My kids are furious and incredulous. One has just left university with a good engineering degree and one is looking for a construction industry apprenticeship. There were already fewer jobs on offer before the vote, God knows what will happen now.
The engineer is thinking Canada although he had an interview in Scotland last week. The youngest is thinking New Zealand as soon has he can get qualified.
The statistics on how different ages voted are staggering.

Sirona · 24/06/2016 12:51

ThunderWing as one NI person, I'm with you.

LaundryFairy · 24/06/2016 12:54

I moved to the UK from Canada 22 years ago. Lots of people asked me why I would leave such a great country, and I always told them that one of the things I loved about the UK was how it felt more connected (politically and culturally) to the rest of the world - much more so than Canada (who has to live with the behemoth that is the US next door).

The U.K. a always seemed to me to be able to have the best of both worlds - to be a part of Europe, yet maintain its own clear separate identity. We could be in the Eurovision Song Contest, and at the same time, take great joy in mocking the absurdity of it!

I now feel like my vision of this country that I love and have become a citizen of has been damaged forever. It also makes me wonder if the UK has changed so much since I came here, or if I never really understood it properly. Maybe I was living in my own bubble of friends and colleagues who shared my views.

Either way, I find myself wondering about my future here now, and whether we will need to make our home somewhere else.

SiencynArsecandle · 24/06/2016 13:08

Cannot believe Wales voted out - we receive £500m of EU funds every year.

As a stay at home carer for a disabled husband, fuck knows what this means for us now, but I bet any money it will be us and our kind who will bear the brunt of the cuts that will surely happen. Gutted as my DC will now all leave and move out of this God forsaken country and who can blame them.

Thanks to all the racist, xenophobic bigots who voted for this

SchnitzelvonKrummsverylowtum · 24/06/2016 13:09

I'm Welsh, living in South Wales, and have always been proud to,be Welsh, until today. The vast majority of my family and friends voted remain, and are now terrified of what the future holds. The handful of leave voters I know believed all the rubbish spouted about the NHS and immigration. I've never considered emigrating before, but am now seriously thinking that the UK might not be the best place to stay for my son's future.

ThomasRichard · 24/06/2016 13:12

Yes, very upset here. I work for a major multinational and the office this morning was stunned. An announcement's gone out over the intranet saying that the UK is still a major customer, we have 1000 employees here, blah blah, but lots of people are worried for their jobs.

I can't bear hearing Nigel Farage's smuggery about a 'victory for decent people'. No, you utter muppet, ordinary, decent people are going to be hit again and again with the effects of this complete stupidity you have promoted.

I'm also sick of seeing Leave voters on Facebook who regularly share crap from Britain First getting uptight about Leavers being called racist and xenophobic Hmm

DancingDinosaur · 24/06/2016 13:12

Its a very sad day. It really is.

todayitstarts · 24/06/2016 13:26

Edward Snowden on twitter:

"No matter the outcome, #Brexit polls demonstrate how quickly half of any population can be convinced to vote against itself. Quite a lesson."

booboobeedoo · 24/06/2016 13:27

Gutted, confounded and FUCKING FURIOUS. Angry

My kids are devastated and I am putting on a brave and reassuring face for them.

The fuckwits who voted for this will be those most affected. Dickheads.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 24/06/2016 13:28

Just wathing them on TV saying how this will be great for jobs and housing.

Yeah right.

todayitstarts · 24/06/2016 13:39

Fuck I'm so fucking angry. I will be actively campaigning for Scottish independence. Starting today.

Cameron did this referendum to placate the right wingers in his party. To save his premiership. He fucked that one up, And fucked the rest of us too.

Remainers - come to Scotland and join us

ExtraordinarilyIndecent · 24/06/2016 13:41

Today think I'll be taking you up on that offer. No future for me here in Little England

SiencynArsecandle · 24/06/2016 13:48

Today Already looking into it!

BumbleNova · 24/06/2016 13:52

today - I'm in, I really like scotland. my gran was born in Edinburgh so I hope that helps?

BumbleNova · 24/06/2016 13:52

I've not quite got an Irish for a passport, my mum does though which is another option.

ohdogoaway · 24/06/2016 13:54

Trying to explain why I was crying to DD age 8 : I said that we had been friends with other countries in a big friendship club and now half of us didn't want to be the club any more, but half of us were very sad about it. I just don't understand Labour voters turned Ukippers. Are they happy to vote in Tory governments for the next few decades? I always liked Corbyn but he has been useless during this campaign. Labour lost its voice . Consequently for many people like me, Leave voters appear to be a xenophobic block, with any voices who voted leave for other more palatable reasons, drowned out or not getting their message across. This result would have been more palatable if there were a few people with integrity on the Leave side . It would create less fear in the remain camp that they are all a bunch of racist wankers

I am so gutted SadAngrySad

NotCitrus · 24/06/2016 13:57

Gutted. Mostly because it shows how the Murdoch-dominated press is horrendously biased and how easy it is to get away with pushing lies and have the public believe them.

So many people have just gone "Jobs down. Immigrants up. Must be immigrants taking the jobs", followed by assuming "no EU = none of said immigrants, problem solved". How can we influence such simplistic thinking?

imwithspud · 24/06/2016 14:03

Just had the local news on, naturally the referendum was the main topic of conversation.

They talked to two leave voters from one area in my region and asked them why they voted leave, both stated that their main reason for leaving the EU was due to immigration because apparently they come over here and get 4 bed houses, take all our benefits and all our jobs and get everything handed to them on a plate right off the bat (this was actually said in so many words) one woman had 6 children of her own which she couldn't find big enough housing for and obviously it's all the immigrants fault. I couldn't help but think how incredibly misguided she was, and how scary it is that people think leaving the eu will solve this problem.

Now I don't believe everyone who voted leave voted for 'immigration' reasons but a fair few of them did, it's plane to see on here, on social media and even on the news. Makes me really sad. What kind of message are we sending to the rest of the world?

imwithspud · 24/06/2016 14:04

*plain to see

Pangurban1 · 24/06/2016 14:13

imwith, I think it was lost on the hobgoblin of immigration.

I think the referendum was lost rather than won, iykwim. Even on the thing in Wembley. James Dyson mentioned as a brexiter in the same breath of wages rising if out. It was on mums net weeks ago how Dyson left Swindon because of high wages for workers and relocated his manufacturing in Malaysia. I know he has research and engineering here, but no manufacturing. Lots of claims not quashed by remain.

And Corbyn. What can a body say about his absence.

Thunderwing · 24/06/2016 14:19

A quote from a wonderful lady from Ireland on the BBC page perfectly sums up my feelings wish I'd have thought to say this first-

"For goodness sake, when a referendum outcome is 48.1% remain, 51.9% leave, then I'd say that you have an undecided nation.

"The referendum is not legally binding. The UK government does not have to act on the outcome of this referendum.

"I would say that the democratic way to look at the results is that there needs to be more debate, more real information, more time spent and more opinions taken.

"Just because of that tiny margin, I don't think you can call the UK decided on the matter."

Pangurban1 · 24/06/2016 14:19

And if immigration is the issue, what reason do the neighbouring EU countries have to not allow anyone through to the UK now. If you have a passport or ticket, onto the ferry you go. Let the UK sort it out their side. Customs for transport and trucks should be fun. Will border still be at Calais?

SinisterBumFacedCat · 24/06/2016 14:19

I'm devasted. I feel like I don't belong in this country anymore. Everything about this result is at odds with my moral code.

I've been through so many Tory elections and been disappointed and disheartened, but with this I'm disgusted and angry.

kirinm · 24/06/2016 14:19

Jobs are already being moved out of the U.K. Project Fear = project reality.
