoMoon · 26/06/2016 11:25

Good, there are literally hundreds of threads where you can go and spout all this.

There are literally hundreds of posts where people have asked the exact same questions you are asking now - although most are rhetorical to be honest, so I am confused as to what you hope to get out of these posts.

Why are you on a thread where perfectly nice, reasonable people who just happened to vote the opposite to you are trying to look forward to what they had belief in?

Pendu · 26/06/2016 11:34

Mooingcow - bang on Smile

Surferjet · 26/06/2016 11:35

Widely circulated on social media, but just incase you haven't seen it GoodLoveShinesBrightly -
why can't we be the same?

Seewhathappens · 26/06/2016 12:05

That info about Switzerland is completely incorrect surfer

Surferjet · 26/06/2016 12:17

It's correct in principle though isn't it.
Have Switzerland suffered by not being in the EU? Are they destitute? Are they all running around screaming in panic? Have they disappeared into some black hole?
Do other countries not recognise them & see them as a joke?

Come on.

BertrandRussell · 26/06/2016 12:19

I missed the bit where Switzerland came out of the EU after 40 years. When did that happen?

GhostofFrankGrimes · 26/06/2016 12:24

so people are happy to have private healthcare in ten tears because it will secure their childrens future? WTF?

Surferjet · 26/06/2016 12:27

We'll have a few years of uncertainty ( probably lees ) as we going through the transition, but then we'll be stronger than ever. It's a message of optimism BertrandRussell

BertrandRussell · 26/06/2016 12:29

How are you feeling about your statement that you have no idea how Brexit is going to happen but you trust our leaders, surfer jet?

MangoMoon · 26/06/2016 12:35

Oh hi Bertrand!

I didn't expect to see you on a 'celebrate the Brexit thread', being as how you called us all insane & stupid last week.

Surferjet · 26/06/2016 12:37

I stil trust them.
& tbh, I'm not sure why you expect me to know exactly how the process will work? Am I supposed to? when I put my cross in the box on Thursday I wasn't then bundled in to a waiting car to thrash out the brexit deal.
I'm just one of the ordinary millions who voted out.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 26/06/2016 12:38

even a few years of uncertainty would have dire consequences for tens of thousands of workers, businesses and home owners.

BertrandRussell · 26/06/2016 12:38

Didn't, actually! How lovely to have such a vivid imagination!

BertrandRussell · 26/06/2016 12:40

"I stil trust them"

Who do you trust?

MangoMoon · 26/06/2016 12:44

It is lovely to have imagination, yes!

In fact, it's my ability to look outward rather than inward and to have the imagination to look beyond fear and rhetoric that spurred me to envisage a better future outwith the EU.

Namehanger · 26/06/2016 12:47

If you are making such a HUGE decision wouldn't you want to understand the potential downsides?

I am not calling Brexiters stupid or racist but potentially uneducated, there is a difference. 'Experts', highly educated who research and deal in trade etc.. said leaving was a bad idea.

Why would you trust Boris, sacked twice as a journalist for making things up, Gove another ex journalist who tanked the education system and Farage, sorry he is racist ??

Governments have limited ability to do wrong or right, most of what they do can be reversed. This cannot be, so I am sorry if bleat on but a referendum should be the start of a conversation not the end.
